quality pad
Pros: High Quality, Rugged, Good Fit
"I reverted to these after an ill-timed foray into a cheaper "aftermarket" pad reminded me all about the concept of false economy.
Anyway, the finish is good, they fit well, they have the undeniable shimano quality and excellent product literature, and I have faith in them.
Once installed, they bed in quickly, offer good feel and are quiet in the wet compared to some others. I can't say there aren't higher perfoming pads from other manufacturers as I haven't tried them all and am hardly to be considered a braking demon anyway, but these offer enough grab to lock up front or rear on a 160mm disc on most surfaces* so quite evidently have good friction.
Cheers!
*I haven't tried on Shellgrip"

Just brake pads ...
Pros: High Quality
"These pads just work great. Being Shimano, they aren't cheap but they are well designed and easy to fit. Why, oh, why aren't they suppied with a new split pin - not even offered by Wiggle as far as I can find?"

Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Wears Out Easily
"Same as OEM pads fitted to bike when new. Work well, wear fast, but are very cheap to buy compared to to other fancy material options. Can fade a bit on longer downhills, noticed it only twice and it was a very steep descent and full of summer."

Brake Pads
Pros: Good Fit
"These are the only disce brakes I have ever had so I can't really compare them to anything else. The first set lasted 9 months throguh all weather being used 4-5days a week over all terain. I haven't had any complaints about them."

Original - but not the best
Cons: Wears Out Easily, weak braking
"For those who need resin pads - to prevent heat transfer, you have to expect your pads to wear quickly. Best price I've seen for originals - but other brands brake harder and last longer"

Direct replacement for factory fitted pads
Pros: Good Fit, Great Value, compatible
Cons: Wears Out Easily
"Shimano M485 brakes have limited choice of pads because they use mineral hydraulic oil. This has a lower boiling point than DOT oil. Using sintered pads -which produce more heat- risks brake fading.
These pads are not sintered and are therefore safe but at the expense of a shorter lifespan. There are specialised disk brake pad retailers that sell sintered pads with heat insulation. These are worth considering for those who cycle a lot and don't want to change pads often."
