Schwalbe Marathon Plus Smartguard City Tyre

The newly developed puncture protection found in the Marathon Plus means punctures are just a distant memory. The SmartGuard‚ layer made from a flexible, special rubber offers particular resistance to shards of glass and flints. Even a thumbtack cannot penetrate this protective layer! The SmartGuard belt does not increase rolling resistance. The Marathon Plus rolls as easily as a tyre without protection.

NO MORE PUNCTURES!!!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Rugged, High Quality
Cons: Bulky
"Had these tyres on my hybrid bike which i used for commuting to work. I cycled over 1600miles, and sometimes through very poorly maintained roads to say the least. Yet i had not a single puncture. These tyres are truelly something extrodinary. They are a tad on the weighty side, but they grip extremely well and they seem to keep on going. There is still plenty of tread left on them. Would thoroughly recommend for anybody wanting to get rid of those blasted punctures.
My pair was extremely awkard to fit, but once they are on you really don'y need to take them off. These tyres are soo good ive just purchased a pair for my mountain bike."

Finally no punctures
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality
"Cycling to work once or twice a week on trails and roads meant dealing with punctures fortnightly. I thought about quitting but decided to buy some of these puncture resistant tyres. I was a little worried about weight but after using these for 6 months I am very impressed. I've done a couple hundred miles in these babies and have had no punctures or problems. I haven't noticed the weight difference either but I'm not a pro cyclist anyway. I recommend these if you hate getting punctures."

Worth it :)
Pros: Attractive, Durable, High Quality, Rugged
"I was running the tyres that came with my Scott Sportster and was sick of getting punctures (at one time I had 3 in as many days!). I bought these as Im hoping to do the coast to coast ride this summer.
So far they have been fantastic. Ive not had to worry about where Im riding, and have even started to leave the spare tube at home :o
I ride about 80 miles a week and have had these about two or three weeks now, and they still look brand new.
The reflective strip is very good too, and now I probably resemble something off Tron!
Fitting wasnt too time consuming either, yes a bit tight but no expletives were said while I fitted them.
I also recommended these to a friend who has recently purchased them and he is equally as happy with them."

Simply Incredible
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile, reliable
Cons: a little heavier, no folding version
"My son and I rode 10,000 miles (16,000ok) from Ireland to Japan last year which is a failry good opportunity to test tyres. We rode traditional touring bikes on and off road and selected 32mm Shwalbe Marathon Plus tyres on my bike but left the standard Shalbe Marathon tyres on my son's.
After 5,500 miles we changed the tyres. My Marathon Plus tyres still had a bit wear left in them despite my extra weight, and had suffered not a single puncture. My son's Marathons had suffered 10 punctures (9 of them due to riding through a field of thorns) and were bald. I rode over the same field of thorns but they failed to puncture the Marathon Pluses.
The second half of the trip we both fitted Marathon Plus tyres and had no problems so I cannot recommend these tyres highly enough. The Marathon Plus is a fairly heavy tyre but the extra weight is well worthwhile. They are more expensive than average tyres but well worth the premium if you don't like fixing punctures. There is no folding version which could be a downside. I doubt I will ever fit anything else to my bike."

Best Decision for Adventure Race

Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, no punctures
Cons: a bit hard to re-fit but didn't need to
"Used the 28mm Schwalbe Marathon Plus Smartguard Tyres on both front and rear wheels on a Road Bike for the Gaelforce West 2009 Adventure Race which is the largest Adventure race in Ireland. They were a tight fit OK but everything worked out fine.
The cycle part of the event (approx 45km ) covers road, mountainous back roads with plenty of pot holes and gravel and off-road which has plenty of stones, rocks and boggy ground.
As this was my first Gaelforce event and I didn't really know the course, I didn't want to take the chance of getting punctures.
Allthough the tyres felt a small bit slower on the flat sections (which were few) they more than held their own on the steep ascents and some of the decents were dangerous enough that you weren't going to go flat out anyway and you were thankful for the extra grip.
They were also perfect for the off-road sections that you could cycle on.
Not sure how narrower 23mm or less tyres would have fared but I definitely think I would have had to stop for puncture repairs - saw quite a few on the roadside repairing punctures.
So overall - very happy with them - no punctures, and times were pretty good. Will probably try the Schwalbe 25mm smartguard typres next year"

Bought these, not had a puncture since!
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Good Fit
"I was getting about an average of about one puncture a week until I bought a set of these tyres. It has only been three weeks but since then, I've not had a single puncture. Well worth every penny in my opinion!"

