Roof Box Bike Safe Bike Box

The removable aluminium anti-shock frame holds the frame and wheels steady to prevent friction or compression damage. There is plenty of additional interior padding to protect your bike, minimum disassembly is required - only the wheels need to be removed. There is an anti compression disk included to reinforce the centre of the case. The 4 locks are flush fitting and it has 3 strengthened hinges. It is also designed for stacking, so particularly suitable for team use. Additional features on the case are 4 lifting handles, one folding pulling handle, which makes it easy to move around. It's suitable for all frame sizes, including full suspension mountain bikes. (Leave out the anti-shock frame and there's even room for downhill bikes!) There's plenty of room to stow other gear too.

Excellent bike box
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"I purchased this box after a disappointing experience with a DHB box.
This one does exactly what it claims. It holds the bike secure with its internal frame system and has plenty of room for the bike, wheels and spares. Construction is good with four locking clasps. The only downside is the size but BA took it for free and never quibbled. Bike arrived in Tuscany safe and sound, unlike one or two others who used soft bags/cardboard boxes. I added a few luggage straps around my box as there are indentations in the case to allow this just for extra security.
The box has four wheels and a pulling handle. Its easy to wheel it around the airport.
Lastly, I can fit two of these boxes in the back of a Mercedes A class so its not too big!"

Large Bike Box
Pros: Durable, Rugged, High Quality, Versatile
"I bought this bike box specifically to accommodate a full suspension mountain bike with a minimum of disassembly. I have tried soft bags before to transport mountain bikes and generally the bikes seem to have had a hard time from the airport ground handling personnel and in the aircraft hold. My current mountain bike has a carbon frame and I was very concerned about the likely damage. I have transported road bikes in hard cases and they have arrived completely undamaged.
This is a large box and my mountain bike went in very easily. It just needed the pedals and wheels off and the handle bars strapped to the forks. The wheels went into the bags provided. I also took off the derailleur but then I am cautious, it probably isn't necessary. As an extra precaution, I separated everything by layers of bubble wrap.
The box comes with a metal frame to hold the bike but I didn't use that. It didn't seem necessary and added a considerable amount to weight to an already heavy box.
The box is robust and survived the journey to/from Spain and a week on a trailer with no damage. The bike was completely unmarked.
The box weighs about 14 kgs without the frame (not bad for a big box) but this needs to be bourn in mind because it would be easy to exceed the airline baggage limit. It just, but only just, fitted through the outsized baggage gauge on the conveyor belt.
All in all I am very happy with this bike box, it did the job and stood up to the airport handling with no problems. It looks like it will last for many more journeys.

Its one big box
Pros: huge capacity, reasonably solid
Cons: the 15% off deal started the day after i bought it
"Its always difficult to judge what you will receive based on a small image and a few dimensions but the reviews of others helped me select this box.
First impressions are that it is BIG. It is also a tad heavier than spec'd - even without the aluminium mounting frame - that I won't use - it comes in at 14.1kg on my scales.
It looks reasonably strong but would damage if abused. Locks look flimsy - I will wrap two luggage straps around it for extra security. Wheels are ok but Schipol baggage handlers collect these sorts of things so lets see how long they last. I will pack bubble wrap around the bike to plump up the box.
The great news is that my Cannondale RZ140 fits. And I don't even need to remove the bars or seat post - just pop out the wheels and pedals. Add in a helmet, some tools, tubes and water bottle / bladder and she tips the scales at 30kg. That's a bag of sugar under the weight limit on Delta for my trip to Moab and the linear dimensions are a good few inches below their maximum too. However - maybe worth checking the bag size limits on your most likley air routes before you buy it as even though bike bags cost on airlines nowadays, they are far cheaper than paying for 'outsize bags' which is what you'll cop for if the bag exceeds their max weights and dims.
And - make sure it fits in your car this end and your hire car the other end.
Let's see how it survives the flight to Utah and plane change in Atlanta.....

Pros: Rugged
Cons: Not Enough Features, Bulky, Limited Color Choices
"the jig that comes with this case only supports the base of the bike not the top, used to pillowes to stop top of bike moving around.there are no internal links for straps.with just my hardtail in the box it wieghed in at 29kg,i payed moor for exess bagage than i did for the flight.for a long trip away its worth having your own bike with you,but short trips less than one mounth i would not bother."

Fits a treat
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"Slips into the Audi A6 estate so easily and very handy to move around at the airport. Sturdy box coupled with additional foam or bubble wrap make this a great way of transporting and keeping the bike safe. Can fit in all of my bikes from road machine to downhill bike comfortably (but not all at once of course!)."

Large but poor locks
Pros: Great Value
Cons: Bulky, Low Quality, Poor Fit, difficult to close locks
"This is one of the biffest boxes so there is plenty of room and the bike is well protected using the internal frame but the locks are just rubbish, difficult to close and don't feel secure. Also I had trouble coming back from lanzeroti as the box was to big to fit even into the oversize x ray so i had to empty the whole box...doing battle with the locks again. So good price plenty of romm but will drive you mad at the airport"

Easy packing!
Pros: Great Value, Adjustable, Good Fit, easy packing
Cons: Unattractive, Bulky
"The best thing about this box is that it requires minimum disassembling of the bike - only need to take the wheels off. There is a frame inside that holds the bike firmly in place & it's also padded so the bike is definitely safe in there, and there's still enough space in the box for things like shoes, helmet etc.
The negative points are:
- the size: probably the largest bike box you can get, might be tricky for transport if you have a small car
- the wheels are fixed ie you can't roll it sideways - not sure other bike boxes do this but it makes the box a little difficult to navigate around especially as it's so large
- not sure about the quality - I don't really trust the locks, they are sometimes hard to open and sometimes hard to close - I havent had problems so far but wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly open if the box gets thrown around by airport luggage handlers.. if you're worried thoguh you can simply put some tape around the box or a belt
Overall I'd recommend it though, it's solid and safe and saves you some time and effort when packing & unpacking vs other boxes.
Expect a lot of people to comment on what a huge suitcase you have though....

