Great front light
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable
"Very good light output and spread, and I like its chunky style. You'll need the Cateye oversized bracket H31 for 30.8 dia handlebars."

A useful addition
Pros: High Quality, Adjustable
Cons: Bulky
"They're big. Very big. Which is a problem when you lock-up your bike to go into shops, taking the peripherals with you... But there the negatives end. The light is fantastic when going down dark country lanes: normally, you can't see the potholes - but you can with these! Moreover, oncoming vehicles can see you from afar and, occasionally, even slow and dip their headlights !! The handlebar bracket has been fine too, and stops the light from wobbling while allowing for easy adjustment. Battery life seems quite reasonable. Overall, I'm sure there are brighter and better lights to be purchased, but for the price paid (reduced on the wiggle site) these are just fine."

A bit dated now
Cons: Bulky
"I've had one of these for several years now, and while it has been very reliable, the design is showing its age. Its very bulky for the amount of light it gives out.
The worst thing about it is that the mounting bracket is way behind its centre of gravity which means it rattles continuously and bumps tends to cause it to droop. It will probably suffer a fatigue failure eventually!
It offers no strobe, just on or off."

Best Commuter Headlight
Pros: Durable, Rugged, High Quality, dependable, bright light, good battery life, bracket excellent
Cons: could be lighter
"I've got 4 of these light on two bikes. The first set are over 5 years old and are only just beginning to show signs of wear. I'm buying 2 more as an insurance policy in case they stop making them. I've also bought some spare brackets. I also have two EL530s which are great as lights, but can't be used for commuting as the on-off switch is too easy to activate which is a stupid idea when you want to put the lights in your bag. The brackets with the EL530s aren't fit for service either and come loose very quickly. These EL300s are durable but not lightweight. I use them with Duracells which seem to last right through the winter. Only issue - take care when changing the batteries to ensure the two halves are correctly aligned when you screw them back together - it can to be awkward to line them up right. The handlebar brackets, once adjusted work very well with a satisfying "snap" action as you close the quick release. Get these lights whilst you still can!"

Its not bad on-road.......but not ideal off it
Pros: Durable, Rugged
Cons: Expensive, Unattractive, Bulky, Poor Fit
"I bought this and fitted it to my MTB, not ideal but at the time I was using my bike mainly on road.
Fitting was simple except that the screw isn't really long enough to tighten the clamp up fully. This leads to the light dropping as you ride along especially if its bumpy and absolutely rubbish off-road so don't go there.
Changing batteries is a bit fiddly but easy enough and the batteries do last well.
The beam provided by the 5 LEDs is good but I'd personally be expecting a little bit more from 5 LEDs...
Don't get me wrong it is a good product but I think I have quite fussy high standards. For me the body of the light is bulky and quite front heavy and could have been designed better - (the new ones from cateye look much better! I've just got to save up to buy one!)
Good for smooth road use but not off-road or on bumpy byroads.

"The light itself is great. I'm using it on unlit country backroads.
As usual (for me) however with these Cateye front lights....after a few days use the catch under the light is broken, therefore when I slide it on to the mount it wobbles...making it break even more....Have it taped on now to stabilise it, no issues....
But disappointed with the catch/mount mechanism.
Experienced this issue previously with a EL530 and a EL220 suppose I should learn my lesson and try another brand....
On the contrary, using a Cateye TL-LD130 Rear Light for some time now , no issues.
also using Cateye TL-LD1100 Rear light on another bike, no issues.

Be seen, be safe.
Pros: Attractive, Adjustable, Good Fit
Cons: Bulky
"This is the best front light I have ever used. The large built in Cat Eyes make sure you can be seen by oncoming cars at night. Battery life is good and I don't need to change the batteries to often."

Cateye HL-EL300 LED Front Light
"I can't review this Item because the handlebar bracket does not fit my oversize handle bar, I have a Pearson Touche fitted with courier bars. The threaded rod that screws the bracket together isn't long enough to reach and allow me to screw the bracket together. Looking at the light it looks good, nice bright light and it feels solid. Fitting the batteries is a bit of a faf, it could be better designed. It should make a good commute light."

Cateye HL-EL300 LED Front Light
Pros: Durable, Rugged, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"Brought this for my son so he'd be safe on his paper round. I have had one myself for 2 or 3 years now and it has been reliable and is quite bright . I use a good set of rechargeable batteries in it. I use my bike on a road commute don't know what this would be like with heavy handling eg. serious off road stuff"

Tough and reliable
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Not Enough Features, Bulky, not enough distance
"The light output is good but not be as good as an HL-EL530, however my HL-EL300 has been dropped so many times, been in crashes, and still survives intact, unlike the absurd open-sided design of the HL-EL530 shell, which allowed to shell to break far too easily!
My upgrade light will probably be either a Hope Vision One or a Nuke Proof Reactor, because the light output and case quality blow away the over-hyped, brittle, HL-EL530 shell."
