Northwave Mission ATB MTB Cycling Shoes

Northwave's distinctive red and yellow oval signifies original character, innovation and tremendous passion for all things cycling. Cycling is a world focused on grit, willpower and fatigue. A world of people who live to experience the raw feelings of the wind, the rain, the sensation of speed and sweat on their body. And great sense of pride in their equipment is common among cyclists.

Good comfy SPDs
Pros: Comfortable, Good Fit, Great Value, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: not as light as other shoes available
"I bought these shoes as my first clip-on shoes ever, and was looking for something more comfortable than straight out race style shoes. I have an extremely wide foot, and these shoes are wide enough that I was able to drop down one size in length (I thought I was a 45 in a Shimano shoe, Im a 44 in Northwave), and I have the perfect shoe for me.
The shoe is flexible bending the toes upwards, but very rigid going the other way, which helps them for cycling and for walking. They arent the lightest shoe out, but the friends with performance SPD shoes all say mine are much more comfortable, and there is only minimal performance loss with mine. They are good for walking, but as they are shorter than a normal sports shoe, my toes butt up against the shoe every now and then. One of the cleats also scrapes the ground occasionally, so I have to be careful on a polished surface floor. A very comfy shoe all round, I may upgrade to something lighter and stiffer as I get more into competitive XC racing, but these will likely stay as my commuter shoes for some time.
I ordered on a Wednesday, and the shoes arrived the Wednesday after, delivered to Australia. I paid $90 Australian for them, plus $6 for priority shipping. This is just over half the price of what the local stores are charging."

SPD walking shoes
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile
"These are great - love them! A pair of shoes that when on the bike feel like bike shoes but when walking up the steep bits (or the scary 'we're all gonna die' downhill bits) they actually have great grip and feel like sturdy trainers.
Combining a proper MTB SPD shoe with a vibram sole - genius!!
Fit is good, fit well over thin socks in summer but have enough volume to cope with waterproof socks for winter."

great, versatile all round shoes
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"been wearing these pretty much every day for the last few months, far more comfortable and wearable day to day (can ride to work and hang out in these all day) than anything else i tried on. The wider toe box is probably the secret to their success. Even grumpy bouncers have let me into places wearing them (although it was clearly quite dark :)
vibram sole speaks for itself, i'm keen to take them further afield touring and hiking, though clearly there is some compromise in the stiffness v padding so they're not as comfy as your favourite old hiking shoes...
not the stiffest or most performance orientated but stiff enough for me, any more would make them far less versatile."

Northwave Mission ATB MTB Cycling Shoes
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Adjustable, Versatile, Good Fit
"I'm a bike commuter that also likes to get off-road and muddy, I wish the balance was the other way round, but life's just not fair! These shoes are ideal - comfortable to walk in and Styled well to not be too 'bikey', so are great for the commute, while giving great support and power transfer from stiff soles to be effective off road."

Very small sizing
Cons: Poor Fit
"These shoes were nicely made (if a little heavy) but the sizing is very odd. I am a 9.5 UK mens size, and I bought a 44 EU mens size which should be ample, but I could hardly get them on my feet. They are quite narrow too. Be very careful what size you buy. It cost me a fiver to send them back (so factor that into the value equation)."

Solid performers
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Adjustable, Versatile
"Totally new to MTB and shoes so wasn't sure what i was getting into. Looking at the reivews, i was reassured by these northwave guys, and the deal was good at the time.
Turned up in good time, as always with Wiggle, and attached the cleats i bought as well.
Work well with my bike, and clip in and out easily enough, and the shoes are good enough to go walking about no problem.
They are a little narrow for my wide feet, but not uncomfortable."

Great shoes
Pros: Great Value, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Good Fit, wide fitting
"Fantastic shoes, stiff enough for cycling and comfortable when off the bike walking. If you have wide feet these shoes are spot on, plenty of toe room, and if you do wear extra thick socks your feet don't feel cramped. Not too heavy considering they're not a out and out cycling shoe."

Not So Solid
Pros: Great Value
"I ordered these due to the good sale price & the relatively plain design as I was going to use them for commuting/wearing at work.
Was a bit disappointed with the uppers, they're much flimsier than I expected and therefore decided to return them (the soles are robust enough though so they'd be a better purchase for summer/dry weather use).
The 3 for performance is just a 'straight down the middle' rating as obviously I haven't used them."

