Zefal Lock'N'Roll QR Antitheft Skewer - Pair

They work in exactly the same way as a normal skewer, slide through the hub, make sure it's tight and then close the lever - the trick with Lock N'Roll is, when your bike is the right way up, wheels on the ground and saddle upwards, these skewers cannot be opened once locked over. To unlock them, you must invert the bike so it's resting on the saddle and bars with the wheel upwards. If your bike is securely locked upright to a post or rack, Lock N'Roll cannot be opened and your wheels and saddle cannot be stolen, yet you retain the practicality and ease of use of quick release skewers in the event of a puncture, mechanical problem or need to store or transport your bike with wheels and saddle off.

Really clever solution
"Having to remove your seat every time you go somewhere is annoying. So I bought this set so that I don't have to. Works really well. You just have to make sure the bike can't be tilted 90 degrees once locked up."

Good Purchase
Pros: great concept
Cons: some plastic parts
"Great and well thought through product. This is my second set of skewers (for second bike). I love the simplicity of the idea, much better than having a key based system which you can loose.
Only negative comment is the there are some bits that perhaps should be metal not plastic."

Seem to do the trick
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, strong
"Had these on my bike for nearly 2 years now and no problems.
I have a Marin Toscana, £800 of bike, and I leave it around very Cambridge (high bike theft) and no problems at all - though do have a good Kryptonite lock.
Just make sure you lock it to something solid that the bike can't be flipped over as the instructions say. Apparently thy can of course be broken - but the reality is that most bike theft is opportune or someone who wants an easy steal, I feel these have definitely been worth their price and some...
Just ensure if you get it back from a bike shop after a service they put them back on the right way!"

Can't complain
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Good Fit
"These do what they say they are going to do. I'm sure a determined thief could somehow circumvent them (as other reviewers have suggested) but that's not what they are for. They come into their own deterring opportunists who think they might fancy a new saddle or front wheel as they pass your bike."

Not that good
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Low Quality, Wears Out Easily
"I was initially impressed with these skewers, but after a bit of use I found the quality of the materials used questionable.
The idea is good; however, in reality these are very easy to beat. It was very difficult to get the right balance: too loose and the lever can be rotated 180 degree and, thus, opened; too tight and the metal gets damaged."

When the inconvenience outweighs the risk
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Poor Quality, Unadjustable, Low Quality, Wears Out Easily, Poor Fit
"At first glance these appear to be a really good idea to add another level of security to a bike. For the first few weeks of use there were no issues, this may be because I never needed to take the wheels off. However, after removing my rear wheel to replace a tube after a puncture, the mechanism made it hard to close. Now my rear wheel slips out of position whenever I apply any pressure to the pedal. I have tried endlessly to tighten the skewer however it seems that past a certain tightness the cam will simply not close. I'm doomed to return to the original skewers
If you feel you need this protection then I would recommend using these on the front wheel and seat post as these have relatively little strain put on them. For the back wheel, stick with standard quick releases and use your normal lock to secure the wheel."

Every bike should have these
Pros: Attractive, High Quality
"I have used other rather expensive theft proof wheel skewers however this brilliant idea beats them all in terms of price and ease of use. You can not unlock the Zefal skewers untill the bike is upside down, so all you need to do is lock it to a secure post/bike rack and the bike cannot be turned up side down and you keep your wheels. You dont have to carry around a key to unlock them so if you get a puncture your not walking home, to get the key.
I was unsure they would work so ordered one set. Tried them they fitted perfectly even the seat post levers. So now I have ordered them for my whole family (7 Bikes) and have recommended them to my friends. I wouldnt normally write a review but to stop other people from having their wheels stolen which as I know is very costly."

does its job perfectly
"These work exactly as described - you can only undo them when they are upside down. Amazing!
Don't worry about the extra weight unless you are a pro. The difference is really negligible.
Since buying these I have been able to leave my bike outside, locked only with a d-lock around the rear wheel and the frame. I feel confident that my bike is safe against all but the most determined thief."

