"I have had this little light for over a 12 month. It has proved an excellent purchase. It produces a powerful white beam of light which can be dipped and will run for several hours on one charge. Alternatively you can switch to the 'flashing mode' which is an equally bright pulsing beam of light which takes many hours to dischage the battery. The recharge process is quick and easy. I use it in daytime conditions and I have noticed how much more quickly motorists are aware of my presence. As a consequence I feel much more secure when approaching junctions."

Date: February 4, 2010 Safer night riding
Pros: Adjustable, High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive

"I ride along a dark canal tow-path for much of my ride home, then in thick traffic for the final two miles. With this light I can see every obstacle beside the canal and avoid the few pedestrians who venture out in dark clothing. Back on the road I switch the light to flashing mode and even the most myopic car drivers give me a wide berth... No bulky batteries, it's a very compact unit. I wish it was a bit cheaper, but safety at night is worth a lot."

Date: January 26, 2010 Nice light and price, shame about weak bracket
Pros: Great Value
Cons: Poor Quality

"I have bought and used two Cateye EL600 Single Shots as night and also day lights for daily commuting.

I rate the light's performance - especially given th eprice - but one of them has sheered the light units bracket on the underside, rendering it useless for anything other than a family pocket torch.

To be fair, this happened after a year of use, and I didn't attempt to exhange it as I didn't have the receipt and was dubious that a bank statement would suffice for a product over a year old.

So, watch out for the bracket. You have been warned.

"Having used this light twice on very early morning rides,I have found this light shows up the road very well, and is very safe, but it`s value to me is that I can be seen klms. away ( in flashing mode). It`s very reassuring to know you are seen out on the road."

Pros: Attractive, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight

"The right size, weight and light output. Got fed up with changing batteries so bought this. Well made with a good bracket and easy to operate with gloves on. Haven't had it long enough to assess how long each charge lasts but seems to last well on flashing mode so far. Very bright blue white light is perfect for being noticed and the steady high beam is good enough for dark cycleways. I wouldn't want to rely solely on it for night use off road though."

Good battery life when trickle charged overnight. I have two on my bars for the really dark parts of my journey to and from work, and when in town i have one on flash mode which woks well."

Date: October 31, 2009 Good but not as good as I hoped...
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: not bright enough for unlit roads

"I bought this light on the basis of the test images that were included on the website a while back. This light appeared to throw a really good and wide beam on radk roads, and because some of my commute involves unlit sections of road, i needed something that would allow me to see, as well as being seen. And i couldnt afford to throw £200+ on a light. So I opted for this.
Firstly, the actual quality is spot on. It feels solid, rugged, weighty without being heavy. And the settings are excellent- a sort of full beam, then a less bright "dipped" mode, and then a flash mode. Full beam eats up the power, the others less so. But a full charge leaves me confident of a full weeks worth of commuting, especially if I "dip" the main beam. And the bracket has, thus far, been excellent- simply attach it, tighten it up, and leave it. The light clips on and off as and when you want to use it. Ok, it looks a bit on the hefty side, but I didnt buy it to bling my bike up, I bought it to see with. And this is where the problem lies- it just isn't as bright as the images suggested it would be. Maybe I was guilty of overestimating the power of a sub £100 light, but this is the only disappointment, however it is to me a substantial one given the routes I ride when commuting. It's plenty good enough for the cost, but if you really want lights that allow you to see on those dark unlit roads to the extent that you feel you can ride safely without having to worry baout not seeing something in front ofyou before it's too late, , it might be worth splashing the cash for something pricier...

Date: October 28, 2009 Bright - but not clever
Pros: Durable, bright
Cons: difficult to fit lamp to bracket, iffy battery?

