All round tyre choice
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive
"Have been using using Vittoria Rubino Pro but found they were not the fastest running of tyres. Before that had used Michellin Pro, which though much faster rolling but just didn't last on our rough as guts NZ chip seal roads. But getting back to tri and Ironman racing I wanted something fast again. Had looked at the excellent Vittoria Open Corsa CX, but negative reviews about their longevity put me off. Next best choice looked like the Conti 4000S. And so far they have lived unto their great reputation, I run these with Michellin latex tubes and they roll wonderfully. Put about 2000k's in training and absolutely no flats. Couldn't be happier. Easy to install on both Mavic Kyserium and Reynolds Strikes. Run them at 120 psi and the ride is super smooth. Would find it hard to change to another tyre after these."

Continental GP400S
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit, good grip, good stability
"I am not an A Grade rider but I am an older rider who likes to tour.
For controlled comparison I used 90Km circuit, where the first 28Km contained two 8% to 9% climbs and another half a dozen climbs that varied between 3% and 5% of inclination. This was then followed by an 8.5Km climb (and descent) of 6% average (which contained two pinches of 8 to 9% of inclination). The next 30Km contained climbs of between 2% to 4% and the last 15Kms contained a 12% to 14% climb of about 2kms in length.
My comparisons are using the Continental GP4000S as a rear tyre (115psi) and a Michelin PRO3 Race (110psi) as a front tyre, I have previously used the Michelin PRO3 Race (115psi) and Vitorria Diamante/Zapphiro (120psi) as rear tyres, I wanted to see how they compared to eachother and the following are my thoughts ...
Spinning Up ... The Michelin PRO3 Race is superior. With the PRO3 Race I found that I could ride the 8.5Km climb in 2nd and 3rd gear and with lower cadence if required whereas with the Continental GP4000S I was using 1st and 2nd gear and using higher cadence to ride at the same speeds. With Vitorria Zapphiro was 1st gear all the way, and while using higher cadence, I couldn't match the speed of the other two tyres.
Rolling ... The Michelin PRO3 Race is superior though the Continental GP4000S is close. The Vitorria Zapphiro is again a good margin behind these two tyres.
Grip ... Continental GP4000S is superior though the Michelin PRO3 Race is close. The Vitorria Zapphiro is again a good margin behind these two tyres. The GP4000S feels very stable, especially on downhill descents, which is very reassuring. While the PRO3 Race feels a little twitchy. Perhaps this is because the GP4000S tyre seems to absorb the bumps better :-)
Durability ... Continental GP4000S and Vitorria Zapphiro are superior. The Michelin PRO3 Race was noticably worn even after 90Kms when compared to the other two, with the bead on the centre of these tyres still showing after the ride.
Puncture Ressistance ... Continental GP4000S and Vitorria Zapphiro are superior. With the Continental GP4000S I ran over broken glass, which I missed with the front tyre, but clobbered with the rear tyre. I thought that the rear would puncture for sure, but it didn't and when I checked it at a stop there wasn't even a mark on the GP4000S tyre (very impressed). Even though the Michelin PRO3 Race front tyre missed the glass it had a small 10mm mark on the side of the trye. Don't know if I was lucky or not but I was very impressed with the GP4000S.
Comfort ... Continental GP4000S is superior. It is a very comfortable tyre, even at 115psi. My backside certainly voted for this tyre. The Michelin PRO3 Race is also comfortable but the Vitorria Zapphiro is not comfortable.
Fit ... They fitted easily to my Pro-Lite Bracciano Wheelset
Value ... I haven't decided yet, but I do like this tyre. It is comfortable and reasonably fast. I will let you decide ...
My summary is that if you are not worried about punctures or comfort then for racing the Michelin PRO3 Race is a good choice, but if punctures and/or comfort are an issue then for racing, touring, and general commuting the Continental GP4000S is an excellent choice. If you are really, really worried about punctures then there are other tyres :-)"

I LOVE these tyres
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"The name brand tyres that came with my new (and first) road bike wore out astoundingly quickly, so I started looking around for alternatives.
I was after a hard wearing tyre for casual road biking. Wasn't too fussed about rolling resistance, etc. I decided to buy a set of these, and have never looked back. I'm now onto my third set, and I couldn't be happier.
They are quite grippy, even when wet and they don't seem to be too bad in terms of rolling resistance - possibly not in the same category as true racing slicks, but wow - these last a lot better! Yes, I'm onto my third set, but the fact I keep coming back says a lot. I get a lot of kms out of them, and it's not necessarily on the best roads (also one only needed to be replaced due to some pretty heavy sidewall damage when I had to launch my bike off the road into gravel to avoid having an accident).
With most products I usually tend to give a wide variety a go before settling on my favourite, but I've been so impressed with these tyres I wouldn't even think of trying anything else. if you're a casual cyclist after a hard-wearing road tyre, I would sincerely doubt you'll find better than this."

Who knew tyres could be this good?
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I have always appreciated a good tyre.
But prior to purchasing the GP4000S, it is now clear that I had no idea what a good tyre was capable of.
Tyres are the sole part on the bike in contact with the road. It makes sense therefore that the quality of your ride corresponds with the quality of your tyres.
I used to ride on Gatorskins and they are great tyres with very good puncture resistance. A priority characteristic for me as a commuter.
The GP4000S has however made my ride about ten times more enjoyable. These tires have incredibly low rolling resistance, the level which speed is sustained when not pedalling is incredible. At the same time, the tyres have excellent grip which seems to run contrary to the low rolling resistance.
With the Gatorskins, I could read the road like Braille, but the GP4000S make the ride much smoother. The tyres feel tacky as though they stick to the floor, it's quite unusual but you'll know what I mean when you ride them.
I'm unsure about puncture resistance in the long run but so far so good. It's been about 2 weeks and I've encountered a fair bit of glass on the roads in Melbourne thanks to all the drunk bogans out there. No punctures yet.
A compelling tyre. I'm sold. I won't be using anything other than these for awhile."

