"How cheap are these! Replaced originals on my Trek with Fulcrum Racing 5 wheels & noticed immediate substantial improvement. Muuuuuuch smoother breaking with great feel. If your wheels are true don`t worry about comments re longer lever travel it is only marginally more & you will adapt in no time. Again look at the price, fantastic."

"Bought these to overcome the poor performance of the TekTro brakes that come standard on my Canondale Six Carbon 5. The Koolstop blacks did the trick, and perform adequately in the wet for my riding. Wear after 2000K is good too."

"I've used both black and salmon and can't really find a difference between them - haven't tried either in the wet as it doesn't rain in Australia anymore. Used them in a D/Ace - Mavic combo and in a SRAM Red - Zero G combo on regular alloy rims and also Mavic ceramics. Nice lever feel once you get used to a bit of 'squishiness' but oh so progressive and quiet and they do absolutely no harm to the rim. I'm over a thousand Km's with the salmon on ceramic Mavic's and no real sign of wear. Probably one of the best and cheapest things you can do to improve the ride of a bicycle. So good I'll never buy anything else again !"

Excellent in the rain but needs a lot of travel

"Bought a set of salmon pads to replace a set of generic pads. They are lots better for stopping in both wet and dry conditions. The extra sticky-out bit on the pad means you need to have lots of travel on your brake action so your wheels need to be properly aligned. I had no problem with squeak as some other reviews have mentioned.
They make a world of difference for the London commuter who likes drop bars but doesn't want to die."

"Good grief, these little darlings are grippy. I bought these to replace a pair of stock blocks which came with my Tektro brakes. After a few near misses, I thought it was about time to put something on with some real stopping power.
The salmons have an odd feel, they're slightly squishy compared to regular compound and you may feel as if you need to press harder. You don't. Believe me, you don't. I nearly went over the front of the bars the first time I did a full stop at speed. Treat them with a bit of love, and you'll get the feel for them. They are excellent, and I am very glad I made the change."

Very dissapointing

"I am shocked so many people give these brake pads a good review. The problem is that they have a big lip at the back which is supposed to clean the rim as you brake. All it actually does is stop you getting the pad within 1cm of the rim without the back of the pad rubbing.
This means my brakes are spongy and unresponsive. They have improved as the lip has worn away but I certainly won't be getting another pair when they're used up. When dura ace pads are only fractionally more expensive I will certainly be using them from now on."

"I use the pink 'wet' pads for general use, as I use 7800 brakes with 7900 levers, which reduces braking performance due to the ratio of 'pull' between the two Dura ace series. The 'softer' pink pads compensate a little for this.
I expected greater pad wear because of this however I did not notice any real difference in terms of wear.
Good upgrade for not a lot of outlay."

"Bought to replace some tektro pads on tektro caliper brakes. There was no discernible difference in the dry and only a little in the wet. The wear rate was about the same. So while they do offer an upgrade I would look elsewhere for any significant performance benefit."

100 times better than the jagwire pads I was using, took a little while to bed in but we're talking a couple of hours
not days. Very quiet, great in the wet (salmon) they dont sound like your applying an angle grinder to your rims
very pleased, these pads are reasonably priced and I will be using these again when the time comes, not sure on durability yet as I've had a cold so not done many miles since fitting them."

"Just installed 2 pair of Kool Stop brake cartridge inserts on to my 105 equipped commuter road bike. I've always been a bit "underwhelmed" with the stopping performance of 105 on this bike (Fondriest FZ4) and have tried everything to get improved, even and predictable braking performance - nothing really worked beyond what I would call "minor or marginal" improvements. I actually bought the Kool Stops for my #1 bike and it was only on a whim that I installed them on the commuter. I noticed an immediate, considerable improvement after changing over the cartridges to Kool Stops. I have been riding on them for over a week (a very wet week of approx 250kms) and can say that I'm very impressed. I'll continue to use Kool Stop cartridges on my commuter and have ordered a bunch more for my other bikes."

Fantastic upgrade for my bike.

"Bought these after reading Internet recommendations. I replaced stock Tektro R580 pads on my Boardman Team road bike as the originals were the weak point of the bike.
These are fantastic. I have so much more confidence in the brakes and all for a relatively small outlay.
Very easy to swap over. However, it's very easy to ruin the thread of the grub screws if you aren't that experience and try and tighten them too much. Might need a new brake block when that pad wears out…
All in all, an excellent purchase. Don't know about wear yet but they are well worth it to me."
