Best of both!
Pros: Great Value, Adjustable, Versatile
"I fitted these to my Specialized Rockhopper for the Nokia Scottish Coast2Coast challenge, and they were excellent for both the road and trail sections.
I wanted the benefits of clippy pedals for training and occasional technical trail riding but as I also use the bike for family cycling, going to the park etc I was keen to avoid the faff of frequent changes from clip pedals to flats.
These definitely fit the bill, and although you have to develop the knack of flipping them if they're 'upside down' when you try to clip in, that seems a small price to pay for the flexibility of shoe choice.
Release tension is easy to adjust, and even clagged up with Scottish mud, they were fine to clip in/out of. Would definitely recomend if you're looking for an all round pedal."

A very good buy
Pros: Great Value, Adjustable, confidence building
"My new road bike came with full works cleats - all a bit too much to get used to for a relatively novice rider like me and I just didn't have the knack ! . A friend suggested these as a half - way house until I became more experienced and they're just the job.
I can pedal with one foot in and one foot out when I'm in heavy traffic or just not feeling sure - I've only done about 100 miles so far but the confidence is gathering . It's been said that I'll be back to the full works cleats soon but I'm not so sure - with these I don't always need the cycling shoes!"

Simple and adaptable
Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Versatile
"Joint 1st along with Cane Creek Thudbuster as best bit of kit I've bought. Gives great great flexibility. I now have a 29'er kitted out for any and every jaunt I want to make. Whether a charge through the woods, a long day in the saddle or a quick charge down the "offy"............
Even when wearing my cleats I now find I slip my left foot out when on trickier single track and don't really lose any momentum and actually makes you feel a bit more confident. I reckon unless you are an out and out racer these are brilliant. Nice wide platform for just a pair of trainers and nice and easy clip in when in cleats.
Toppertastic.

Common Sense Pedals
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"I purchased these pedals after having several falls using traditional type clip in pedals, these are absolutely brilliant as a way of keeping you safe whilst you try the clip in side until you are confident, but keeps the ordinary side if you are just popping out to the shops. They are extremely well engineered and have a precision feel about them. They are must for anyone who needs a good pedal but also being able to clip in an go with the pack. I only ride 20 miles a day and the weight issue that I have heard about is not a major problem for me. For those who are sceptical just give them a try and you will be amazed how good they are."

Could have been excellent
Pros: dual use
Cons: Low Quality, Wears Out Easily
"The idea is brilliant: A pedal you can use with both cleats, and ordinary shoes. Just what I need: cleats to cycle into work, and ordinary shoes moving across our facilities.
I have had a few of these--all suffer from the same problem: very annoying "cracks". I guess the issue is the bearings. They can be replaced in principle, with the right tool (unavailable), but you may need a microscope an tweezers to do the job...
I am a strong cyclists, and may just have pushed these to hard; might try a more expensive alternative."

Compromise is not always best
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: heavy
"These pedals do what is expected of them, and are very useful if you don't always want to wear SPD shoes. However, they're not as easy to clip into as standard SPDs and as the pedal has to be the right way up they require looking down which is not always convenient."

Great
Pros: Great Value, Good Fit
"Was a little nervous about switching to clips on the MTB but have to say these are brilliant. Compared to the clips on my road bike these just pop in and out as and when needed, without the hassle of twisting.
And as for riding with ordinary trainers they are fine.
Only recommendation is if you are going to use the reflectors put them on before you attach the pedals!!

Good combination pedal but with a flaw
Pros: Durable, Rugged
Cons: Bulky
"The pedal itself is good, the clips work and I have been using mine for almost a year. I use them with the cleat for commuting and at the weekends for shorter trips without.
The only problem that the weight of the pedal and the design of the flat side means it is really painful when they hit your legs. This has happened to me a couple of times when I failed to engage the clip properly and my shoe slipped on the pedal. On one of these occasions the pedal caused quite a deep gouge.
For my next pedals I will therefore be trying a lighter model and avoided the heavy metal design.."

great pedal
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Adjustable, Versatile, Good Fit
"This is the first SPD pedal I bought and ever used. I wasn't to sure about making the change from nothing at all to cleats pedals, but following more experienced cyclers advice I decided to go for it. These pedals are very well built and engineered. I like the fact that you can use them with normal shoes on the other side, which doesn't affect the functionality of the cleat system at all. Definitely recommended if you are a first time user and have only one bicycle to experiment with."

