Cateye HL-EL530 and TL-LD1100 Light Set

Using one ultra bright white LED within Cateye's patented Opticube lens, this light has an output in excess of 1500 candlepower and a maximum 50 hour run time! The EL-530 sports a stylish gunmetal lens housing and includes a magnetic switch, making it totally waterproof and weather resistant. No other led light offers the same level of all round visibility as the TL1100. Cateye's Opticube technology is combined with 10, yes 10, ultra bright red LEDs for unparalleled brightness - incredibly, this light is 80% brighter than the previous king of rear lights, the LD1000. 6 LEDs face backwards and 2 are positioned on each end - each row can be independently controlled through 4 different modes for a total of 16 different combinations.

Not cheap, but worth it!
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"The headlamp has a very strong beam, excellent for unlit roads, and with extra brackets for each bike, it is easy to transfer to other bikes.
The rear light has two rows of either steady or flashing lights (with separate switches for each row - excellent power, and with a great fitting to allow it to be attached to rucksacks/jackets, etc.
This is definitely the best light set I've ever bought, and I've bought quite a few!!

Well worth spending the extra
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"Great set of lights. Some may think they are expensive, but if you want to stay alive then it's not a tough choice!. Front light has a great beam, no flashing modes, but then when it's this bright who needs it. Rear light has two rows which you can set at different modes. You can also check the rear light is on easily when riding due to the side lights."

LIGHT PROBLEM SOLVED!
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value
Cons: Bulky
"These lights provide the best light output for the dollars I have been able to get. The headlight unit is as good as you could want while I am amazed at the battery life I am getting. The variable attachment method means I can swap between all my bikes different size handlebars without a problem.
The rear light has high output while giving coverage of over 180 degrees so you are definitely more visible from more angles.
Regards.

Popular Great Performer
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Good Fit, High Quality, Versatile, good battery life
Cons: Expensive
"This is a really good set for being seen.
I use this set in combination with a 700 lumen front light, as I ride on unlit roads. If you are serious about riding at night then invest in a proper (expensive) front light in addition to this set.
I disguarded the plastic sleeves that came inside the battery compartment of the rear light, they made batteries fit too tight.
I recommend use with rechargeable NiMH batteries.
Rear light is amazing for direct and side visibility and will illuminate your cycling buddy if they ride alongside you. Expensive compared to the Blackburn Mars 4 that you can get now. It can catch legs depending on where it is fitted. I recommend fitting according to saddle position or via an optional extra rack fitting. I recommend the TD1100 to everyone who cares to listen.
Front light is a bright spot, very little outside of that, good for being seen, but not to see with. Though I was very happy with it until I bought my big front light. I still recommend it for a low end front light compared with the alternatives out there at the same price."

Broke but replaced
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Adjustable, Good Fit
Cons: Bulky
"Brilliant bright lights. My front light arrived first without a front light mount and then went out when I hit the first pothole.
Wiggle were brilliant even though there was a problem only with the front light they replaced the pair, Both times. I have three back lights and one front light plus a spare front mount now.
The front light could do with being a bit less bulky. The Smart front light looks better.
My previous set lasted a year befoe the bulb went. You can,t get replacement bulbs.

Brilliant rear light
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Unadjustable, Poor Fit
"One of Cateye's best rear lights - however, only the usual seat-post clamp supplied. A bit mean of Cateye not to supply alternative mounting brackets. A smaller diameter clamp for the frame or the rear rack would have been useful."

A good general purpose set, well worth the money
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"A good quality set overall. The rear is particularly bright and the front is good enough for urban use. The open road or out of town areas need a more powerful front light in my opinion to enable you to avoid the pot holes in time. Nothing better for the money."

What you need to be seen
Pros: Durable, High Quality
Cons: Bulky
"LED technology is advancing quickly with brighter lights consuming less power and I felt my commuter bike was ready for an upgrade to something brighter and more visible.
My last three sets of lights have been cateye and I have been very happy with them.
The lights are very easy to fit and the brackets have not changed for the last few years - which meant that they actually clipped straight on to my old brackets.
The front light is bright enough that you can actually see where you are going - there are some sections of unlighted road on my commute aNd I can now see and avoid potholes.
The front is full on or off only ( no flashing mode) so I have a smaller flashing light next to it, which I think catches the eye of drivers.
One negative is that the front light is quite bulky so I tend to take it off when out on day trips but it's quick and easy to take on and off.
I would recommend these lights to anyone.

Great set of lights
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Rugged
"The back light is the best I've ever had. Really good knowing people can see you from the side when you're navigating roundabouts in heavy traffic. Good to turn on just half the LEDs when you want to save battery. (Still a bright as most other lights).
The front light is also great. Very bright and the waterproof seal is good as my last lights corroded on the inside after too much cycling in the rain. Would be nice if the bright spot in the middle of the beam was a little more spread out, but there is still a decent amount of spread. Good for commuting, even without street lights, but would not be good enough for any off road cycling in the dark.
Only minor issues I could think of are it's possible to accidentally turn the lights on in your bag if carrying them."

Cateye HlL-E530 & TL-LD1100 Light set.
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive, Poor Fit, poor provision for mounting options.
"Expensive set but both work very well and might even save your life this winter riding in less bright early evenings. You spend money on what you think is necessary and worthwhile, I am happy to spend a bit more to get quality products which are useful.
One small issue which is common in all rear lights, they are all primary design to mount on the seat post, that is mostly taken up by small bike bag which carry the basic essential for emergency eg. Puncture repair kits of Alan keys etc. The bracket for mounting should also provided for the thicker bike frame rather than just the slim seat post. I put in rear light in the back of my helmet!

light set worth buying
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality
Cons: rear reluctant to turn off
"Rear light gives off amazing amount of light and you will most definately be seen, but it is so reluctant to turn off, dont know if its a faulty set or its just how they are. Front gives off enough light to be seen.
Worth the price in both looks and functionality.

Excellent purchase!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Adjustable, Good Fit, easy to attach, easy to remove
"Delighted I chose to purchase this light set. I already have a smaller, cheaper set but think it is always wise to have two sets. I would throughly recommend this light set. I commute to work daily and this set is perfect for the dark early mornings and late evenings."

does the job
Pros: Adjustable
"back light is excellent. front light perfectly fine for city riding, and on smooth roads without streetlights; you'll probably need something stronger to feel really confident of avoiding all potholes on rougher roads.
very easy to switch the lights between two bikes."

Bright but broken
Cons: Expensive, Low Quality, Wears Out Easily
"I bought the Cateye HL-EL530 and TL-LD1100 Light Set
a year ago. The TL-LD1100 is great. The HL-EL530 is poorly designed. The push and twist fitting of the front lamp assembly on to the battery compartment needs quite a lot of force, but the very smooth surface of the front part makes it difficult to grip. Multiple connectors have to line up as the two parts are twisted together and something is obviously not quite right with mine because the lamp often has to be opened and closed multiple times to work after the batteries have been replaced. After a particularly difficult battery change one of the locking lugs broke off and now, although the lamp still locks shut it doesn't work without pressure being applied, so £50 worth of light is now useless. I have been using AA rechargeable batteries, so it's possible that alkaline cells might not suffer the same problem, but I can't really see why. The magnetic switch seems to be a gimmick and can easily be turned on accidentally when stored in a bag, leading to a flat battery when you want to go home. Summary - Back light is great. Front light has nice bright beam, but is poorly designed and easily broken.
