CG-2 - Brilliant tool

"Heard all the tails about the nightmare of having to clean your chain with a toothbrush! I was dreading having to do this and kept putting it off. I checked out Wiggle's website and come across the CG-2. I read all the reveiws (pro's and con's included) and decided to take a chance with this piece of kit (it arrived within 30 hours - greath service) No nightmares for me, after 10 mins (this included mastering the tool) yesterday afternoon I had a sparkling new chain. My advice, throw away the tooth brush and buy this kit. It will be money well spent.
One bit of advice if anyone is interested that is? Take the tool apart and put it in a bucket of luke warm soapy (a little washing up liquid) water and leave it to soak while you finish cleaning the rest of your bike. Just rince it under the tap when your ready and wipe dry. Job done! happy day's."

Brilliant!

"The cleaner has a little compartment with a magnet at the bottom, and there was a surprisingly large amount of metal in there after the first time using it. The sponge at the back of the compartment cleans the chain on it's way out. The brushes, though flimsy looking gave the chain a good clean. I was having problems shifting gears on my bike, after a good clean the chain moved up and down gears far easier. It was almost like having a new bike!

You get a little curved brish to clean the cassette, which I used which did the job. There was still some muck on the cassette but I'll clean that properly with a larger brush.

Overall very good value for money, dead easy to use and you can pick up more cleaning fluid from Wiggle or from other bike specialists."

Clean Job

"Have been struggling to clean my chain properly with hand brushing so thought I'd give this cleaner a go as the price seemed reasonable.

Received the unit and it was easy to assemble i.e. just slide the handle on!
Like some of the other reviews state it is a little light on build but mainly the handle connection seems weak, but if not roughly used not a problem.

Nice tip when reading the manual that they say lay news paper down, a little thought taken writing it!
Filled the unit with the cleaner ( I received the bottle not packets as mentioned), connected up and started winding, managed to take the chain of the rings but that was because I was pulling slightly on it, soon got a nice rhythm going and the chain was soon clean!

I was impressed with how it worked and how easy it was and not to much mess either, spent 5 minutes with a clean cloth wiping down the chain rings and general tidying and the job was done, from gritty jammed chain to clean lubricated chain!

Great purchase and will be used regularly, should have bought this ages ago!!!"

Park Tools CG-2 Chain Gang Chain Cleaner Set

"I'm relatively new to the whole 'cleaning components' game, historically I'd never have thought it was even something worth doing, basically because my previous bike was inexpensive and wasn't being used too regularly.

That changed when I decided to get a decent road bike with expensive components. I've come to depend on the bike now, as I use it to commute to work almost daily - a 26 mile round-trip - so reliability is essential.

This piece of kit is dynamite, doing exactly what it says on the tin. After running it thought this clever gadget, my oil-/rain-/dirt-soaked chain was transformed back into its original, shiny self.

I've used it a handful of times now, and it hasn't let me down so far. It's possibly not the cheapest of its type in the market, but so far I really can't complain about the end results.

Job done!!"

The chain cleaner seams to be made of quality material and felt comfortable to handle. Not cheap in any way.

"My chain and gearing had gone black and gunky after just a few long rides, so I just wanted something to give it a quick spruce up and after 10 minutes I had the chain looking as good as new and with the cassette brush it didn't take long to clean that up.

Seemed to make my gearing a little bit crisper after a very good clean too.

Been using it once a month and after every ride just giving a clean with some hand wipes I find keeps it looking good as new."

A Revelation!

"For years I've lived without a chain-cleaning device but I finally took the plunge after seeing the price of this set.

Dirty chain!

"Slowly but surely starting to clean and service my bike and this cleaner set is excellent. Took the back wheel off to thoroughly clean the gears (I'd forgotten they were self colour silver) and then ran the chain through.

The gunk that came off was shocking - felt quite guilty for leaving it so long."

"The chain cleaner tool is easy to use and does a good job of removing dirt and debris from the chain. The brush and toothed tool help with cleaning the cassette and chain ring. Fairly economical in use with the supplied cleaning fluid but other degreasing fluids are available and better value. Initial shedding of brush material was slightly annoying but soon stopped with a couple of uses. I use it regularly and it's proved effective at keeping the drive gear in good condition."
