Excellent value, complete peace of mind
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"This is an excellent box for the money, if you aren't up for spending £300+ on one of the BBAlan/Scion boxes then I would really recommend this.
The box is big enough to easily accommodate any road bike (you may need to do more dismantling if you have an integrated seat post you can't remove/lower) - my bike fitted in just removing the wheels and turning the bars. There was enough extra room for me to put my helmet, shoes and a load of other bits and pieces in the box too.
I'm sure other reviewers have mentioned the catches can be a little fiddly to align so that you can close them but once you have the hang of it it really isn't an issue. It is lighter weight than other boxes which is a major plus given how awkward airlines are becoming with baggage.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking to take their bike abroad."

Great quality box for the money
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Rugged, High Quality, looks great when you've stuck custom decals on
Cons: on the heavy side
"I bought this for a group trip via easyjet to the Pyrennees. Only used once so far but really pleased with it - in comparison to the other guy's boxes it was much more compact and portable. The tapered shape makes a big difference. Very rigid shell and a decent German well built feel to it.
It is quite heavy so watch out for sports weight restrictions. My only other gripe is the handle doesn't feel that strong and was flexing a bit - not sure how long that will last so planning to buy a very expensive carbon bike to put less stress on the box :-)"

Great bike box
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Rugged
"As previously noted other people this box is great value for money especially when i got it with 20% off.
I have just used it for the first time on a trip to Lanzarote.
The bike fits easily, the wheek bags are great also. The locks take a little bit of lining up but no issue really.
Watch the weight of the box, it must be 12.5kg so be aware of the weight limits by your airline.
On arrival in Lanzarote on of the corners had a slight dent where it had been mis handled but is pushed back out and no damaged done.
There are better boxes out there but they are 2 -3 times the price and this does the job just as well !!!!

Top quality compact hard case

Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile, Good Fit
"I bought a pair of these to replace a couple of more basic hard cases bought about 10 years ago.
They are well made. The plastic is not brittle, the edges are valanced (aluminium capping), the wheels are a decent size and easily replaced and spares are included. The case is even stable when stood on it's wheels (unlike some others I've used). The locks are a little fiddly but just require careful alignment as the case is closed. There interior is foam lined and has a couple of straps to stop the frame sliding about. Also included are several braces to fit between the dropouts when the wheels are removed and so prevent the frame being deformed, and also an excellent plastic strut to brace across the middle of the case to prevent the contents being crushed. Finally, a pair of good quality padded wheel bags are also included, although I chose not to use mine preferring instead to add some additional padding to the frame with foam pipe insulation tubes. I also added a webbing roof-rack type of strap around the middle of the case just for a belt and braces approach.
One of the key selling points for me was the compact size of the case, and this helps keep the weight down to about 10kg. I think it's the only one that will fit in the boot of an estate car with the rear seats still up. Inspite of the compact size, and contrary to the manufacturer's advice, it possible to fit (cross-country) full-suspension bikes in. I managed to fit a small Giant Anthem X and an 18.75" Merlin Works 4.0 in our cases. The trick is to effectively shorten the wheel base by rotating the forks 180 degrees and also remove the front brake calliper. Obviously one also has to remove the wheels, handlebar, rear derailleur and pedals. The Merlin also needed the chain set removed. Neither bike required the saddle lowering.
Our bikes survived a recent trip to Austria unscathed, although the boxes have a few scratches and scrapes, but that's what they're thee for.
I don't think there's a better box an the market at this price."

good value
"not tested yet but at <£200 on sale it seems better value that the BBA which I have used (hired) before. plastic not as hard as BBA, but thsi box comes with a centre spacer to prevent crushing. no internal straps to hold bike in one place so will need to carefully pad it to prevent bike moving in transit. if BBA wasnt so expensive wodul have gone with one of them but think this is much better value for money"

Very practical and effective
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Rugged, High Quality
Cons: tricky catches
"Box is well-made with clear instructions for use and I was able to fit my Roubaix into it relatively easily. Only slight irritation is that the catches are a little tricky to engage. However it won't fit into the boot of even a big saloon taxi (for example Mercedes E Class). Solid and secure protection for your bike."

