Avid FR 5 Brake Levers

Power and Control in a deceptively simple package. Making brakes that slow down a bike is easy. But making them light, powerful, efficient, adjustable and ergonomically perfect for your hand takes a lot of experience and smart design. That's the stuff that Avid® makes look so easy.

Solid brake lever
Pros: Adjustable, Comfortable, Great Value, High Quality
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"This is not your cheap plastic lever when you hit the lever against the wall or your bike falls, and then the tip just breaks. No. This is one solid lever in which you can adjust it as you like, and it's the stiffest lever that I've tried. Have been using it with BB5's and have been faultless since day one. For 1.5 year I haven't had any single problem with them."

Pros: Great Value, Lightweight, Good Fit
"Got these to replace customers original Avid lever that got broken in a accident (car v bike). Customer well happy with replacements and for the price, I would recommend them as direct replacement levers."

Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"Very light, easy to fit, and with a good mechanism for retaining the cable nipple. One minor weakness is that the spring isn't very powerful. I realise that most of the spring should come from the brakes themselves, but a little bit more power up at the lever-end would be useful for overcoming friction elsewhere in the braking system."

Excellent value brake lever
Pros: Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight
"I bought these when I converted my commuter bike from racing to flat bar. There are more expensive levers out there but for basic functionality and price I don't think these can be beaten. They are very light weight and can be mounted on the bar either way round. The cable is easy to fit and there is plenty of adjustability for lever distance. Apart from the barrel adjustment for brake pad distance, that's it; but what else do you want. The lever is just the right length and shape and there is no discernible flex under heavy braking. Thoroughly recommended."

So good I bought 2 sets
Pros: Durable, Rugged, Adjustable, Good Fit
"I purchased one set for my single speed trainer and then ended up buying another for my daughter's single speed uni hack. Nice reassuring clicking noise on release and work really well."

Excellent value, easy to fit
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Adjustable, Good Fit
"They fitted nice and easily and they operate my canti brakes just fine. The instructions seem to indicat that they are only suitable for a limited number of brake types, and mine were not one of them, but it does not seem to stop them doing the job."

Great value
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable
"Brought these to connect up to BB5 calipers, and they work a treat. A nice little upgrade over the stock brake levers that came with my bike. I don't think spending any more money would have gained anything for me."

Great value
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"Put these on a Profile Airwing OS Aero Bar as part of a single-speed convertion of my old RockHopper. Bit of cajoaling required to get them round the bends but these are great quality levers for the money. Functional with suprisingly good braking power. Can't go wrong for the money."

Light and Lithe
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight
"Purchased for a rebuilt XC/FR bike, to go with Avid BB7 mech-brakes.
These levers are a very fine quality, light and strong. Once hooked up to the calipers (w/ Shimano XTR brake cable kit) the most noticable difference was the effort it now takes to apply brake lock.
One finger braking under any conditions. Confidence inspiring and totally worth it."

I will buy these again - soon
Pros: Great Value, Lightweight, powerful, great sound yes i do mean sound
Cons: no cons as of yet
"these levers surprise in every way. For the money the quality, weight and stopping power are fantastic. I replaced a set of XTR's lever/shifter combo, stopping XTR V's and I was surprised by the improvement. The nicest things about this lever though is the the noise it makes when you release the lever. It makes a lovely "Tink" sound every time, very satisfying."

Good lever for budget price .
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
"Bought the FR5 levers as I upgraded from the Shimano V Brake 8 speed integrated lever with shifters. Better feel and braking with the new levers and light too. For the price I don´t think you can beat it and its still a quality product.Yes its a bit old fashioned design but works fine for commuting or regular riding . Used with my simple Tektro V Brake you can do stoppies if you need to and can brake with little effort. ..great buy"
