Continental Grand Prix 4000 Road Tyre

The new reference standard for racing tyres and the successor to the highly popular Grand Prix 3000 now has 20% less rolling resistance and an even lighter weight. The new puncture resistance! The all new Vectran Breaker: belt, developed and patented by Continental, surpasses even the famous puncture resistance of the former leader in this category, the GP3000. The extremely strong Vectran fabrics are more flexible and lighter than all other puncture protection materials. Vectran offers more resistance to cuts than Aramid, is five times as strong as steel and features less weight than a nylon double breaker. It also maintains strength in the wet. Vectran is used in extreme sports applications such as sailcloth for offshore competition yachts. It is also used by NASA to make airbags for absorption during lunar landings. The new compound The black GP4000 tyre options feature the revolutionary Black Chili compound whilst the coloured options use advanced Activated Silica Compound (ASC) to increases the handling threshold and reduce the rolling resistance of the Grand Prix 4000 compared to the previous ASC compound. A new anti-cracking formula prevents UV light from damaging the compound and increases the mileage performance. The new tread features new tread wear indicators to help riders gauge the life of their GP4000 tyre. On the one hand you don't lose mileage performance by prematurely replacing the tyre and on the other you don't risk safety by using the tyre beyond its tread service life

Great road tyre!
Pros: does exactly what a tyre should!
"Bought these bad boys after suffering puncture nightmares with Conti Ultra Sports then rolling (slowly!) on Specialized Armadillos to avoid the punctures, which they did very well I have to add. The GP4000's were a compromise between the two, they have a good level of puncture protection (300 miles now and not a single flat!) and also offer little rolling resistance while being nice and grippy on the corners. I've been caught in a couple of downpours too and they performed great in the wet. All in all, no complaints at all, I got the blue ones and would definetely get another set once these are spent. Excellent."

Great all-round tyres
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality
"I have just bought a new set of Conti GP4000 road tyres for my Cervelo RS road bike, beacuse I was so happy with my last set. The last set did easily 5000 km over two tri seasons and plenty of winter riding. during this time the punctures were minimal. They have these cute little wear indicators so you dont replace them unnecessarily. For a reasonably light tyre they are really resistant to punctures and cuts. Some people I ride with have had splits and side wall failures on their tyres but I have never seen this with the GP4000. They are more expensive, but in the end they are good value for money in savings of tyres, tubes and your time fixing the punctures."

Bombproof!
Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: hard to get on!
"Not the easiest tyre to get on (had to take it to my local bike shop to get fitted!) but once on you probably won't need to change it.
Have recently completed a couple of 100km+ sportives and while numerous others were dropping like flies by the roadside fixing punctures, a 14 stone lump like myself was racing over potholes and glass but nothing could break them!
Seem to be fast rolling as well, so good for an all year round tyre it seems..."

Conti GP 4000 tryes
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, colour range, sizes
"I have run Continental GPs on my bikes every since changing out of a very nasty set that came on my first bikes wheels. The GP 3000 at the time in 700 x 23 came in some nice contrasting colours to the frame and offered a superior amount of grip even in extreme conditions (mud on the lanes in some cases).
Im a few bikes down the road now and have spec'd these tyres with every build now they offer the newer GP 4000 where the grip level again has risen and the size and colour option increased. The 4000 also has tyre wear dimples so you know when the tyre is at its end rather than getting to canvas and puncturing. I now run Conti GP 4000 700 x 25 on my commute bike with a unique reflective side wall for those dark morning and night rides."

light but puncture prone
Pros: Attractive, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive, puncture easily
"My previous tyres were Specialised Armadillos, which came with the bike. As it was the first road bike I had had in a long time, they felt super fast and light. They did me through a whole winter riding on country lanes, gravel tracks & cycle paths and through towns, without ever letting me down. I rode through mud, over thorns and even on ice without ever coming off or having a puncture. There is still life in them after 2000 miles or so.
When I put the GP4000 on they did feel lighter and faster - though that may have all been in the mind - but they certainly weren't as tough. They were especially vulnerable to thorns, and punctures became a regular occurence. not such a problem in summer but for winter I have taken them off, as I don't want to be changing a tyre at 7am on a dark country lane in the rain on my way to work!
I did like the reflective silver trim.

Fast tyres
"Very pleased with these, fast, held the corners and stable (even whilst braking hard and making a sharp u-turn in wet conditions it was still stable as began to slide).
Nice ride too.

A Great all round tyre
Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive
"I have to say I am a big Conti tyre fan, before these I was using the 3000's and these are equally as capable. Not the lightest tyre out there but for all round riding, whether audax or Sportive these tyres do the business and as far as I can remember I have only had one puncture on conti tyres in the last 3 years...hoping for many more solid miles....just remember to stretch them a little before you try and fit them....just to save your thumbs!"

Value for money
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"Compared with other tyres that I had been looking at, these Continental GP4000 tyres were the best value for money. An unreal tyre with good grip in the wet and low rolling resistence. I would recomend to all."

Good Tyres
Pros: Lightweight
"I've noticed that these tyres roll better than my previous ones. Not used them long enough to comment on durability. Hard to fit on my Shimano 105 Rims. Hopefully fit better on the Ultegra rims."