Bike box
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Unattractive, Bulky, Limited Color Choices
"I bought this box for my first spring training trip to Spain, largely because of the weight and robustness of a plastic box over bags. On the whole i would say that i am satisfied with the performance of the box and happy with the quality, but let down by the weight. Don't fooled with the advertised weight of 9.5kg's, it's not! It's more like 13.5kg's which can make your bike and box exceed the 20kg's of most budget airlines. Make sure you get a friendly check-in staff member so they don't sting you for excess luggage!"

Roof Box Touring Box Bike Box
Posted June 27, 2011
Hi, I refer to your comment of the above, did you really buy this shape ot did you actually but the square one. in case of the latter is is definitely 13.5kg, but the other one is not. i have checked the dealers website and its 9.5kg. It would be misleading if what yyou said is true. i am thinking of buying one and the whole purpose is to hit that sub 20kg mark inc the bike.
cheers anyway

Good Value Bike Box
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"This is a great value product. Enough space to add padding which should still get you in well under the weight limit for plane transport.
Thought at first the outside clips were a bit suspect, but once they are locked no problem.
Wheels deep enough and should not be damaged, but then again one never knows - especially with the baggage handlers as frustrated as many passengers over the last week (it's 23 December).
Would be nice if there was a choice of another colour (just kidding).
Once bike strapped in and secured, there should be no problems. Will recommend."

Peace Of Mind
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive
"Bought this box after much deliberation and searching for bike box products. This box came up trumps when traveling to Majorca for a weeks cycling in the mountains. My Merlin bike is my pride & joy so I wanted to ensure its safe passage and this box gave me peace of mind. Big enough to pack my bike, helmet, track pump, spare tyres, tubes and all my cycling clothes (used as additional padding for the bike). There are though a few negative comments and they are as follows:- As commented on other reviews the latches are not the easiest to engage and some times take a few attempts. All the wheels built into the box are of the fixed type so rolling the bike box from the car to the departures lounge is not the easiest thing to do (1 PR of front swivelling wheels would help a lot). But all in all I feel this box is good value for the money. Here's to the next cycling holiday abroad."

great product
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Good Fit
"No soft cases can provide the protection that this box can from the rough conditions of airport transfers, it is roomy to fit easily my road bike (medium size), the wheel bags are heavy duty, a spair pair of wheels is provided and the instructions are very good too. it is a bit heavier than stated (around 12kg altogether) but an excellent box. Recommended"

