TA 104 PCD 4-Arm MTB Compact Middle Chainring

T.A have been making chainrings for 60 years. The teeth are cut in the traditional manner on a lathe which produces a much better and more accurate tooth form than stamping, which is used by most chainring manufacturers.

Great Quality TA Rings
Pros: Attractive, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"Applies to all three rings: Lightweight (c/f xt rings), good looking and great shifting rings. At worst same shifting perfromance as XT but at best even smoother. Married to SRAM PG980 cassette, XT Cranks, SRAM PG991 chain - a definite improvement over all XT products and noticeably lighter weight.
Doesn't matter is you choose 18mm or 23mm 44T main ring - both fit XT cranks. 18mm is the best match though.

Great & Long lasting
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"Used every day commuting for over 2 1/2 years (8,000 miles), more expensive than Shimano but far better quality and durability.
Wouldn't use anything else having also tried Middleburn hardcoat and Race Face.

Excellent longevity
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: Expensive
"I worked for five years as a cycle courier, go cycle touring every year and train year round. I used to churn through chainrings due to the high mileage in all weathers. TA rings were recommended to me and I have been a firm convert ever since.
Yes, they cost more than Shimano OE rings, but for 1 1/2 times the price they last me at least 3 times as long (though this may be just the way I ride), and are useable right up to the day the teeth become triangular! An excellent product; long may they last."

Check compatablity
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"I assumed (wrongly) that all 4 bolt rings would fit perfectly well together. I got this one as I couldn't find any Blackspire Superpro. The ring looks great, but when set up with my inner and outer blackspire it sits a little off centre, being closer to the outer ring. I've tried a couple of thin washers to centre it, but then there isn't much thread left on the bolts to tighten up with so I've left it as it is.
I suppose this is a minor niggle as the ring seems to work fine, apart from a slight delay from inner to middle shifting where a "shift and a half" is sometimes needed.
One month after fitting and guess what..........loads of Blackspire Superpro's have been imported!
Can't comment on durability, but I always go with the "you get what you pay for" motto and so am expecting no long term problems.

Slick, Well Machined and Well Priced
Pros: Attractive, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
"I am running these on a Shimano XT Hollowtech II setup. I have had replacement XT rings and found them lacking in durability and friends have had trouble with Middleburn so I thought these looked attractively priced and nicely turned out.
I got some help from wiggle on selecting the right ones for my setup, "You can find the size of chainring you need by following the procedure. First measure between two adjacent chainring bolts centre to centre in mm* (*if you label the bolts a,b,c,d,e clockwise and measure between two adjacent bolts e.g bolt c and bolt d). Using this measurement multiply by 1.7 for 5 bolt chainsets and multiply by 1.4 for 4 bolt chainrings. This gives the PCD of the chainring and you can select any chainring with that measurement to fit your chainset.
(I believe XT uses a 104PCD sized outer and middle chainring with 64PCD inner)."
So far they are working really well and I would buy them again."

Brill Chain Rings
Pros: Attractive, Durable, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile
"Love these rings, loads of different sizes, you can get just the combo you want, very cool finish and style, work like clock-work and last for yonks. My previous set went 4 years on my training bike riding up to 80 miles a week, rain, salt, grit and sun and countless numbers of chains, always changed smoothly, eventually had to be replaced because the teeth were down to the nub. If you're wondering whether you're doing the right thing, don't, just buy them. You wont be disappointed."