Awesome tyre!
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality
"Having tried pretty much every high end tyre out there I've finally settled on the one to live on all 3 wheelsets - the Continental Grand Prix 4000S. It's quick, corners like a dream, looks uber cool in stealthy all black and best of all in the last 6 months I've used them not a puncture in sight!
For a combo of high quality at an incredible price you can't go past these babies!

Really comfortable, rolls clean
Pros: Comfortable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"I'm happy with this purchase. Was choosing between this and Pro3. My old tires were Lithions, which I felt were quite sturdy (lots of aborted punctures), but had to replace due to bad luck on a big slice from glass. Pumped at 110 PSI and matched with the superlight Continental tubes (30 grams lighter over ordinary inner tubes - based on my wife's baking scale...). Tires themselves weighed practically the same, With this setup, tires feel grippy, comfy and easy to roll. Compared to the Lithions (1.5 years old) they were more comfy at 110 PSI. Could be because the 4000s were brand new (still had thicker rubber and thus allowed for more cushion). Used to pump the Lithions at 90 PSI, at that pressure it was quite comfy without being heavy to roll. But the difference in grip/stickiness of the Conti vs my old Lithions is substantial enough to be felt. Can't comment on durability as I've had them for less than a month. No complaints. Really smooth. I like it. Will probably try PRO3's next time to get a first hand comparison. No probs installing on my Campy (Khamsim) rims. I use it for training to and am enjoying every ride!"

Top end tyre at med range price
Pros: Attractive, Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"Being a rider who rides regularly in a social group as well as a daily commute I'm always looking for tyre that meets my requirements for grip, puncture resistance, rolling resistance and price.
Previously I had only used Gatorskins but now I'm officially converted. The very slight compromise in puncture resistance and moderate price jump are more then worthwhile for the increase in grip, and speed that the GP4000S' give.
Definitely worth a go!"

GP4000S takes the checkered flag
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"This tyre is simply the best. Be it for training or racing I never swap my tyres! Why would you when this tyre has the BEST grip in any conditions, best puncture resistence of all the top line road tyres and the wear is unbelievably good - over 5000km.
With tyres having only millimetres of contact with the road this has to be the most important accessories for you bike. Whether you are doing a 30km/hr training ride or on the rivet doing 50km/hr round a corner... in a race... in the wet...
Why woulde you go with anything else!
Continental invest massive amounts in R&D and this is the output. So next time you think "it's only a tyre" remeber "It's all about the tyre!"."

They stick like glue
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, High Quality
"This is my fourth set of GP4000s and I'm unlikely to switch to any other tyres now. I've experimented with various other premium race tyres prior to this and these offer the right mix of weight, comfort and durability that I'm after in a tyre. I've also used the regular 4000s and reckon the Black Chilli does indeed improve the grip. Oh and the tread wear indicators are a nice touch too. I find if I change them when they "tell" me too, I avoid the old "puncture count going up must be time for new tyres!" indicator!"

Well worth it
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"Had my bike just over a year, had my fair share of punctures on the factory fitted tires. Had a big ride comming up so.decided to get some new ones, after reading reviews, I went for the GP4000s and glad I did.
Just finished my 180 mile ride and these tires are so tough they still have the seam down the middle. No punctures and they roll soo well.
Do not hesitate..if you're thinking of new tires, these are the ones."

Very Good Tyres
"purchased them to replace my old Kenda's as I wanted something a bit more speedy. I have been out on them a couple of times now and have noticed the difference already. They are noticabley faster and feel more grippy in the wet ( one day it rained quite hard!) giving me more confidence when cornering.
They were quite easy to fit ,so no problems there.
All in all very pleased with them.

Fantastic Road Tyre
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Lightweight, Good Fit
"We changed from the Michelin Tracker, having done a 150km dirt ride in NZ, and it was like going from a Ford to a Ferari. They roll and grip beatifully and give a very comfortable ride. Keep the pressure above 100psi for best performance. No punctures yet although we have tried hard with glass and pot holes. Bit of a bugger to fit but worth the trouble."

Best race and training tyre out there
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight
"I have been through several different tyre brands and the GP4000S have been the pick of them. Durability is good and they grip well in all conditions. I am trying the 25mm version on the back to help with cornering at speed and better contact with the ground when sprinting."

Conti GP 4000S Road Tyre
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive, Wears Out Easily, poor puncture protection
"Can recommend them for 100% dry roads. Puncture protection appears poor - small sharp stones will easily punch through the tyre e.g. stuck in a rill. As soon as the tyre gets wet (even for a short period of time) chances raise massively that this will happen. Conti GP 4 seasons are way better in that respect. May switch to those entirely as the Surrey Hill roads are always full of sand and gravel."

"Wow. First new tyres after the Bontrager R1's that were fitted as stock. Am shocked as to the difference. Had no idea tyres could make the whole bike feel different on the road.
Within the first few hundred metres it was apparent that these tyres (vs the others), made the bike feel smoother, more accurate, they seem to roll better, and generally it feels like riding a different bike (in a good way).
As you may gather, I haven't sampled a wide range of 'good' tyres, but I am definitely a fan of these so far."
