Speedplay Frog Stainless Pedals

Like their amphibious namesake, Frog pedals are equally at home in dry or muddy terrain. Their unique cleats are virtually immune to clogging with mud or dirt, because debris is pushed out whenever you engage the pedal. This simple mechanism also puts an end to those infuriating falls caused by gunked-up pedals that won't release. You get out when you want to, and never when you don't. Of course, you also get all the advantages of Speedplay's other innovative designs: knee-friendly, non-centering free float; lightning-fast entry and exit; and phenomenal light weight. Whether you ride a mountain bike, road bike, tandem or 'cross bike, the Speedplay Frog can do it all.

Nice
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: non
"Easy to fit system, I use them on my MTB and Road bike.
Easy to clip into and strong when engaged - yet easy to disengage at those awkward moments.
I like the amount of free float you get with this pedal, no knee pains after long rides at all!!!!"

Superb Pedals!
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Lightweight
"I swapped to these pedals from a set of Shimano A530's.
I've had problems with my knee and the increased degree of float available with these pedals compared to the Shimano ones definitely makes a difference and makes for less painful knees! The amount of float does take a little bit of getting used to as I felt, at first, that the cleats weren't really secured but it's just the extra float allowing your foot to move.
Clipping in is also a lot easier than the Shimano SPD system."

Your knees will thank you!
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"I was looking for pedals which were lighter, easier to engage/disengage and, above all, more kind with my knees (thanks to the non-centering free float) than the SPD ones I used previously: the Speedplay Frog pedals are what I needed! Furthermore, like SPD pedals, they are ideal for road riders who prefer a recessed, walkable cleat. For all these reasons, I warmly recommend them."

Quality Product
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"From the initial packaging to the final product we havre quality here. The pedal is wel made, the bearings are smooth running andthe installation instructions are great. Having never used clip ins before I found these pedals very easy to get used to. Clip in is quick and efficient. Unclipping is so easy. I love the ability to move my feet about while clipped in as my knees are hat hot so I can readjust while in the saddle."

Speedplay pedals
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"The best pedals made, my last pair lasted over 10 years and only stopped working due to my poor maintenance, on top of that they are one of the lightest pedals you can buy. There is no other pedal too buy"

Revelation
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"First time user of clipless pedals, having just made the switch from toeclips and straps. (Better 10 years late than never.)
Pros of the Speedplay Frog:
Does exactly what it was designed to do.
Double-sided pedal allows pretty easy clip in.
Lightweight, compared with most other products.
Adequate installation instructions.
No resistance on exit.
Cons:
No resistance on exit. Takes some getting used to the free float.
Not the cheapest pedal around.
May not fit all shoes, such as mine, but nothing an angle grinder can't fix.

Pros: Comfortable, Adjustable, Good Fit
"I bought these Speedplay Frogs as I have been suffering recently with knee pain and was informed that these are the way forward. I can certainly vouch for this now - they are excellent! I would recommend that you do the unheard of (as a bloke) and read the setup instructions! This will enable you to get the cleat positioned in exactly the right place and avoid your feet scuffing the cranks etc. After using XTR Spd's for years - the clicking in and out takes a ride or two to get used to but after that - you wont look back!
Ive given 4 stars on the price as they arent the cheapest pedals out there -
Build quality wise, they look great and spares are readily available when ive killed them in years to come....All in all, not the most attractive pedal but who cares if it saves your knees!

Speedplay Frog Stainless Pedals
"I've just returned to cycling after a long break and have recently had some knee problems. I mainly use my bike for commuting around the city. I wanted to try clipless pedals and the Speedplay Frog's although expensive have a knee-friendly non-centering free float system. I have found them extremely easy to engage and release. So far I've not experienced any knee pain and find them secure and comfortable when pedaling. The cleat although recessed does scrap a bit when walking. I've only been using the pedals for a couple of weeks but so far I'm very pleased with them."

Excellent first impressions
Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive, Unattractive
"Very pleased with my choice. Simple to set up, cleats fitted my old Shimano MTB shoes, adjustment almost instant. Knee pains already vanished after 3 days - can this be real? Very easy in and out, very secure feeling in and out of the saddle.
Not convinced about the durability of the little clippy thing in the cleat, and suspect this design could be improved, but the performance advantages give Speedplay my loyalty. My next bike will have the little lollipop Speedplay pedals.

Update

I'd just like to add that after a VERY satisfactory year with the Frogs in all weathers, I decided to have them on my best bike too. I can't recommend them enough. The little clippy thing in the cleats whose durability I questioned on first purchase has proved plenty durable enough. I keep the cleats clean and wipe the pedals with chain lubricant (Rock n Roll blue), and that seems to be all that's needed. Brilliant.

Dodgy Knees? Get These.
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"My first pair of (Chromoly) Frogs has eventually died and I have had no hesitation in replacing them with the same. This time I've gone for the stainless versions as the price difference is minimal. I used my first pair on a 25-mile round trip commute every day year-round as well as proper off-road rides ( 7 Stanes, Cwm Carn, North Downs etc) almost every weekend, again, year-round. After 2 years of this sort of use the bodies were finally coming apart. Rather than replace the entire pedal, I spent about £35 on a new body kit, and got another 2 years out of them. The only maintenance I did was injecting grease into the grease port once every 3 weeks or so during summer; a little more often in winter, so there's no fiddly replacing bearings like some of the competition. The cleats do wear, as with all cleated pedals, but the wear rate is dramatically reduced with a quick squirt of GT85 before riding. So yes, you can spend £15 on a pair of SPD-a-likes and bin them when they fall apart, or you can get some of these which will take a beating and last.
But the real selling point for me is the float. I have had 2 knee reconstructions after too much rugby, and SPDs just hurt. Frogs don't - simple as that. Like any new pedal system, they take a couple of rides to get used to the feel, but once you're there, you can't imagine it any other way.
The only downside is the price, especially the cleats, and especially if you have several pairs of shoes. Then again, £100 divided by 4 years isn't too bad, especially with the money you could save on physio and (worst case) surgery.
To sum up, I'm astonished more people don't ride these pedals - they're the best bike purchase I've made in years."

Best pedals for knees!
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
"I'd used Shimano pedals before, but the use of spring tension means that if the angle of the cleat is slightly out, your knees can be under a lot of strain. I personally had a lot of knee trouble on long rides, and decided to switch to Speedplay Frogs that use no springs and have a free floating system. Wow, what an improvement! It feels a bit strange initially because one's feet can pivot without any resistance. Eventually this becomes second nature. And best of all..... no more knee problems!
They are well made, with very few parts. Easy to maintain, rugged, lightweight. Brilliant!"

Do what they're supposed to.
Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Expensive, Poor Fit, Wears Out Easily
"Great free or adjustable float, really easy to clip in and out of, and are well made. Fit almost all shoes. Very light.
They are expensive for what they are, though, and need fiddly maintenance to replace grease lost in the mechanism.
I also had to improvise an adjustment for my shoes as I was getting accidental clip outs."
