"If you tend to cycle on busy routes in towns or cities, then these are ideal.

A must-have for any city biker
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Good Fit
"An excellent filter that keeps the dust and nasty gasses out of your lungs. I have used these filters for over 2 years now and I can feel the difference every day when I come home from my commute. I never have that disturbing feeling in my throat or caugh after a ride (as I did before using these filters). It's not about price or how it looks; it is about staying healthy on the long run. Great product!"

Every cyclist should have one
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive, Unattractive, Wears Out Easily, Limited Color Choices
"I started wearing masks 4 months ago and haven't cycled since without them. Except once when I forgot them... and was quickly reminded they are vital!
This has really made a noticeable difference as I cycle an hour every day. And you will want to stock up on these filters (2 per pack) once you see how dirty the outside of the filters get!
Be sure to get the right size filter for your mask."

"If you cycle anywhere in a city with polluting traffic, you really should get one of these. Not only does it protect your lungs from harmful particles and chemicals, but pedestrians get out of your way pretty quick when they see a guy with a black mask speeding towards them."

Shocking
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"Bought one due to moving to london and noticed the traffic was making asthma bad, After 6 months the filter was black so was a shock to see what londoners breath in. Also i found during winter rides it provides a warm barrier between lungs and ice cold air.
Wear it all the time now."

no more bus fumes!
Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality
"I have been wearing these filters for about 5 years. They fit well, allow you to breath easily and really stop the fumes. A must for city rush hour. They are also stiffer that the other respro filters so they it is easy to pull on and off with one hand. They are expensive but worth it. If you don't want that taste of fumes in your mouth all day..."

It is necessary to exchange it regularly.
Pros: Durable, High Quality

best filters if you need to wear a mask..
Pros: Good Fit, High Quality
Cons: Wears Out Easily
"Anti pollution masks are not for everyone, and I've tried cycling in central London for about 2 years without and the last year with a mask and various filters.
I cycle about 2 hours a day, 5 days a week to and from work. Prior to using a mask I used to get a persistent irritating cough and a sore throat after cycling, especially on days when pollution was bad. Since using the mask I no longer seem to suffer from either.
On balance I think these filters offer about the best level of filtration out of all the options, but they aren't cheap. You do need to change them regularly to be effective. As another reviewer said they are pretty useless in the wet, but if its tipping it down pollution levels seem to be pretty low anyway so not as big an issue as you might think.
Interesting side effect of using the mask is that I find when I cycle without it on weekend rides my lung efficiency seems to have got better - maybe using one is like training at higher altitude improving the ability of your lungs to work with less oxygen!!!
If you are going to wear a mask then in my experience the techno gold filters seem to filter out the most gunk. However be prepared to get those lungs in training, and don't bother with the mask if its raining heavily."

Excellent for fumes protection
Pros: Good Fit, High Quality
Cons: Expensive, Wears Out Easily, no good in the wet
"These filters do make a big difference if you're stuck on a commute with trucks, buses and taxi cabs blocking the roads, you can really tell the difference.
HOWEVER, if you go hammer and tongs, perspiring a lot OR wear them in heavy rain then you'll notice three things;
1. There's a slight chemical taste to any moisture that hit's the filter and then is breathed in.
2. Occasionally you'll get a blue beard/face, again from large amounts of moisture where the filters do actually touch your skin. - It comes off when you scrub your face afterwards. :-)
3. It's a face mask! so if you are breathing in lots though all out effort, you simply won't get the same amount of breath as you would without a mask. - only noticeable at maximum effort though. Still, perhaps better than a lung full of diesel fumes?
