Old man chic
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged
"As a kid I used to laugh at the old blokes and their battered Carradice bags, back bowed and buckled over their touring bikes. Baggy knees. Baggy skin.
Now that I'm 40, and much to my son's embarrassment, I decided it was time to buy my first Carradice. Like me, it was made in England. Waterproof, tough outer. Spacious on the inside. I can't recommend it enough. I went for the Barley as it is just the right size for a day ride. Cheese and pickle sandwich. Malt loaf. Two bananas. Camera. Waterproof. Map. Tools and repair kit. There's not a lot of room for much more. To be honest, I think two Carradice bags are needed - one for day rides (the Barley) and one for a longer jaunt (the Nelson?)
Don't settle for less. Buy the best. Buy old man chic. (But remember you may get laughed at by kids)
Oh, and I bought the Bagman Sport Quick Release Bag Support too."

Fantastic saddlebag

Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"I love this saddlebag. I bought the black one, together with the Bagman support, to use on a 14" frame mountain bike.
It was given a good test in October when I embarked on a week's tour around Scotland both on and off road. The main inner was large enough to take a complete change of clothing and toiletries, and the side pockets were ideal for tools, first aid kit, and other essentials. The attachment loops on the lid held my jacket and a packed lunch with ease.
There were a few days of constant, heavy rain and although the saddlebag was drenched and caked in mud, all my belongings remained dry. I was also impressed with how quickly it had dried the next morning and how easily the mud just brushed off.
I rate this as one of the best products I've ever bought. It oozes quality with its looks and toughness; it's versatile - great for commuting, day rides or lightweight touring, and I don't think it looks out of place on the back of my mountain bike."

Practically perfect in every way
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Value, High Quality
"I've had the olive and honey-coloured Carradice Barley on my Brompton for a couple of weeks now and wish I'd bought one sooner (certainly sooner than I shelled out nearly £100 for a Brompton Touring Pannier and quick-release block!) It's the perfect size for my waterproofs and lunch and I bet I could easily strap other stuff (e.g. a fleece) to the lid with the D-rings. It's only been rained on once, but performed brilliantly. The design has real traditional charm (and it looks the dog's whatnots on my Brompton) with its satchel-like fastenings and it oozes old-fashioned quality (think 'they don't make them like they used to...but wait, Carradice do!') but it also has modern features where you need them, like a loop for your rear light.
I ride a WTB She-Speed saddle which has no saddle loops. I just fastened the straps round the saddle rails and away I went, no messing.
I've been wanting one of these for a while, but always felt that I couldn't quite justify the £35 price tag. How wrong I was - I know this bag is a keeper and will probably still be going strong when I'm hobbling past the bike shed on my zimmer frame."

Handy little bag
Pros: Attractive, Durable, High Quality, Rugged
"A perfect sized hold-all for carrying tools, spares, tubes, waterproofs - whatever for a day out, or if you're like me, long early morning rides in the winter dark when you want to carry a few just-in-case extras - such as a flashlight for changing flats in the dark etc.
It is highly water resistant - I've yet to get anything wet in there - and sturdily made. It's 7 liter size is big enough, but not too big, and it is made in England, an old classic.
I've found that saddlebags such as this - and the Carradice Super-C which I also use for short (up to a week) tours - are best used with one of those Bagman frames, even if, like me, you have a saddle with loops. The frame supports the bag, keeps it well clear of your legs, there are no issues with attaching it to the seatpost and if you get the quick release model, it is dead-easy to take the bag on and off. The frames are stupidly expensive for what they are - but saddlebags are pretty handy since these very much add to their convenience it's worth swallowing the cost."

Buy This Bag!
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, extremely useful size
"I bought the Barley after using a Nelson Longflap for commuting and a couple of multi-day trips.
The excellent construction and overall quality are what I expected after using a Longflap. And it shares the Longflap's good looks. (Both bags are in green.)
My Barley has replaced a smaller underseat bag I was using on my Mercian road bike. This bag is the perfect size for a day or overnight trip. It will hold an extra layer or two, lunch or a snack and, of course, tools, spare tubes and my wallet and cell phone. And there's room for a chotchke I might find at a flea market en route, or a carton of juice or pasta I might buy on my way home.
The bag is a great value made even better for me by the exchange rate (I'm in the US.) and free shipping. For icing on the cake, my order arrived three days after I placed it."

