Altura Night Vision Waterproof Jacket 2008

The Altura waterproof jacket is an ideal jacket for those dark winter nights riding to work and back and with the added bonus of the reflective strips on the panels and the trim, you are sure to be seen. The jacket is constructed from Altek fabric and is very breathable thanks to the arm and back ...

Excellent for commuting
Pros: Durable, Good Fit, High Quality
"I bought one of these about 3 years ago for the daily commute to work during winter, it is excellent for that use and has not let me down at all. The napoleon pocket is good for the Ipod etc , it has zipped vents under the arms to keep you cool.
whilst being good for the commute I wouldn't wear it on longer runs as it doesn't breath well. and you would cook in it . Some of the reflective panels are peeling off but it has seen some foul weather and been through the wash many times.
When visibilty is required this jacket is awesome , I see lots of other people wearing them. Seperate pockets on the rear would make it better as it only has one large one ,which allows items to slide about which is awkward whilst on the move. All in all a very good jacket

Great buy for commuting
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, Lightweight
Cons: could do with another zip pocket
"I have only used this jacket a couple of times and find it to be excellent. I already own a similar Altura jacket but wanted the hi-vis one for commuting. I was sceptable at first about it being black but did not want to walk round in a bright yellow jacket(looking like a fool), It certainly makes drivers notice you when hit by headlights due to the amount of reflective strips. I even use it when out walking. It is wind proof and splash proof and strong enough to take the crashes I experience regularly. The zips on mine are all still functioning fine and the chest pocket is ideal for an mp3 player.
Altura have cut this to be a nice slim fit which really suits riding but also does make for a good aprés ride jacket too that doesn't look bad in the bar."

Altura Night Vision Waterproof Jacket Black
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, waterproof front pocket
Cons: could do with some side pockets
"i already had the day glow yellow version of the jacket and loved it! its seen me through many a winter evenings riding and saved me on the odd occasion from the dreaded busses and dotty driver!
so summers here and i saw the black version in my local cycle shop! i loved it but it was £75!! i emailed Wiggle, they price compared to another cycling website and arranged delivery for a few days later!
the jacket is fantastic and looks stunning in the black! its highly practical with reflective strips and infact the whole jacket lights up when light reflects off it!
i will still be using the day glow jacket for commuting but for my social and pleasure riding i will certainly spread the work on the black jacket!"

Commuting not racing
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Rugged
Cons: Bulky
"Far too bulky to fit in a jersey pocket, this is a decent commuting jacket that'll keep you dry.
Can get a bit hot and sweaty if you're going for it."

"Great jacket and packs down reasonably small if needed.
With lots of washing its gradually starting to shed the reflective logos and bars, but its done me well and i'm still really pleased with it. Would recommend this to everyone who commutes.

Style over substance
Pros: Comfortable, Good Fit, Great Value
Cons: not waterproof
"I really like this jacket and want to rate it higher but unfortunately it's not waterproof and not very breathable.
I have had mine for a year now and use it daily in the winter months for commuting. I bought it in black so I could use it as a rain jacket off the bike too, it looks good and the reflective bits work well on the bike. The fit is perfect and it's surprisingly warm, even on the coldest days a long sleeve base layer under this jacket is all i need to keep my body warm, and the fleece collar keeps all the winter chills out.
It has lasted well and seems to be fairly durable as most days I'm either wearing it or it's stuffed into my rucksack, it cleans up as good as new after washing.
Unfortunately, it's not waterproof and should really be described as 'showerproof' also I didn't find it very breathable even with the vents fully open things still get steamy on my commute, although I haven't got anything to compare it to I suspect I'll need to splash out on Gore-Tex next time.
Overall not bad value for money but letdown by not being waterproof."

Dry but Warm!
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"Excellent jacket would buy another in an instant.
Only thing I would say is that on a hot day prepare to sweat!
The vents help, but you do get a tad warm, but don't let that stop you from buying a top notch item."

