"Excellent security chain, although I think it will remain in the garage secured to the floor mounted security ring, I have worn it around my waist on a ride, just too bulky for longer rides and heavy. It would also help if it was available in longer lengths.

Great lock, but heavy

"I'm using this lock since almost a year, and I am very satisfied. The mechanism works great (after being in rain, snow and ice dozens of times), and the nylon hose covering the chain is still intact.
110 cm is long enough to go through the frame and the back wheel of my fully suspended mountain bike, and around a telephone pole. A U lock wouldn't work because the rear shock is in the way, but I feel as safe with this lock as with any U lock.
I would buy it again, but if you never had a chain lock before: these things are heavy, much heavier than a U lock."

"High quality, heavy (not that that's a big negative in my books) and I think it sends out the sign to a potential thief, 'move along and find an easier target!'. It's also insurance improved in a lot of countries in the EU at least, which is important if your bike does go missing!
While it's probably too heavy to ride everywhere with, it's probably also unnecessary to have such a big lock in most situations, like popping into the shops... but leaving the bike outside overnight or at a train station... well, I can't think of a lock I'd rather have attached!"

"Wow, this the mother of all chains. Weighs more than 4 bricks but is unbelievably strong. One of the ones listed by my insurer and rated the best. I believe them too. The lock and keys are also very high quality. Slips nicely around a carbon frame and won't scratch it as the material is so good"

"I have a sort of a love hate relationship with this lock. I hate having to have it but since I do, I love having it. Although its light for its strength it still adds a huge percentage to the overall weight of the bike."

"I've had two bikes stolen over the last couple of years.
I had narrowed down my security options down to just two, it was either going to be a case of surrounding the bike with bear traps and pictures of my mother-in-law in a bikini or buy the ABUS City Chain X!
I'm so glad I opted for the latter, I'm still a proud owner of an Eldridge Grade and my ankles and vision are still in tact.
The lock is something you'd see on a motorbike, it's not overly heavy painless to use. If you want your bike I'd say buy it!"

"I bought this product as a result of insuring my bike and this lock came with a Secure Gold rating. Be warned this is a very heavy chain which makes carrying it on a bike very awkward. I am waiting for the bag so I can attach it to the bike. At first I found the locking and unlocking quite awkward but have now got used to the way it works. It is quite a long chain so will easily go around the frame wheel and say a lampost. I am hoping that this will put off any would be thieves. Hopefully it will not be put to the test. I would recommend this lock but its bulkiness and weight will put a lot of people off."

A great lock for city dwellers

"When you live in a city, you know that d-locks just aren't strong enough to keep your bike secure any more and so the heavy, bulky chain locks become your best option. Let's be clear, this lock is heavy *but* it's considerably lighter than Kryptonite and OnGuard's equivalents with (according to its security rating) no loss of strength. For me, this is the main reason to spend the extra money on it over the other two - it's quite a bit more expensive but well worth it I think. Other benefits are that the cloth around the chain covers the entire chain so the metal links don't scratch your bike (why other chains aren't designed like this is beyond me) and that the integrated lock means you can wrap it around you seat pin."

"Hard to judge the performance and value as it hasn't been tested for it's true purpose - that is to say, will it stop the theif dead in his tracks. I bought this lock purely as it was a condition of my insurance policy. This bad boy weighs a tonne! It's like riding with another alu frame strapped to your back. Built roack solid though...the chain links are solid and large. Probably very handy at stopping the thief..definately handy as a weapon to swing when your getting mugged for your pride and joy!!"