Carradice Barley
Pros: Adjustable, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile, practical
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"the looks,
yes it looks a bit old school, with this and the mudguards on the carbon fiber bike it takes you out of the wannabee racer into the serious distance rider bracket
It protrudes out from the side of the saddle about 3 inches on either side and looks like it causes wind drag but when you are on the bike your thighs go past the bag so its not the case.
At first the little leather straps with the metal buckles seem like a hassle but you soon get used to them and having seen another 5 year old Carradice that has the nylon straps with the easier to use click in fastening I can see that this system is going to be faultless for a very long time
I havent noticed the extra weight , it can touch your legs but doesen't effect pedaling and you can always get the quick release bracket
I'm from the "buy quality and buy once" school of thought and this ticks all the boxes for me
No point it having a product that will last a lifetime if it does not perform adequately and in this respect it exceeds my expectations
It has enhanced my longer rides, if the weather changes I have extra clothing if a tyre blows a have a spare and enough tools and I can carry a camera and food of my choice and not rely on the stuff served up at some establishments"

味のある鞄
Pros: 耐久性, 良いバリュー, 魅力的, 丈夫さ, 多様性, 良いフィット感
Cons:

Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality
Cons: Bulky
"I ordered the green Barley saddle bag and Sport support rack for my restored 74 Centurion. I take long weekend rides on this bike rain or shine and I was looking for a classy bag large enough to hold my lunch, tools and a light jacket. This bag is perfect. With the Carradice rack, I haven't noticed the bag brushing up against my legs or any swaying from side-to-side as I climb. It is well made and nicely finished. The Barley may be small for Carradice, but it large compared to most modern saddlebags.
I sometimes get funny looks from the roadies racing up the mountains in their feather-weight bikes with mini-tool bags tucked up under their saddles. But the last laugh is mine, since at the top I have a nice lunch to eat while they squeeze calories out of a tube!"

Classy Bag
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile, classy, black
"This bag is pretty amazing. It's a big upgrade from a backpack or messenger bag. There's enough room in here for a change of clothes and all the bike tools and micro pumps overconcerned cyclists like myself pack around for unlikely pitfalls. The bag also looks classy as all getout and adds an air of dignity and purpose to any bike. FYI I'm in Phoenix, AZ USA: it gets quite hot here and moving where you stash your effects from your back to your bike should be the first priority for anybody who commutes or runs errands by bicycle in the sweltering inferno of summer here in the Sonoran Desert--and I imagine the same applies anywhere sweat worthy."

"If you looking for something to go with your classic/old school bike, you can't go wrong with Carradice Original series. I prefer duck green over black as black is often a view as modern color. Still made in UK. Very good craftsmanship. Highly recommended. Too bad Wiggle does not bring in green color for other models, else I would have go for Nelson."

Pros: Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Lightweight, Good Fit
"Wanted to go out for the day with all the tools, spares inner tubes, food, hot drink and spare room for waterproof/extra layer etc, and indeed carrying all of this for two. The bag does this in its stride and with little fuss.
Bought the Bagman Sport quick release to go with it, which, as many others have commented, does increase the overall cost a fair bit. However the advantages of having it mean that this was a good decision. Keeping the bag steady and clear of legs etc. are a must for me.
The quick release mechanism of the support is "top notch" design and works really well.
The bag material itself is of quite stiff construction so the outside pockets, in particular, are somewhat rigid. This does also imply that this sturdy material should score well for durability and ruggedness.
The drawstring inner top material (bit like a rucksac) helps to keep main items neat & tight

Design Classic
Pros: Attractive, Rugged, High Quality, made in england
Cons: cannot use at the same time with rear panniers
"I bought this to complement the classic English look of my Mercian King of Mercia bike with Brooks saddle. It does this very well and is a real eye-catcher. Lovely natural looking material, leather straps that wear with style, ample room for a long day ride. Also love the fact that the bags are made in England- mine was made by Sue.
The only problem I have is that the bag is a little wide and i can not use this bag at the same time as my rear pannier bags.

Old fashioned utility with style
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"I bought this to go on my Brompton, which is quite a common combination. It is perfect for carrying the everyday bits and pieces you need for a day trip - which is what my Brommie gets used for a lot more than commuting these days.
It would be less useful for commuting. If you attach it using the straps it comes with then it tends to hang down with the possible risk of the contents coming out, though that shouldn't happen if the flap straps are properly done up. I fitted a bagman QR to keep the bag upright and make it easier to take off, but the downside of that is when the bike is folded the frame sticks out."

Worth the (very long) wait.
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
"A compact bag - ideal for carrying a spare tube, some tools, a waterproof with room to spare for a bit more.
With the Thomson stem it sits a little horizontal and would benefit from a re-think as to where the opening is positioned. That said, the drawcord inside does a fair job of securing most contents. Small, loose items should be wrapped in something to guard against loss.
Now I've used it my only doubt is whether I might have chosen a larger model but I think the Barley is ideal for everyday use."