Great Box & Airline "Friendly"
Pros: High Quality, Rugged, effective, airline acceptable
Cons: Expensive, Bulky
"Bought the box locally as Wiggle wouldn't ship to the Middle East - which seems a touch strange, but I suppose understandable from a shipping cost perspective.
Used the box to transport my 57cm Ti framed bike from Dubai to Nice, Nice to Bristol, Bristol to Penzance (train) & London back to Dubai.
The box stood up remarkable well, with very little battle damage. Most of the marks on the box were from the chauffeur drive from my house to DXB airport, as the driver chose to but my wheeled soft bag on top of the bike box, which then slid around for the whole journey, slightly scratching the top.
The wheels on the box survived fine, which I assume to be a weak point, as spares are provided.
Packing the bike takes patience the 1st time, as it is quite a tight fit, but you do get better with practice. I found the instructions quite useful, if somewhat bizarre German to English translations in places. Pay attention to both the pictures and the text, as not all of the steps for the suggested approach are in both.
For me, I changed the method, so I remove the bars from the stem, rather than the stem from forks, as this was easier to rebuild and gave me the room I needed.
With a slightly smaller bike I could probably have got away with not removing the rear dérailleur - which would simplify the rebuild - but was not a massive issue.
I packed the wheels (in the supplied bags) on top of the frame, with the back wheels going in first (cassette facing "down").
I tried to use the wheel 'spacers' which push into the hollow axle of the wheels (where the QR goes), but these seemed to create more bulk (so increasing the pressure on the surrounding components) - and more difficulty packing, so I removed them.
I also used thin pieces of masking tape to mark the relative positions of the handlebars in the stem, and the seat tube height prior to disassembly of the bike, to aid the re-build process.
One small tip I found, when you have packed the box & closed the lid, check for any pressure points on the (quite flexi) lid. If you find any, try a rearrange things inside to remove them, as this would be where damage would most likely occur - either to the box, or the component inside.
I would suggest acquiring some pipe insulation from a DIY shop to protect the frame tubes, some garden wire to wire up the chain and the drop out protectors & some masking tape.
My biggest surprise was that the airlines had no issue with the size of the box, and checked me in for all three flights with no concerns. On Emirates from Dubai to Nice & London to Dubai this was not a shock, but EasyJet from Nice to Bristol was a pleasant surprise :) I had paid the "Sporting Goods" supplement for the flight though.
The box is heavy (even when empty!), and with just the bike inside was around 22KG's. I then added other 'bike related' stuff (tools, helmet, shoes, clothes etc) and got the (heaviest) weight up to around 27KG's - which again, the airlines didn't baulk at.
One side note, I had to use the train to get from Bristol to Penzance, and was not allowed to book a bike place with my ticket, as this was not a "bike".
I then had a brief "discussion" with a "Train Manager" who wanted to refuse me a place on the train from Plymouth to Penzance as he already had two bikes on board. When I "explained" that this is a large suitcase, that just happens to have a bicycle inside he eventually relented, and opened up a completely empty guards van to put it in!
Overall, a good buy - now all I need to find is somewhere to keep it!"

Bike intact from UK to OZ
Pros: Durable, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Expensive, heavy
"Spent ages looking for a bike box/bag to transport my new carbon fibre roadie back to Australia. Used the DHB bags previously and they are fine for my steel hard tail, but didn't want to risk the light weight carbon bike. Polaris looked best, but as you'll no doubt have figured out they are all sold out in the UK. I managed to get an XXL 60" Focus Cayo in, it was tight, but turned the forks inwards and took off the bars and steam. Plenty of additional packing and all was good. The construction is pretty good, other than the locks which are a little cheap, but I had no problems. Only major downside is its heavy, must be at least 11 KG's so you have to have alight bike to get it on the plane. Would recommend."

Bike Saved
Pros: Durable
"Sent brand new BMC pro machine to South of France via courier and when received the box had clearly received a significant impact (was dented with discolouration to the shell). No damage so it did its job. That said with this box it's impertive to pack it well with fork stabilisers provided with box + wheel hub protectors in place. See Andrew Cotty on utube which gives you a good idea + instructions provided are usefull. Packed well this is as good as any £500 box as far as i'm concern as my bmc being fully carbon is a high risk frame and i came out ok. Money very well spent."

Great Transport Companion
Pros: Rugged, Good Fit, lots of space
Cons: Bulky
"I purchased this box for a long haul flight for my prize machine, a new Trek Madone 5.9 2010, I wanted something i could trust, one of my club mates had one and never had any problems so i made the purchase, it is bulky but the only time you have to handle it is from House to car and Car to check in desk and same at the other end so thats not a problem really. The bike and wheels fit in very easily, remove pedals, seat post, and handle bars, and the + side of the box is all the space you have to pack in extra stuff around the bike. As most people mentioned the closing of the box can be tricky to line up the latches, but when its closed at least you know its closed, the strap gives you additional confidence. The bike arrived at the other end safe and sound, with one dint in the box, but thats what it is for."

Pros: Durable, Attractive, Rugged, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Bulky
"Looked at many, this one seemed the best value for high protection. I was worried my bike would not fit - Madone 6.9 - 60cm pro frame - it fits with enough room for packaging - the dimensions for the internal space are conservative - there is more space inside than stated !
Quality product with all the bits you need, very happy !!
Bulky but it's about as small as it can be. Wheels do not rotate but are probably more robust for it."