Very good
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Rugged, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Bulky
"I've been using these on my commute and for short trips around town for about year now and they're great. They've been knocked about and still look pretty new. The flexibility of being clipped in for the 8 miles to work or being able to jump on the flat side to go and pick up some milk is excellent. Action is very smooth (don't forget to put some grease on the thread when you put them in) and they clip in quickly and easily. They tend to stay put as they rotate (unlike Look pedals which are designed to rotate to keep the clip side facing backwards) so when you stop and unclip a shoe, you quickly get used to putting the flat side up on that side so that when you push off with the other foot, it brings the clip round to the top as it comes up and you can quickly clip in again. Works well and eliminates the main concern with dual-surface pedals."

Shimano Combo Pedal Great
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Adjustable
Cons: tension adjustment access fiddly.
"What can I say, I am now 65 and not a serious bike rider any more, but I still like to feel attached to the bike on longer rides and thes fit the bill perfectly. Quick trip to local shops then on with the trainers and use the flat side of the pedals, no clunking of metal on shop floors like some demented tap dancer. Longer rides on with the riding shoes and confident that there will be no sliding feet off the pedals on hills etc.
They are well made and the adjusment is easy but perhaps the design should have had a cut out on the rear pedal reflector to enable allen key access to the tension adjustment screw.
That is the only minor niggle but for me ideal.

ideal for mixed use
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable
"The M324's are my first tentative dip into the world of clip-in pedals. My cycling amounts to a mixture of town/city commuting use in heavy traffic and longer pleasure runs when I get the chance. These pedals are ideal for both - especially for nervous newbies like myself as I have the choice of whether to clip in or not. In practice after a bit of initial groping around they are very easy to get in and out of, adjusting the spring tension is straightforward, although you need to remove the rear reflector (not supplied) to get access.
From my point of view the M324's have been a revelation, my pedalling efficiency and overall comfort levels have increased more so than one would have expected by making what is a relatively minor equipment change; so all in all extremely happy with this purchase."

A Good Long Haul Pedal
Pros: Comfortable, Rugged, Adjustable, Versatile
Cons: heavy
"I have used these for about two years on my touring bike, with all-direction-release cleats. I purchased them originally because I anticipated doing a fair bit of biking around towns with street shoes, and they've been great for that. We live on the coast so the steel, which is heavy, also gets rusty. You need to take care that if you want to adjust tension, your allan key fits in the limited space; the one one my toolset doesn't. They are easier to use than I thought would be the case."

Good Purchase
Pros: Attractive, High Quality, Adjustable, Good Fit
"This purchase represents my first move away from using toe clips. I found this move surprisingly easy. Suitable cleats (SM-SH56) come with the pedal and these are ideal for newbies since one can disconnect by moving the heel inwards as well as outwards. The pedal's tension on the cleat can be adjusted with a hex key and there is a visual indication of this tension so it is possible to match the tension both pedals.
The weight of the pedals is about the same as the cheaper pedals and toe clips I replaced. These pedals have several advantages over toe clipped pedals. They look much neater and are easier to use. It is possible to unclip when approaching a junction rather than waiting to come to a halt. Also when setting off in traffic it is possible to move effectively without clipping in. The pedals appear to be well engineered.

great entry-level clip on pedals
Pros: Adjustable, Versatile
Cons: Bulky
"These are my first clip on pedals (on my mountain bike i ride every day). I like the flexibility of the two sided pedal - very convenient during my commute, part of which is over a fire trail, and part of which is on streets where i have to stop and start frequently, so it's easier to be unclipped on those.
It was easy to get shoes and cleats."

Best of both worlds
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality
"I've been running these pedals for quite a while now, on my regular commute and longer road rides, switching them to new bikes as I've upgraded, and expect they'll keep running forever.
Having one side as a flat pedal they're a great way to test the waters if it's your first attempt at clip-ins (as it was for me). If you miss the clip, you can just keep pedaling with the flat side. Also ideal if you sometimes commute in normal shoes.
I can attest that these things are mighty tough too, having clipped a kerb with them at speed - the reflector was smashed off, but no harm to the pedal apart from minor scratches."
