Shimano Dura Ace 7800 Hollowtech II Double Chainset

The new Dura-Ace chainset uses a two-piece design to maximize its stiffness for the optimum power transfer and minimal weight. A hollow cro-moly spindle is press-fitted into the driveside of the Hollowtech II crankarm, this spindle is what rotates in the new external cups, with little or no flex or loss of power. The bottom bracket bearings are now located outside of the bottom bracket shell to accomodate the oversized axle. The bearings are wider apart in comparison to the 9-speed's, this provides more axle support, yet again improving the power transfer. Amazingly though the Q-factor of the new crankset is unchanged from the 9-speed version. While the cranks themselves look substantially sturdier, when you combine the total weight of chainset and bottom bracket, it saves you 30g in comparison to its 9-speed predecessor. Not only have Shimano improved the crank arms, they have also machined the new rings to be lighter whilst still retaining extremely smooth and precise shifting. The Dura-Ace advantage has been proven on great road courses of the world. Dura-Ace road chainsets are available in the following lengths: 165mm, 170mm, 172.5mm, 175mm, 177.5mm, 180mm.

Great product
Pros: Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I upgraded from compact 105 to Dura-Ace 53.39 and it was the best thing I have done. The ratios are more efficent and the extra length in the crank made it a pleasure to ride.
Thanks Wiggle

Fits perfectly
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive
"Shimano only makes 180mm cranks available in DuraAce, so after many years I finally upgraded from my 175mm ultegra. What a difference, I can put out more power, and ride longer. It also shifts smoother than ultegra and looks cool."

Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"I wanted to replace standard 175 mm cranks on my bike with 180 mm. Dura Ace 7800 appeared to be the only reasonably priced set I managed to find. Surprisingly the weight was few grams less than my original carbon cranks and the new set feels much more solid than the previous one. So far I have only tested on trainer and can hardly wait to ride my test route on the road."

Dura-Ace - Always ACE!
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive
"Those who know about Dura-Ace don't need to read any reviews, those who don't, well, get yourself a test ride on a bike with a Dura-Ace gruppo, but beware, you'll never want to go back to your Ultegra or your 105!
Dura-Ace is simply a byword for quality IMHO. I'll admit to neving having used Campy or SRAM, but TBH I wouldn't want too as I simply love Dura-Ace. Nothing ever needs tampering with between services, it simply works, but it works beautifully. I only got this crankset to replace the compact that I had as I wanted better gearing as my fitness improved.
Yes it's expensive, (especially if your having to buy a full Gruppo, ouch!), but I've always found that the old saying, "you only get what you pay for" is more true for cycling parts than anything else.

Simply the best
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
"Every ounce of effort I put into this chainset gets transferred to the back wheel. 2,000 odd miles in and the wear on chainrings is minimal. You look after this product and you will get years and years of top performance. The best chainset on the market for the money."

Simply The Best
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Lightweight
"This chainset is the end result of years of research and testing. They are remarkably light, feel totally solid under power, gear changes are smooth and they are set to last a lifetime. It is amazing that Shimano's engineering is such that these cranks comfortably out perform all but the most exotic of carbon alternatives (and none of those are nearly so robust)"