"This is a bright light which certainly gets you noticed and makes you feel safer when riding in towns at night. The bracket is easy to fit and easily adjustable. There are some downsides: there isn't a really audible clunk to let you know when the light is correctly seated, and once when riding down a bumpy hill the light fell out as I hadn't quite pushed it in hard enough. Fortunately it survived, so extra points for durability! The light is also pretty stiff to remove from the bracket, and doesn't seem to be loosening up much with time (I've had it about a month). My other gripe relates to the battery, which is not of huge capacity. For reasons that aren't entirely clear, if the battery is below a certain level of charge the light simply won't switch on. This happened to me once when it had been charged 2 days previously and used for less than an hour in flashing mode. Fortunately I had a backup light with me and would urge potential buyers to do the same."

"I bought this due to a 30 minute commute through unlit country lanes to my nearest station. It lights up the road extremely well and I have to set it to the dimmer setting when facing oncoming cars as they will be blinded otherwise. It is very lightweight and easy to charge up while sitting at my desk in the office. Highly recommend."

Date: October 23, 2009 Good but not outstanding
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Poor Fit

"I was looking for something in between the the cheaper, safety only lights and the high end, £100+, high power, rechargeable lights. I needed something for commuting mostly in the city but also on some stretches of unlit cycleways through parks and off main streets etc.

It throws out a good amount of light but not enough to use by itself on unlit paths. The battery life is great but the charger unit which blinks red/green to indicate need for charge can be temperamental - best read the instructions thoroughly before first use.

The light itself feels very robust and the rubberised bits are very tactile.

One niggly issue is the attatchment to the bike. The light should be quick release but on my unit you push the button in, and it doesnt slide off easily, you have to really pull the thing off, or wiggle it a bit to get it to release.

Its good, but thats what i expect at this price and from a maker like Cateye. Just not outstanding.

"I wanted a rechargeable LED light that was bright enough to illuminate occasional sections of my commute which have no or little street lighting. Whilst probably not suitable for off road use it does provide sufficient illumination to see the road immediately ahead (so no collisions with the kerb). Battery life appears to be ok.
If you don't need to have the limited illumination of the road this light gives but just need to be seen there are cheaper alternatives.

Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive, Poor Fit

"It's bright, easy to install, relatively eco-friendly as it's rechargeable but for this money the fixing bracket is fairly poor. I have a standard diameter handle bar so it should pose no problems but as I remove the light and re-attach it every day the bracket moves. Albeit a small amount but enough to require some Wiggling to ensure targeting of the beam.Other than that it's bright and whilst it doesn't scream at drivers to get off the phone or leave their coffee at home it does grab attention and hey, that's what I want."

Date: September 18, 2009 Hmmm. The blooming attachment
Pros: Attractive, Lightweight
Cons: Poor Fit

"The light is ok and does its stuff but the attachment clip/strap onto the handle bars is poor. My handle bars are slightly tapered and it keeps slipping/cannot keep it tight enough. Even if on cylindrical handle bars I wonder whether this plastic-strap type attachment really works (it may do?).

Sliding the light out of the holder also seems to require a disproportionate amount of effort - and causes the strap to also slip round.

The recharging point is covered by a rubber plug which in turn pivots on another rubber plug. This latter easily came out of its socket and I cannot get it back in.

... maybe it is just me.

Date: July 22, 2009 The only front light you'll ever need
"I've been using the EL600 for around two years now for mostly night or winter use and in that time I can't fault it. The beam can light up a street up to around 50 metres at full blast but when commuting I usually switch to blinking mode. For me, a single charge is good enough for about 3 weeks use.

One minor point is the Flex Tight bracket (the bit that fits onto your handle bar) can loosen over time and the light may droop downwards when riding on bumpy surfaces. I bought a Cateye H-32 Reversible Bracket for a couple of quid which is much sturdier.

As most Cateye products, it's a name you can trust. Great light that's kept me seen and I really light the flashing mode for around town.

I use this light with the Blackburn Mars 4.0 rear light and feel so safe in the dark.

The only downside of it is knowing when it is fully charged; it has a habit of glowing green prematurely.

"The battery life delivers as promised which is a key feature for me. The light is powerful enough for mid-winter riding down country lanes and I get at least 4 rides out of each full charge before the light starts to dim.
The hand-tightening fixings are a real bonus.
The unit itself is solid and good looking and the price is fair. I would definitely recommend this light.
