I have transported my mountain bike with oversized down tube and road bike with oval crossection, securely with no trouble at all. Best of all the clamp is so easy to apply via the dial at the bottom of the unit.

Security wise the clamp lock seems very theft proof but i still use a flexible cable lock threaded through the wheels and frame when going on extended journeys - you can never be too safe.

build quality is very good and it still looks good even though it has been on the car for over a year now and never been taken off. I suppose another plus is that it fits both regular bar roof racks as well as thule ones.

only down side would be the price, but you pay for what you get and if you look about you can get good deals.

Excellent Roof Carrier

"This is a high quality roof carrier. The arm and mechanism make it much easier to load on the roof of a car, as the bke is stable as you tighten the clamp at roof level. It's also lockable (both the clamp and to the roof bars) which is great. The only downsides are: 1) it is set up for a left hand drive car, so if you want the bike on the passenger side, you need to move the mechanism - I haven't risked this, so the bike sits over the driver; 2) the nature of the clamp means that where bikes have cables that run under the downtube, they get compressed against the frame. The solution to this is to put the gears on the most slack setting (small ring, highest rear gear) and fit a small piece of pipe lagging between frame and cables while carrying the bike. This preevents any cable rub or cable stretch.

"This product just makes using a roof mounted carrier a pleasure. Other than being able to accomodate almost any frame (it has been used with a steel road bike, carbon road bike, titanium mtb hardtail, and 6" full-sus mtb), it's the quick-clamp and lock / release mechanism being located down by the rail that simplifies the process compared with any other rack.

The benefit of this is that one person can easily rack-up their bikes without risk of dropping a bike trying to do too much at once (everything is in easy reach).

The bike is very securely fastened with no need for additional straps (or worry!)

Also love the fact that the bike is locked to the carrier, which is locked to the roofbars, which is locked to the car (although I still use a big old cable / padlock as a visual deterrent).

Finally, they look pretty good."

"I purchased two Thule 591 ProRide roof racks after doing some research on the net. Thule are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Wiggle as ever provided one of the best prices around after comparing several suppliers and I know I can shop with confidence with Wiggle. The two large packages arrived unscathed, I was able to fit them on the roof bars of my car with ease. The bikes lock on solid (Look at the Thule video on You Tube of the bars on a rally car if you want proof of how strong they are). We are off to Spain 1st September for two weeks with Sierra Cycling, a 3000+ mile round trip from Jersey. I will let you know how the bars hold up but so far they appear to do the business. Cheaper options exist but if you pay several £000's for your bike there is no point in scrimping on the accessories. Thanks to Wiggle for top service and offers."

"This is probably the most expensive cycle carrier at the moment - however I went with it a. because there are alot around on cars and b. I have spent several thousand pounds on my bike, I don't want to get a cheap carrier for it. Primarily because I am heading to the Alpes with it, I wanted something reliable. I have always used Thule roofracks, and think they are brilliant. This was very easy to set up and to fit the roof rack. It's very easy to clip the bike into too, and seems very secure. Beware, if you have a mountain bike, with a front crud catcher attached to the downtube - it will not grip properly in the clamp, as I found out to my expense when my bike fell off and buckled the wheel. I feel, however, this is more operator error rather than a problem with the carrier......... ;)"

Brilliant for shorties

"This is a brilliant bike carrier, particularly for 'shorties' like me. Being able to adjust and secure the bike at roof level is a huge advantage, as it means I can use a roof mounted rack rather than one sitting on the back of my car, which left me worrying about driving down narrow country lanes. I've been driving around with the carrier on my car for the past 2 months, through snow and ice, and all the mechanics still work perfectly; whilst this does not speak for the care I take with anything to do with cars, it speaks highly to the quality of the Thule carrier. "Having already brought my first 591 from Halfords to ensure it was definately correct and worked with my bike, I did not hesitate to buy my 2nd (for g/f's bike). Its strong, easy to install and remove and my Orange P7 fits well and is stable. The g/f's Specialised Mika doesn't fit quite as well with the squarish downtube, but still fits well enough."

"Genuinely a fantastic piece of kit. Very well thought out design. Extremely simple to fit. Without doubt the best feature of this this carrier however is the stability it offers. Once the bike is mounted it just doesn't budge. You can drive at 110km/h on the motorway with peace of mind.

Locking system is also a bonus when you need to nip away from the car/bike for a bit.

Fits my Whyte 46

"Just took it to Glentress in Scotland for the weekend (500 mile round trip) and it seemed very secure. Also, everyone there who was using a roof carrier seems to have this one.

My concern was that it wouldn't fit my odd shaped Whyte 46, size Medium, but it fits nicely.

It locks to your roof bars and to the bike so that bit of security is reassuring."
