Cyclefilm The Trilogy Vol. 3 La Marmotte DVD

The Trilogy concludes...Every ride must come to an end, and there's no better place for 'The Trilogy' to conclude as it climbs the infamous 21 hairpin bends to the summit of the legendary L'Alpe d'Huez. Highly regarded as one of the toughest Cyclosportive events on the calendar, and covering many i...

All the info you need to ride the Marmotte
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, entertaining
Cons: presentation skills
"The Marmotte has long been a goal of mine to ride (and finish)! When I finally felt fit enough to sign up, I still had doubts and wanted to know more about the route. I bought DVDs from Cyclefilm before (Etape du Tour Recon DVD) and gave this one a try together with the other 2 Trilogy DVDs. Although it doesnt include as many 'cultural' segments as their latest productions, it's still a very well put together DVD with all the information to prepare you for the mountains. Since I've never ridden Galibier or Alpe d'Huez, this film really got me in the right state of mind before taking it to the road. I think this was Michael Cotty's first DVD with Cyclefilm since his presentation skills are not quite as honed as in the other DVDs, but like I said, all the info is there and I enjoyed the scenery while spinning away on my turbo."

"Planning on cycling the Alp in summer. After watching this I was out in the snow on the North Yorkshire hills. Can't wait for summer and France."

"Easy to watch but with some nice features - bullet cam. Disappointed that it didn't have chapter selections to allow easy navigation to sections of the film. More detail could have been added to assist with the context - such as maps, profile etc."

Not one to watch again and again
Pros: it's the route of the marmotte
Cons: not really enough to keep attention long, commentary is tedious
"I bought this DVD for two reasons. The first was to recce the route of the mountains I would be cycling a few weeks later on a trip to the Alps with a friend, the second was to use as a relief to boredom whilst on the turbo trainer. On the first point, I got to see the route and the stunning scenery, but the commentary by 'Cotty' is weak and a little self-obsessed. As a turbo trainer distraction, I would say buy one of the green umbrella DVDs instead, the quality of production is much better and they are far more exciting. If you are after something to watch again and again, avoid this one, but if you want to see the route of the Marmotte once before riding the route for real, I guess there is not really another option. I won't buy the others from the trilogy."
