Decent light
Pros: High Quality
"Front - good main beam, fairly good visibility to 45° but not to the side, and no flashing mode. Good enough to cross the park! and with a reduced power. Rear - Very bight directly behind not stunning to the side or 45°."

Reasonable front light, brilliant rear light
Pros: Durable, High Quality
Cons: Bulky, Not Enough Features
"Front light: I should have paid more attention to the spec. Didn't that it wouldn't have any flashing options, which I always prefer to have. Bulkier than I expected it to be. It is pretty bright though so I can't complain too much.
Rear light: Absolutely briliiant. Oversized LED's are so bright. I've got one of these lights on each of my bikes. Only one thing to bear in mind. Cateye don't seem to include a belt clip anymore so if you're planning to hang it off a saddlebag you'll need to buy a clip separately.
Generally a good set, just let down a bit by the front light."

Great lights
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"Nice bright white light for front, with dipped and full beam, and bright red tail light with choice of flashing or steady lights. Lightweight, not too large, easily fitted to bike. Rear light can be fitted to the frame rather than under the seat, which is handy as I have an under-saddle bag. Good value too."

Decent set of lights but not perfect
Pros: Adjustable, High Quality
Cons: Expensive, Not Enough Features
"This is a good quality set of lights and I would echo most of the previous positive comments however would have liked a flashing mode on the front light and I am personally not mad about the attachment mechanisms - they are ok but not great."

Good but know what you're getting
Pros: good if you don't expect too much
"I've reviewed the rear light separately so won't review it here. This review pertains only to the EL520 front light.
This light is almost bright enough to use as a single source for night riding, although I wouldn't advise it. It's best use is for when you want to be seen at night, because the blinking mode really is quite bright. In the regular non-blinking mode, it has a tightly focused beam with a bit more diffusion than previous models, so you'll see the beam and a bit of what surrounds the main focus area of the beam, and it seems to have more power than previous models too. But, in my opinion, it isn't strong enough or bright enough to light a large enough area ahead for safe night riding. If you're purchasing a light to use for rides at night in poorly lit areas or rides of over a couple miles, I think you'll want something more powerful.
The light comes with an easily installed mounting bracket and the light is easy to attach and detach from the bracket. It is the same mounting system used by the previous models so if you have the old bracket you can use it to switch the light between two bikes. Also, it requires 4 AA batteries but they seem to last a long time.
So, the light is great for being seen, just don't expect it to be good enough as a sole source of light for safe riding at night. I really like this light when used in combination with a second system or for short night rides of maybe 1 or 2 miles. But for longer rides at night or frequent night commutes, I'd suggest you get a more powerful system."

Great if you just want to be noticed.
Pros: Adjustable, Good Fit
Cons: poor range, limited front light
"I purchased this set recently for my daily commute.
The back light is brilliant and I like the different modes and it is very bright. The fact that it can be seen from the side is also very good.
The front light is not that great. If you are looking for a light to make yourself more visible then it is fine but I don't think it can be used as a light to illuminate the road adequately. The beam will need to be quite short and by the time you see the pothole I think you will be in it.
The front light has 2 modes "bright" and slightly less bright but the difference is hard to see. There is no flashing mode."

A first class light set
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged
"In late October I am riding the Southern Tier route coast to coast across the U S A and needed a light set that is strong reliable with a front light that can light up the road ahead very adequately and a back light that can be seen easily as the nights will be drawing in quite early, and many of the roads will be unlit .
After reading reviews I decided to go for this particular set and have been more than pleased with the results. Not only does the set give off a very good light their ease fitting and operation is a definite plus. . Having used them several times now I know that they are just the job for the American trip.

Great lights
Pros: Great Value, High Quality
"Have used these a few times now. They seem great. The rear light is very bright and is going to make you nice and visible, and the front light is bright enough to cycle by at night in unlit areas.
Not really sure about the two brightness settings on the two lights - doesn't seem to make too much difference - though if it preserves the batteries..."

Pros: Great Value, Rugged
Cons: poor waterproofing
"the EL521 was great, but the rear light (TL610) did not have any waterproofing on the battery compartment, so water got in and ruined my rechargable batteries.
Buy the front light on it's own and find an alternative rear light. Wiggle were good and gave me a refund, so I bought the Cateye EL530 And LD1100 Light Set instead. These have a far superior waterproofing."

At last. A front light to fit my road bike
Pros: Adjustable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality
"I've recently purchased a road bike, mostly for weekends, but sometimes to commute on. I was under the impression I'd be able to simply transfer my light set from another bike, but no...
The Ritchey handlebar is too thick and having tried numerous alternatives I found the Cateye EL520! Wonderful news.
The bracket is easy to fit, easy to adjust and fits comfortably on my handlebar. The rear bracket is flexible to allow you to rotate for vertical use down the seat stem.
Lastly, the lights are powerful with a couple of settings for battery conservation."

Very Brighy Lights
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, Lightweight, quick release to remove
"These lights are very bright. I live in the countryside and often cycle down unlight dark lanes and I have no problems seeing where I'm going. In fact I have had cars flash me when I've inadvertently had the front light angled too high. My firend who I cycle with has ordinary halogen lights which next to the Cateye LED Lights may as well not be on. And the best thing with these lights is that the batteries last for ages too.
Winner all round.

great for the winter nights
"Got these for the winter for commuting. Good battery life and bright enough for the unlit parts of the journey.
One "pro" i liked - to switch off you have to hold the switch down for a few seconds - i never inadvertently switched it off
The only "con" is the adjustable fittings, i did find that these did let the front light slip when going over some rough stuff & i couldn't get it tightened enough.
The front light has two levels of illumintation, the back has a steady, flashing and random setting. I tended to use the random setting and the lower beam (except in the unlit parts). excellent battery life."

Great rear light
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Not Enough Features
"I though the front light would flash, but it's a fixed beam. The rear light is realy great so I use it. I've left the old Cateye front light on the bike which suits me."

Top quality set of lights
Pros: Durable, High Quality
"Probably a little over spec for city riding in general, however an excellent set of lights. They do have a habit of turning themselves on transit, the on/off buttons could be a little harder to accidentally activate in a bag or loose in the pocket.
I would recommend for anyone being extra safe in the city environment or poorly lit country roads"

Cateye EL520 And TL610 Light Set
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Good Fit
"These lights provide a good level of lighting at a reasonable cost, the front light isn't a floodlight but does illuminate the road ahead sufficiently to actually see what may be on the road, and the rear lamp is brilliant , very bright and just what I needed"