Peace of mind
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality
Cons: a little heavy
"Smooth riding tyre. More importantly, I feel much safer during the long commutes on dark winter nights. The tyres are a little heavier than average, but I don't even notice the difference on my commuter bike."

Highly Recommended
"Recent replacement for one identical rear Tyre which had covered 3000 miles with only 2 punctures. Other tyre still unpunctured. Used mainly on road in area of North Downs famous for its flints! One of the punctures was a 2 inch nail which also destryed tube, hence replacement. Vastly superior to Specialized armadillos previously fitted."

You will not tire with this tyre.
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
"Although this tyre, at 700 x 28 is a lot heavier than the original 700 x 32 Marathon it has no effect on the rolling ability. Once you are under way the difference is not noticable.
It has a good tread plus the puncture-prrof belt gives a lot of piece of mind.
Beware that these tyres are a lot larger than 'normal' tyres. I took off a 32 and put on this 28, over a measured distance I had to set the computer to 77 x 35 to get a correct reading - but it means I did not have to let the mudguards out."

solid
"I'm on my second set of these tyres now. I'm not someone who is passionate about tyres, seeing them as a means to an end rather than something to get excited about.
I use these on a cyclocross on potholed city roads and canal paths. I can vouch for their puncture resistance. I had absolutely no punctures for months, until they started showing a bit of wear.
They are a very tight fit, so there is a chance you will damage the inner tube when putting them on, so be careful, and use plastic levers.
They are slightly heavier than some other tyres out there, so if you are manic about getting your racing weight down, you're gonna need something else!"

Schwalbe Marathon+ , with smartguard
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Good Fit
"Superb Tyre. Ridden it for about 3 weeks now on the road and across grassy lane . No punctures as promised on this hardy tyre with the bright smartguard around the rim to make you visible at night. I would say that it is more difficult to fit than some tyres and i used extra metal tyre levers and also secured parts of the tyre I had put on by using plastic cable ties, and also a bit of vegetable oil. The extra effort was worth it though as I am now fully confident of this product which runs like a dream with no noticeable extra road drag"

Bored of getting punctures? Look no further
Pros: Durable, Rugged, High Quality
Cons: heavy, tricky to fit
"I started commuting to work about 6 months ago (roughly 8 miles through London) with a new hybrid bike and the slick tyres it came with. For the first 4 months I didn't get any punctures but after that it became far to regular, the worst being four in one week all on the back tyre. So I decided this couldn't go on and bought the Schwalbe Marathon Plus Smartguard City Tyre for my back wheel.
I've had it for a month now and so far so good as I haven't got a puncture yet. So if you're looking to get as close to guaranteeing that wont get a puncture then this is tyre you want.
There a couple of negatives, its noticeably heavier so my 45 mins commute is taking about 50 mins now. But im happy to sacrifice some pace for the protection it offers. It was also quick tricky to fit as the tyre is less flexible, I needed help from a second pair of hands to get it on. But hopefully now its on I wont need to take it off for a very long time."

good winter tyre
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Good Fit
Cons: ultimate grip
"Good tyre for the winter virtually puncture proof' wears well but would suggest if used on the front not the best for ultimate grip."

OK so far
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"Too early to comment on their puncture-resistance but they are really tricky to fit - use new tubes so you are 100% sure that they're sound before you fit the tyres."

Good bye punctures hello road
Pros: Durable, Rugged
Cons: Expensive
"baught these after a fortnight of punctures. There wasn't a day when I wasn't getting a thorn, nail or shard of glass stuck in my rubber. After a couple of hours of reading reviews of this tyre and that tyre. When after reading the legion of reviewers extolling the virtues of these puppies decided to blow the expence and bye me some. Thank god I did these suckers take no prisoners. Yes they are expensive, yes they may be a bit heavy. But when your stuck in the middle of no where trying to repair yet another puncture, for the third time, in the rain at night. Stick your hand in your pocket and do yourself a favor and bye yourself, and your bike some good solid, dependable slippers."
