Abus granite lock

"Based on several previous locks this one blows them all out the water. It is much stronger better designed than other locks which you can tell straight away from the weight of it. As the weight's a bit it comes with a fixing for your bike but i just stick it in my bag everyday for going to uni and its fine. Only problem I've had is that due to the length it will fit fine through the rear wheel and frame but cant fit the front wheel in with it, so if i wanted to secure the front wheel id have to carry a second lock, but i do believe you can get a different version exactly the same but a bit longer.
A rule i've seen in many places is that you should pay around 10% of the price of your bike or more on a lock for that bike."

"I bought this lock after researching d-locks extensively. It was rated as one of the best and now I know why. I am able to leave my bike locked up almost anywhere and be reasonably certain that it will be there when I get back.
The lock is relatively lightweight even compared my cheap £20 D lock but looks very sturdy. It feels secure and the supplied attachments fit to the frame well."

"This is not yet another lock, this is *the* lock! I moved to London 3 years ago, and I had to have two stolen bicycles before realising that there is no point in spending less than £20 for a lock, whatever the value of the bike. Therefore, my third bike, second hand, valued £60, has been secured with a lock worth more than the bike itself. And guess what? I'm happily riding it after more than one year!
Definitely suggested, and a U-lock... is for life!"

"This lock is solid and well-made with some thoughtful security features. It comes with a decent mounting for the bicycle frame, though it took me a couple of tries to find a good position for it because it is rather large. Large enough to go around your frame, rear wheel rim and the anchor point. It is heavy as are other D locks of this size, but I carry it around mounted on the frame with no bother. It comes with an LED-light key which is handy in the dark corners of the bikeshed. It has not been tested by theives yet but i would expect it to resist well. I think it is decent value for money given its quality."

"i was using middle of the range bike locks and almost had my bike stolen. so upgraded to this lock together with a city chain x. i still have my bike :)
Like the city chain x (see my other review) when it rains the water can get in the mechanism making it a bit sticky but much less so as the mech has better protection. i've found that so long as you shake the water out of the lock when its wet then i have no problems. would definitely buy again but doubt very much that i would need to as i there are much easier bikes to steal."

"You don't have to be an engineer to realise the quality of this lock. I have a Trelock D-Lock that's about 10 years old and a couple of cables, but when I recently bought a new bike for commuting and shopping I felt it was time to invest in the latest technology. I can't fit it to my frame because I also have bottle cages, but as I generally use rear pannier this isn't such a problem."

"I bought this lock 2 years ago. And althought it held up quite well, it's since been made redundant by my New York Kryptonite Fhuggedaboutit. To me, there is just no justifiable reason to carry this lock around."

"I bought the 23cm version and it will go around a pole and the frame but not the backwheel as well. I use it on my mountain bike and combine with a cable to go through both wheels. While no lock is completely theft proof, it makes my bike a lot harder to steal than others around it - which means they have to REALLY want my bike or they are going to choose a softer target."

"When it first arrived I notice immediately that this lock is somewhat very heavy. It weigh approximately 1.5 Kg. While the weight is a negative point on mobility side (i.e. carrying the lock around with your bike), it also provide an assurance that the lock is more robust that other u locks out there. This lock is a must for those people that have to put their bike in an area with a high statistic of stolen bike. It is definitely a good investment."
