Breaks easily and difficult to repair
Cons: Low Quality
"This chain broke on me twice, after about 6 months of use. I found it to break immediately after cleaning. Perhaps it is my fault that I would clean the chain with a rag or with a scrubby and this would leave fibre into the chain and then it separates. I had always cleaned my previous chain this way without problem.
As a result of the chain breaking, I have had to replace the front deraileur, and arrived work very late... its a long walk home without a chain. From this point of view, its simply not worth worth the hassle."

Snaps - a lot.
Pros: Good Fit

"When it's working, it performs well BUT In the 6 months it's been on the chain has snapped three times, the last time taking out my rear derailleur and snapping the hanger (got home to find the replacement XTR/Dura chain I'd ordered sat on my door mat).
When it's working, it works well, but it has proved extremely unreliable. Never had this problem with any other chain before in 15 years of mountain biking. Doesn't seem to be other peoples experience, so I may just have a duff chain."

Perfectly Satisfied
Pros: Great Value, Good Fit
"I bought this chain as a replacement when I upgraded my frame and put my old rear mec (Shimano Deore XT) on my new bike- the old chain was grimey and gritty (due to poor maintenance I'll admit) and I wanted I nice clean one and went for a direct replacement. So far so good- the new chain fits and with lashings of GT85 (-my new maintenance procedure) works like a charm. I know it's only a bog standard chain but it deserves a review nonetheless!"

Good value chain

"First time I've fitted a chain - be really careful lining up the chain tool, I wasn't and had to cut the chain a bit short, chain holding up well in the circumstances."

"It didn't last very long. Snapped at least twice before I chucked it. Didn't have it too long, maybe 2 months. Hope my new Wiggle KMC 9l will bring home gold after my XT chain gives up...."

THe Best Chains

"Have used genuine shimano chains for years with no problems, especially throught the winter. Tried a cheaper alternative this winter. Giving winter bike some tlc, noticed chain broken in three place!! How did it get me home. The lesson learnt - stick with shimano. May cost a little more but never had any such problem."

long lasting quality good

"OK, so this is not the lightest or the cheepest chain out there, but having worked my way through similar (sometimes cheeper) alternatives from KMC and Sram in the last few years I have found the Shimano HG53 to last longer thus offering better long term value for money. I have also (as yet) not had it break on me whilst out on the trail, something I can not say for the KMC alternatives I have tried."

"This product was packed with a light oil for obvious reasons; it proved simple to install on my bike, and the instructions will be easy to follow for a novice (I have changed numerous chains so it's no problem for me) and the connecting pin as supplied, was easy to install.
