Good gear
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"everyone should wear these. Broke the neck of my femur recently in a collision with another rider - these shorts should reduce the chances of that happening again. They are well made, comfortable, look good and were great value. Haven't had a chance to test them under crash conditions but am confident they will protect my hips when the next crash comes along."

POC Hip protection shorts
Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, may not be comfortable for longer rides
Cons: Expensive, Limited Color Choices, a little large
"Bought these as I broke my hip in a slow motion accident 4 years ago. They are light and comfortable but I fear that the chamois pad is a little too small for long days in the saddle without wearing an extra pair of lycra or undershorts - something I wanted to avoid as it get's to hot. You have to wear a pair of baggy shorts over the top anyway. I've done 30 hilly miles maximum so far. Maybe they'll be better after a wash.
Can't comment on the effectiveness of the protection but I the pads seem to be a composite harder/soft combination rather than the soft pad offered by d3o.
No-one seems to produce a good hip protection short with good chamois that does need an extra inner or outer layer.

No more bruises
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Good Fit
"If you've ever fallen off whilst down hill mountain biking then you need a pair of these. My nephew was thrilled with these for his19th birthday to complete his full body armour and avoid those nasty bruises. He says their fantastic fit and protection on hips, tailbone and thighs has given him more confidence to hammer down the track at Fort William. They are so good he is thinking of replacing his other body armour with POC."
