Neat, small and cleverly designed
Pros: Attractive, Good Fit, Great Value, Lightweight
"I wanted a small, affordable pannier for my hybrid commuter bike that didn't involve buying an expensive extra rack and this pannier was just the ticket. It fits perfectly onto my existing rack, didn't cost a fortune and although it's not exactly "quick release" you can still take it on and off quite simply. It uses small plastic clips to release it from the rack so if you have very cold hands or weak fingers I could see this being a little tricky to use, however I've not had a problem with it.
Basically it has a base plate affair that straps onto the rack and then you clip and velcro the pannier onto the base plate, which seems to be quite secure. If you put too much weight in it and then throw the bike around hard it can slip round slightly, but you have to really go some to get it to do this. The lid closes very securely and even on the most bumpy ride nothing is going to jump out of it.
It's not designed to bring back a weeks shopping from sainsburys, but is ideal for the extra waterproof, sandwich box and bike repair/tool kit that I have in mine most days. With the added flap down bags at the sides you can actually fit a surprising amount of kit into it if you need to.
It has a very clever carry strap set-up meaning that once you've taken it off the bike you can carry it over your shoulder rather than having to lug it around in your hands.
As I've not loaded it up and taken it on and off hundreds of times I can't comment on it's durability. However, if in a few months time it starts to unravel at the seams I'll be back on here to add to my review!!"

Most excellent bag
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"Ample room, pockets that fold out to make bigger room but fold away magically when not needed.
Simple velcro strap fastenings to attach to any make of rack.
Well thoughtout excellent useful bag.

Not Altura's best design
Pros: Durable, High Quality
Cons: Unadjustable, Unattractive, Not Enough Features
"Bought the Altura Postpak for my wife's bike and loved it, but needed something that attached to a rear rack for mine and got this one.
It's good quality, sturdy, and well made, but has a number of shortcomings ...
The main compartment has no divisions, and the side pockets are taken up by the expandable panniers, so you've really only one large compartment with nowhere to put wallet, keys, food etc. that you don't want to rummage around for.
The expandable panniers are a nice idea, but in practice they are too small and flimsy to carry much, and just take up what could otherwise be useful side pockets.
The semi-hard cylindrical construction doesn't hold its shape very well, but cannot expand or mould to the occasional larger item.
I didnt like the ferocious velcro that holds the bag to its base and the lid shut - clips and zips would have been preferable.
The 'clever' strap that doubles as carry handle and shoulder strap doesn't do a very good job of either.
Last but not least - the boxy cylindrical shape just doesn't look good on the back of a bike - a moped maybe!
Overall a disappointing product in terms of function/design, but can't deny it is well made and quality materials. My advice - pick one of the other Altura products instead!"

rack bag
"The bag is good and sturdy, hard plastic sides keep its shape.
Strong buckles (so far - been using it for a month) and velcro base sticks well to the base strip (which stays on the rack permnantly).
Holds my packed lunch, a jacket and a few other wee bits in the main compartment. Fits 'over trousers' or similar in a side pocket with a bit of extra room.
Its a bit heavier than I expected but thats probably because of the plastic inner, so its worth it.
I use a rack that fastens onto the seat post and find it difficult to put the bag onto the base as the saddle gets in the way, if I had the seat any lower it just wouldnt fit, a rack that fits onto the bike frame may be easier.

Functional and Versatile
Pros: Adjustable, Durable, Good Fit, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons: Expensive
"A great bag for daily or occasional use because of the mounting bracket. Velcro and buckle system makes for easy removal when necessary without dismantling the whole affair or getting yourself covered in mud from the back wheel.
Fold down panniers are a great addition for those days when you need just a little bit of extra space but they do not have a great deal of support to them, so capacity is limited.
Well made and practical but I would hope so for the price.

I like it
Pros: High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"Bag seems to be well made although I have only done 100km with it so far and it is probably too early to really tell. Stays on bike well and is great for just throwing things in. It also feels good not having to wear a back pack."

"Brought so I wouldn't need to wear a backpack on full day cycles. Plenty of room for all your stuff. Attached and removed from pannier rack very easily. Fold down panniers very handy for storing wet waterproofs so they don't have to go into the main compartment with your dry gear."

Great item
Pros: Adjustable, High Quality, Lightweight
"Fantastic rack pack, far better then a rucksack for the usual cycling kit, and the drop down side panniers are great for the odd bit of shopping on the way home or for waterproofs, etc. Only slight thing is that it can move around on the rack sometimes, even when tightened with the velcro straps, but still it has to be one of the best items I have bought for my bike. It is quite expensive but it is definately worth the extra money over cheaper ones."

Handy rack bag!
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile
"This has been one of the most useful accessories that I have purchased for my bike. A handy size, that fits almost everything and even when it doesn't, there are side panniers to fill. It velcros and clips onto the rear rack with ease. It has never fallen off, or wobbled, or got stuck. Moreover, my things have remained dry in thunderstorms and snow. I could not cycle and live without it!"