Big and solid
Pros: Durable, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive, Bulky
"It does exactly what it claims to. It is good to be able to put a bike in without taking it to pieces. It is BIG though, and a lot of airlines will not take it or charge you a fortune"

Bit disappointed
Pros: like the frame inside thing
Cons: Poor Quality, Expensive, Bulky, flimsy
"Lets first get over the main point. My bike has never been damaged in transit, so I suppose this box does its job! Sadly the box is pretty flimsy. After 2 plane trips, I have 4 broken wheels, and a smashed corner! I know its the fault of the baggage handlers but you have to ask the question, arent these things supposed to be built to be throw about alittle. It sort of gives the game away when it arrived from the supplier with spare set of bolt on wheels! I would personally avoid this box, in favour of a cheaper alternative."

Not a bad box
"Definitely a large box with plenty of space. Seems to support and protect my bike well. Case would definitely benefit from better latches though. I don't trust them myself and put two large straps around the box to secure it shut. Handle feels like it will break off any time now... but it hasn't yet. Case came with two spare wheels. It's a bit heavy though. You will never make it onto a plane within the free 23kg limit. If you ONLY put a bike in it, there is no problem staying under the max 32kg limit... but don't count on packing in much extra gear."

Pros: Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: Bulky
"Does what it says - its massive. I bought it because I didn't want the hassle of taking handlebars off or finding my large frame (60cm) bike didn't fit...and was able to do exactly that. Not a great deal of extra space so not sure it would take a bigger bike (?). Only reservation is that one of the wheels pushing against the side which creates a possble weak point, but the case survived a couple of plane journeys unscathed. Material looks like it may be brittle and being so big I could imagine it cracking - though as I say, I may be being unfair given it has done the job perfectly so far.....
Flew with it on BA - no issues with its size or weight."

Ok but....
Pros: Good Fit
Cons: Poor Quality, Low Quality
"it's a funny thing about bike boxes. if you spend a bit of time reading feedback on the various boxes out there you realise that build quality is a real issue across the different manufacturers. Most people who use these for the occasional trip have no problem, but it is those that use it repeatedly who will run into issues with the latches and/or wheels. If these were mainstream consumer products you would expect a vast improvement on build quality. So am I expecting too much? I think if you're going to spend north of a £100 you should get something that is durable. Amazingly, the high end boxes at £500+ still get people writing in "great box but problem with wheels and latches".
There has got to be a business opportunity here for someone to bring a product to market with a better build quality..."

Big but...
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Bulky
"Like other reviewers, you are a bit overwhelmed by the size of this case. It's massive. However, the benefit of this is that you don't have to take your bike completely to pieces to fit it in. Wheels off, seat down a bit (I'm 6'3" on a 58 frame), one pedal off (and I'm not sure I need to even do that), place it into the metal frame, close the case, done. It's very well made, easy to move about, comes with spares and looks like it will take a good beating without ruining the contents.
I've seen my friends squash bikes into smaller DHB cases and end up with bent wheels, non of that with this case. It also comes with a brace that can be placed in the centre so that you can stack the cases without them being crushed.
A couple of points however
- Put some rubber around the points where the frame clips into the frame so you don't scratch it.
- If you have wheelbags, place them over the wheels when they're in place to add some useful cushioning
- Also, although you're left with loads of free space, be mindful of the weight of the case + bike as you'll soon get to the 32kg limit of most airlines.

A Safe Box but find extra strapping
Pros: Durable, large size
Cons: Bulky, poor latches
"This is a huge box that will accommodate any size bike, took my Cannondale 60" mtb frame without problems. The box itself is very durable (and comes with an anti-shock frame to secure your bike to, preventing movement inside the box). However the latches on the sides of the box are flimsy and, whilst they held up to 4 plane journeys, gave me constant worry about whether the box would open in transit. If you can find a couple of sturdy straps to go around the box, then you should be very comfortable taking your pride and joy anywhere without worry of damage.
The box is of course big and doesn't fit in all cars - and is heavy without a bike inside, so be careful with weight allowances on air travel.

Bike Box Improvements
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, Lightweight
Cons: Bulky, need a better pull handle
"It does the job well and my precious steed returned from Italy unscathed. Simple improvements would make this a great product. The wheel clamps on the frame need nylon bushes between the spacers to stop scratching of the forks, the locks need to be better quality and the handle on the front will last at best 2 trips! Casing itself is excellent and padding is good."

Sturdy, cheap, and very spacious
Pros: Durable, Great Value
"This is the largest bike box on the market. It will easily fit any road or mountain bike with plenty of room to spare for padding, clothing, and accessories. It also comes with a frame to hold the bike in position whilst in transit.
The only significant problem is that the ground clearance of the wheels isn't high enough. There is no problem on perfectly flat polished surfaces like those found at airports but on streets and footpaths the underside of the box often touches the ground.
Overall it's an excellent box, especially for bikes with integrated seat posts since there is plenty of room to accommodate all frame sizes."

Exactly what it says on the tin!
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: Bulky
"Great Product, solidly made. Feels bullet proof.
Certainly felt confident about the bike's safe arrival once it was packed away. What I like is that you don't have to remove the handlebars from the bike. The wheels on the corners make it great for pushing through the Airport
Only issue is the sheer size of the item. Its enormous! It will not fit in a standad car. If you don't have a roof rack -you need a people carrier that you can remove the seats from or or a van to transport the item.
