"The Isostar gels are easy to open, taste fairly good (compared to some of the very artificial gels on the market) and are easy to swallow. Both the lemon and apple versions give a boost to performance without any lingering aftertaste, or adverse digestive reactions. Definitely my gel of choice..."

heavy going
"this stuff isn't great. tastes very chemically and has a very thick consistency making it difficult to get down when on the bike- does mean that it can be partially used then kept in pocket without leaking though."

"Tried it on the mountain after 45-60min of exercise and provides energy for another 45min. Always some liquid stays it which makes it difficult to put it back in a pocket or back."

"Bought these as a replacement to my usual High 5 products and found they make a nice alternative.
I have the lemon ones which have a nice taste and go down in a more runny form that most gels hence they are easier to swallow.
All in all not a bad product"

Pretty Grim
"They seem to provide me with an energy boost but the taste and texture are pretty horrendous. Its an unnatural feeling to have such think gloopy liquid in your mouth. The packet is an odd shape that means some of it gets stuck at the sides and its difficult to get it all in your mouth in one swift movement. The whole saga nearly finished me off."

Not bad at all

"I like the drinks these guys make so I wanted to try the gel products too.
I bought both lemon and apple. The lemon is nicer but I have to say they both bad when they get warm but I found that with most gels. Maybe someone should put insulation in the pockets of jerseys to protect from sun. (Brown bananas :)
I would only have these on longer rides and they do work."

Gloopy...
Cons: Bulky, taste
"I've been trying out a range of energy gels and liked the fact that you can just buy packs of 4 (instead of very large boxes) but I'm sorry to say, I didn't like these and can't recommend them. I had three problems with them - packaging, taste and consistency.
Packaging - instead of a normal long rectangle, these are 'fat bottle shaped' so didn't fit into my running belt. Not the end of the world I guess, but not as convenient.
Taste - I'm not fussy when it comes to the tast of energy gels but sorry, the taste (I had the apple ones) are really 'yuk'. Its like trying to drink bad concentrated apple juice with sweetener. Really strong and not good.
Consistency - very gloopy stuff and you can feel it go down like a big ball of gloop!
I'm trying to get through the pack of 4 but I think I'll just bin the 2 I haven't had."

Sticky and Sickly
"I've tried a few and this has the most sickly texture to it, i've never complained in the past about a gel being bad - but this is one.
Also for some reason I get myself and the sachet covered and sticky every single time."

lifesaver

"I have been using these gels for the last year and have found them to be a lifesaver for tired legs. I find them great for the last hour of a longer ride as they give me the kick I need to get home. You do need to drink water with them to help digestion but they are nice n sweet. I always carry them just in case I feel the dreaded le bonk coming on. Good value too."