Good entry level jacket
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile
"This a good jacket, I bought in black so it doubles as a normal water proof jacket. The front pocket is completly waterproof so you can store your mp3 player in it in total confidence that it will remain dry"

Rather disappointing
Pros: Adjustable, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: not very breatheable
"This review is of a replacement jacket ( 5 stars to Wiggle for that bit), since the front zip of the original broke after 9-10 months.
The jacket is a good design, with plenty of length in both the body and the sleeves. The front zip is waterproof, and snag-free (the problem was the puller bit breaking). The front pocket is fine for keys or a phone.
The waterproof material is made breatheable by a coating rather than by a laminated layer, and it certainly keeps out the rain. The long side zips provide a good means of ventilating the jacket, and if this were the original, I would say that the jacket was a good alternative to a more expensive laminated model. However, I suspect that the fabric of my replacement is not the same as the original, since I now find I get a lot of condensation rather quickly.
The mesh liner helps to prevent too much sticking to flesh, but it does not take much time for the inside to feel quite humid - and I don't remember this being the case before.
I bought the black version, to avoid looking too bright when walking around town. Whilst not as visible in daylight, the reflective patches are very effective at night. I notice that one arm is slowly losing some of the transfer, however, presumably due to my using a rucksac. This has happened on both jackets, although it is not a major problem.
To sum up, although I quite like the actual design, I wouldn't buy another coated waterproof jacket, but spend more on one made from a laminated material for the extra comfort that brings."

Like sure deodorant.... keeps you dry!
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Durable, high visibility
Cons: Bulky
"I've had a black nightvision for a couple of years or so. Here are my thoughts...
Pros...
Highly reflective and very visible despite being black and looking great.
The reflective parts seem very durable unlike other jackets I've had.
There are pockets at the chest and on the back which are waterproof.
Large vent zips on the sides let lots of air in and can be used as a makeshift pocket on the off occasion.
Velcro tabs on the cuffs.
Elasticated neck and waist for fit adjustment.
Cons...
I've had two, both of which the main zip handle broke. I stole a cloth handle from an old jacket to fix it as the rest of the jacket is just too good to pass up.
A little bulky to carry on those changable days but considerably better than lightweight waterproofs.
If you want to stay dry, be safe and look good at the same time, this is the bad boy for you!"

Excellent Jacket, highly reccommended
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, waterproof
"Just been to Center Parcs for a week in Torrential Rain .... and this jacket performed fanatstically well ! It's definately waterproof and windproof - 5 stars on both counts! It's also lightweight and breathable so it's not too hot for (British) summer use ! Excellent jacket, highly reccommended. Used it for Biking as well as jogging so multi-purpose too."

Altura night Vision Jacket
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality
Cons: n/a
"This item fits well & looks good, has vents to open so I have been wearing it in the heat of the british summer (thunderstorms) Velcro on the cuffs stops draughts up the sleeves - I can't wait for the darker nights to try out the visibility"

"Having posted a review for some overshoes i thought it was time i moved up in the world.Normal i ride fast and try to look good it in summer sun.
Well there are more months of rain than sun thats where this jacket comes into its own having seen a mate knocked off on a roundabout in a bright yellow jacket not this one of course i brought the above because of the reflective features and so did he.We ride together twice a week and use these in all but the warmest of weather there great, good ventilation, good fit not to sporty but enough room for an extra top if you feel the cold ,waterproof pocket on the front for a mobile phone should blind car driver not notice you in this well designed top but as i said eariler we've done over 2000 miles in these with no complaints leaks or accidents !!
Take our word for it buy one & stay dry & alive!!

Good looks - short life
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Great Value
Cons: Unadjustable, Wears Out Easily
"Initially, very impressed with what you get for your money. It's hi-vis, close fitting and reasonably weatherproof.
The velcro on the wrists is sized for the more ample gentleman, but i suppose a bit of a gap helps with a bit of breathability.
After 3 months daily wear though, my night vision looks like I've had it for 3 years. The reflective tape is peeling off at the back, defeating the object of having it at all,( and I haven't even washed it yet!). It seems to absorb dirt, and with the reflective stickers coming off in normal use, you may as well pull them off when you get it - or buy a jacket that doesn't have them.
For the money - a good buy, but not likely to last."