Good Shoe for a First Timer
Pros: Attractive, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: not waterproof
"This is a good shoe, looks are as good as the photos on line, it was sold at a good price well below the competition and as a cycle shoes it performs extremely well. Oh and Wiggle were fantastic sending to BFPO in super quick time.
My only points of note for a buyer to consider before checkout are it is not waterproof at all so you will need overshoes or Sealskin socks and the size is a touch tight, all my shoes are 44's and there is no spare room in these little puppies for thick socks. The positives though are that the lack of water proof capability means good cooling in hot climates (I live in Cyprus) and the tightness means my feet are solid in the cleat so all the drive goes through the peddle.
Would I recommend them to a friend, yes without question."

BRILLIANT SHOE!!
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit
"These shoes had a baptism of fire when I rode them for the first time on an extended 9 day trip through very rugged wilderness. The trip included lots of walking off trail and over 50 river crossings on the bike. Off the bike they feel like everyday walking shoes. They are extremely comfortable shoes and have plenty of toe room at the front for my wide feet. At this price they are unbeatable value. The Vibram sole will last forever!
I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"Well the first outing for these shoes was a nice cross country run through the Surrey Hills after a week of rain. To describe the conditions as muddy would be a lesson in understatement.
On some of the climbs the muds was so deep, due to being well and truely mixed up, angel delight style by some heavy equipement driving up and down the bridle ways doing maintenance work. The bike would come to a complete standstill and it would be time to fall off and push. Walking in these conditions the shoes where comfortable and always clipped straight back in once the glue was cleared.
Full marks to Northwave, I've been using their road shoes for a while, these are my first pair of mtb shoes and they already feel familiar and comfortable.
The only downside.. well being very picky. My toesies got a little wetsies on the post ride hose down of the bike. Bad hose controls as much as anything and when I bought them I knew they were not being sold as waterproof. So as I said; being really picky."

Dissappointed
Pros: Attractive, Good Fit
Cons: Low Quality
"One family bike ride (i.e. gentle pace on cycle paths) and these shoes have proved of very poor quality and certainly not upto being sold as "Shoes - Cycle Offroad".
Construction materials not suitable for the supposed use having split across the front on first use. Wouldn't last 5 minutes in a real offroad ride."

Good but.....
Pros: Adjustable, Durable, High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive, Limited Color Choices, Poor Fit, Unattractive
"Quality sole and outside finish. Shade of brown feels very man made - would have preferred a more natural look - shiny bits down side don't feel right for the shoe. Pedal clip works fine and can walk around ok. Velcro gives good close around foot. I ordered insoles some time back but not arrived yet - should improve comfort - however inside not well padded - just feels ever so slightly uncomfortable in the toes despite the size fitting foot fine. Good down stroke power but just a little 'loose' on upstrokes for me. Overall do not look as good as picture simply because they look too 'posh' - black would probably look absolutely fine - I fancied brown as intend for summer outings and off to Tenerife shortly to tackle a large mountain! Quality in build but flawed in some areas"

Good compromise
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, Versatile, grippy sole
Cons: Limited Color Choices, leaky, hot
"I needed some touring / treking shoes that would cover everything i.e. no other shoes would need packing. So far these have fit the bill. They are reasonably stylish and easy to walk in. They have quite a flexible midsole so long days in the saddle mean slightly sore feet compared to road shoes. When I bought them only brown was available, but I think black look better.
No regerets.

Great for Wide Feet
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality
Cons: not so good when v cold (just wear 2 pairs socks)
"I have horrible wide, bunion-feet and always struggle to find normal shoes that fit properly let alone cycling shoes. I bought these after trawling the reviews because it looked likey they would be on the wider side of normal. They are, and they are BRILLIANT! Just did about 25 miles off road in them today and my feet don't hurt at all. No rubbing, no pressure on the old bunions - brilliant. I also wore 2 pairs of socks because it was sooo cold this morning.
The only down-side I can think of is they are not hugely warm because they have a lot of mesh on the sides to keep your feet breathable. I expect they'll feel even better in the Spring/Summer.
On the plus side - and there are lots of plus bits, loads of room, they look wicked on (much better than the piccie) I also use them to commute to work and they are comfy to walk in too (no cippy cloppy noise and not too slippy either). Strongly recommended particularly for fellow boat-feet people!"
