Soap is terrible
Cons: Low Quality
"I have had problems re-proofing my jacket after using this stuff. After looking into it, it turns out that soap is an old fashioned way to wash your cloths and does not work in anything but soft water!!! Medium or hard it doesn't work and leaves more rubbish on the jacket than it washes off.
Tried using a proper detergent sports wash (not Daz, Percil etc) and all happy and proofed properly now."

Does the trick nicely
"My cycling waterproofs had never been washed... and were starting to take on body odour. I washed with this, then a second wash with the Nikwax waterproofing. They now smell great and are fully waterproof. It works out very good value too. Highly recommended."

Effective but a bit pricy
Cons: Expensive
"We do lots of trail-running and hiking and other such mud-collecting activities. Non-detergent cleaner is essential for waterproofs and this does the job. seems rather expensive to me, but cheaper than ruining expensive waterproof gear I guess!"

Best product for the task
Pros: easy to use
"Which is to gently wash your costly (or not) foul weather gear, and renew its rain-repelling properties (or at least, make it bead and run off again)."

Pros: Great Value
"It cleans your waterproof gear without stripping it of it's water repellent properties. Works well but leaves a strange odour!"

Great for washing rain jackets
Pros: High Quality
"Ok, not the most obviously essential product in the catalogue, but if you want to reproof your rain jacket you should first wash it with this stuff, before washing with the rainproofing Nikwax product.
Used this many times, and the combination of the two does work - the first ride out after washing, you can see the raindrops running off the coat not soaking in!"

"This product is useful as a pre conditioning prior to rewaterproofing but isn't too good at removing stains so I would recommend doing a normal wash first and then using this to remove detergents."

Good but expensive
Cons: Expensive
"This is good for washing waterproof clothing as it stops the waterproofing being washed out. My only complaint is that it doesn't last long as you are only meant to wash 2 garments at a time. I've found soap flakes to be a cheaper alternative."

Effective
"Nikwax Tech Wash works well and empirically appears to do what it says. I use it on Analogy, Gore-Tex & eVent.
There's a 4 year expiry date and it was supplied with all of this remaining, unlike other retails who try to get rid of stock approaching expiry, which has caught me out before."

Try Ecover Delicate instead!
Cons: Expensive, funny smell
"This product does a good enough job of cleaning, but it leaves a slight smell, (similar to old school soap bars if you are old enough to remember those), which is off putting, and it's expensive. I have found Ecover Delicate has almost the exact ingredients and is a lot cheaper and what little smell it has seems natural. I bung all my kit in the machine together with Ecover. I tried this with Nikwax and it leaves streaks all over my base layers."

Effective Outdoor Clothing Cleaner
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"I use this mainly for my paramo kit but have also used it for military outdoor kit and found it efficient at cleaning outdoor kit. It is expensive, but as yet I haven't found another product that does the same job as well as this one. Smell is OK - neutral and not female or male orientated."
