Less pedalling effort ?

"Having had my old chain come off the big chain ring and bend as it wrapped around the pedal (fortunately without causing an accident) i was forced to purchase a new one. I decided to upgrade to the HG93 from the previous HG53. It felt lighter than the old chain and even felt less effort to pedal. Have since had the gears reset by my great LBS rather than the high street chain whose poor adjustment had caused the original problem and my bike now feels better than ever. I now always think it is worth the little extra to upgrade when replacing original equipment."

"Excellent 9 speed chain by Shimano I use a Sram connecting link for fitting my chain. Ive never had any gearing problems with this chain and never snapped one (however I do maintain and use a chain wear tool which indicates when to change chain)."

"Bought to be used on my hybrid when I replaced my Chainset and cassette. I put a Tiagra chainset on and Ultegra cassette so decided upon this chain to run on it. The chain runs smooth and shifts cleanly, I got many miles out my old HG73 chain and expect the same here. I fitted it with a quick release link I had and had no problems. You can tell when taking links out to fit it how well the chain is made.
Would buy again."

"A good replacement chain for my commuter bike. After having a chain snap and send the rear mech through my wheel and snapping my carbon stays, I now replace my chain regularly. It's a small price to pay when think about what damage can be caused. These chain are good quality and a reasonable price."

"It is a bit difficult to know what to say about a chain afterall it can do little more than its job. Having said that this Shimano HG93 chain is one of the more expensive chains that Shimano make and it is designed to fit with the XT level groupset. It is a very smooth riding chain and to date has not come off! I am using it with an XT 770 chainring at XT gear at both ends and it provides super slick shifting that I cannot fault and which is the envy of my friends who are NOT Shimano advocats. In my opininion it is probably worth spending a few more notes on this chain for its looks and durability."

"i went from an lx chain to this when i got my xt cassette and its been worth the upgrade. this chain looks better it is more shiny and the outer links do not seem to rust, i think they are zinc coated or something? i went out on my bike when it was bucketing it down and got it plastered in mud and after a week there was almost no rust except in the centre of some links but i was still pretty impressed. i just degreased and re lubed and im good to go."

"I bought this to see if there were any benefits to buying the higher quality Shimano chain over their standard 9 speed one. Compared with the HG53 this chain lasts the same amount of time and shifts just as well.
The only benefit of the HG93 is the zinc alloy plated outer links don't rust and always look shiny, this doesn't affect performance or lifetime but if it is important to you then buy this chain and you won't be dissapointed. If this chain was only an extra £5 then I would buy for this reason, but at twice the price of a HG53 it isn't worth it.
I cycle mainly on road in hilly terrain, lubricate the chain regularly and wipe off any gunge at the same time, I don't bother with more exotic cleaning methods. This chain may last longer than a HG53 under different conditions.
I got just over 2000 miles out of this chain before it stretched 0.75% around most of its length and was replaced. Changing chains at this point prevents premature wear of the cassette and chain rings (as mentioned in other reviews)."
