"I really like the feel of the Carradice Nelson longflap. The hand-felt product quality is very good, special note from me for the products that are really hand made in Western Europe (UK) instead of having the traditional looks being made in low salary countries."

Test of Time
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: requires use of bagman for good fit, requires saddle with bag loops.
"I've only had this bag for a short time and i understand why people love their carradice bags so much and why Carradice has withstood the test of time.
The Nelson Longflap is mounted on my converted mountain bike withe the support of the bagman expedition. For my needs, commuting, errands, day rides, this bag is just perfect. And I love the classic stying of the bag. Unfortunately, I've not had a chance to use this bag on tours or even long, long rides. But by the way it handles my day to day cycling duties, there will be no problems.
I do recommend getting the bagman expedition support especially, if you do not like the feeling of the bag rubbing the back of your leg.
If I purchased this bag in the United States, I would have to give it lower ratings because of price. But purchased from Wiggle, I think it is a great value."

Excellent
Pros: Attractive, Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
"This bag is just plain great. Fantastic quality, ample space, and very secure and stylish. My bike's just large enough that I can just attach it to my Brooks, but the bag rubs the canti cable running behind the seat tube. Not a huge deal, but I used the Bagman Expedition Rack to get around it and the whole thing's even better! I absolutely love this bag and expect it will last approximately forever."

Retro Style perfection
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Rugged, High Quality, Versatile
"My grandfather had one of these back in the 70's on his old Rudge and I don't think the style has changed much since then.....
A really well made saddle bag that is both roomy, practical and stylish.
If looked after properly it will last a lifetime.
The longflap versions are great for when you do a little bit more shopping than you had planned.
I love it."

Nelson Longflap Saddle bag
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"This is the best buy I done in years, a real old fashioned saddle bag. I thought everything was made from Hi-Tech plastic materials without a soul these days.
But in real, this cotton is more hi-tech then all modern materials, and made from a professional who puts her knowledge and inspiration into it.
Thank you Andrea at Carradice, for taking time to make a very fine saddle bag for me, you ride with me now for years to come.

Good for a day bag
Pros: Durable, Rugged, High Quality, Adjustable
"Up until I bought this bag, I'd been using a pannier and rack on my commute. I didn't like the off-set weight of the one pannier. The saddle bag puts the weight central and it's a noticeable difference, especially on climbs when out of the saddle.
The bag is well made and the extending flap well thought out too. There's a draw string and cover to the main contents to help keep the weather out.
The side pockets house tubes and lock one side and tools the other. The main compartment is big enough for a waterproof, lunchbox and a few bits but might fill up with a full change of work clothes. As I'm a shorty and my saddle isn't up high, I bought the 'Bagman' support rack to keep the bag off the rear mudguard, thinking it would be lighter than the aluminium full lightweight rear rack I had removed, but as it's made of steel, there's only a few grams difference, so a lightweight rack offers more options. Buying the Bagman also adds quite a chunk and the bag isn't 'cheap'.
I have the bag attached to a Brooks saddle with eyelets but the QR system may be better – allowing quick removal of the bag while the bike is parked up.
I like the classic style and central position but feel that an alluminium rack and light/showerproof pannier offers more flexibility for around the same weight."

"This is the second one I have owned. I ride 12 to 14K miles a year and the bag is on one or the other of my bikes.
I like being able to carry anything I need on a day long ride. I could use it for a short tour if necessary.
As soon a Wiggle had the bag in stock they sent it to me.Good people to do business with.

"This is first time for me to buy the Carradice bag.
The size was bigger than my expectation.
But it is not too big, acceptable.
I try to ride on my bike with this bag. And I feel bike ballance is better than current. I don't know why, but it is real.
I think it may be great job by Carradice people.
GREAT JOB!"

Carradice saddle bag
Pros: Attractive, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: Poor Fit
"The bag is high quality and in my mind worth the money. Lots of space for a weekend trip (packing light).
Delivery was slow - (over 4 months) but I did recive regular email updates saying it was still unavailable.
I am not as pleased with the standard £20 bagman support. I have to use tie-raps to attach it to the saddle (as no saddle bag loops included) and the strap on the bag is really designed to strap around a single saddle post - not the dedicated support - so I think this support in not worth the money."

great bag!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged
"The reason I got this bag is because I don't want to add a rack to my bike and keep it minimal but also wanted to carry everything and the kitchen sink. This carradice is big enough for my lunch, work clothes (to change into) as well as my ipad. It's really useful and beautifully handcrafted (by Debbie, it says on my label). I really like this bag for my daily commute and would easily recommend it to anyone else.
You can also use the quick release from the bag man but I ride a strida with a sprung seat so it didn't have space for it so what I did was hook the leather loops to small carabiners that hook to my seat rail which made it a fast quick release when I get to my destination. Also the seatpost leather strap was replaced with a quick snap strap from camping stores so you can easily remove the bag from the bike in seconds. If you are looking for a bag with alot more space for a day trip or even minimal 1-2 day touring this would be it without the need for a rack and panniers."

no more sweaty backs
Pros: Attractive, Durable, High Quality, Versatile
"Generally you need saddle loops to rig this up to your saddle and get additional products (which arent cheap!) to make it detachable. Instead i simple rigged up a little wooden post that slides through the leather loops and metal loops i added to the end of my saddle on my bike. works a treat!
This is a really useful bag. no more sweaty backs (25km commute in sydney). big enough for my uni books and food with room to spare and with the extra long flap i can carry spare jumper and shoes and shorts for whatever occasion after uni. largely waterproof - on one occasion i got hit with a few big storms in the space of an hour and there was a bit of dampness coming in from where the water sprays onto it from my back tire. other than that, all dry! nice side pockets for ya phone/wallet/repair kit. It also looks great - many people have commented on that aspect of it as well.
i prefer this to panniers as i can use it on my road bike and it is actually a very nice bag to use anyway. this also means i can take my road bike out for a tour over a few days in summer (provided i pack pretty light)!
one thing id like to see (ill probably just rig it up) is somewhere to attach a shoulder strap. also, the leather straps are already looking a bit worse for wear, but they probably wont get much worse after the initial wear-in from the brand new look (if that makes sense).
i think its a bit pricey, but i can see it lasting a long time, with the appropriate care of course."

Classic and hard wearing
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"Everything about the Nelson is reassuringly old-school. They are made by the ladies at Carradice's factory in the UK, and come complete with a label signed by the one who made yours.
The thick cotton material is hard wearing and ages well. It is almost perfectly waterproof - even riding in appalling conditions for hours on end I've never had wet gear at the end.
It does need traditional saddle loops to fit, or (better) a bagman or SQR adaptor. These also help to stop any sway when climbing out of the saddle, in addition to allowing quick release so you don't have to leave your stuff on the bike.
In normal mode it has plenty of room for shorter rides or commuting. Open up the flap, and whilst it may look a bit silly you can fit everything you need for longer trips; I even get a one season sleeping bag and bivvy bag inside mine in addition to the spare parts, changes of clothes and tools needed to comfortably complete 1000km 3 day unsupported rides."

"I really like my Carradice Nelson longflap saddle bag. There are two side pockets to fit inner tubes and other things. Build quality is excellent.
I also think that saddle bag is almost complete waterproofing.
Saddlebag is a good choice when you want to carry kit for a lightweight tour."

"It's arrive on time when I will to go for a long weekend trip (over 1000 km) with my road bike. This is 100% water proof. I don't need any plastic bag as many other in my group to protect my stuff inside. The downside is it need more tool to fit with modern saddle."