Keep your wheels!
Pros: Lightweight, Good Fit, secure wheels
Cons: insecure saddle
"Excellent way to prevent casual theft of wheels and seatpost/saddle.
As long as your bike can not be turned upside down, the QR will not release.
Nice and light compared with the alternative (an extension cable on your U-lock) and no hassle involved - just make sure that you lock your bike in a way that prevents it being inverted.
I'm not convinced that the 3-pack including a saddle Q/R adds much value over the wheel skewers - there is nothing to prevent the saddle being removed from the seatpost with an allen key.
I would give the skewer-only set 5 stars.

Disappointed with the seatpost skewer
Pros: wheel skewers easy to fit
Cons: Poor Fit
"Wheel skewers work fine, fitted in a jiffy, and seem to do the job so no complaints there.
The seatpost skewer was much more of a faff. Wouldn't work with the clamp that I had (32mm clamp on an alu frame with carbon fibre seatpost). The curve of the lever is a real problem to match, though I got a pretty close after the local bike shop let me rifle through their odds and ends. Fitted it, but then just couldn't get the tension to stop the seatpost slipping, gave up in the end and am back to risking it.
Wish I'd gone for the more expensive lockable system, just for peace of mind."

My wheels are safe,
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Rugged, Adjustable, Good Fit
"Theres little fellows do exactly what it says on the tin,
They lock your wheels up so that they cant be stolen. i have had them on for 2 weeks now and have asked people at work to TRY and get my wheels off as we have more than once had bikes having wheels stolen from outside, and none of them have managed.
Once tightened you can not twist any part of the unit and so all in all very happy!"

Mixed feelings...
Cons: Poor Fit
"I'm kinda luke-warm about these fellas. They work - they do EXACTLY what they're supposed to - but, they might not be the most suitable for you.
The wheel skewers work fine (though it did take a couple of minutes to work out the right amount of tension and orientation to put them in (so they didn't lock when you hadn't got them tight enough, or be tight, but upside down, and have to be spun round).
It's the one for the seatpost that might prove a pain. For instance, my Giant XTC is a 30.8 seat tube (I think it's about 36mm external diameter) and the seat post clamp won't close because it's too big - making it redundant.
I tried changing the clamp itself to another one, but it's the curve of the lever that's the problem, too tight a curve for the bigger tube diameter.
So if you've got a need for this part of the package, try to make sure it'll fit before buying it!"

Pros: Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Rugged
"These remove the faff of having to weave an extender cable around my wheels and seat, and I expect they would be much harder to defeat than the cable. The plastic end cap is unscrewable by hand when the skewers are tightened properly. I think it would at least take a beefy tool to do that, whilst a light cable can be cut fairly easily. They are also lighter than the decent skewers which came with my bike and peform equally well. The seatpost lever needs a QR seat clamp of course, and there may be some compatibility issues to think about there. I have a Raleigh Outland one, and the lever fits as if made for it. I think this set is very good value for money when you compare it with alternatives."

Zefal Locknroll
Pros: Attractive, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons: Unadjustable, didnt fit trek saddle clamp
"Bought the 3 piece set, and in free air the locks work just as expected (an internal tiny weight/pin? drops to prevent opening in certain attitudes). However, the saddle pin would not close completely on my bike (Trek6000) due to the curvature of the cam clasp mismatch with curvature of the saddle clamp. It would not lock. Didn't try the wheel skewers so cant comment on those. Pity as they looked promising. However, the opposing knurled knob is also relatively easy to undo, and I am just not convinced about the concept. Returned to Wiggle, money refunded straightaway so that was nice. Now looking for other locking skewer set.."

they work
Pros: Adjustable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Rugged, they work, cheaper than a new wheelset
Cons: Expensive
"I have just spent a couple of hundred quid replacing a pair of wheels and discs after having them stolen a couple of weeks ago, so these seemed like a sensible choice. I can absolutely confirm they work as I just returned to my bike to be told that someone had just seen off a couple of youths trying to make off with the new wheels. I'd love to have seen their frustration. While these are quite pricey, they're obviously cheaper than replacing your wheelset and far, far more convenient than non-QR skewers or carrying around an additional chain/cable (both of which a determined, potential thief could get through quite easily anyway)."

Simple solution to lock wheels - no keys needed
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Durable, Great Value, Lightweight
"First set had one skewer faulty - Wiggle quickly replaced this and refunded posatge.
These were easy to fit - a really neat idea that locks the wheels when the lock is in the correct position and bike needs to be flipped to get them to unlock - which if it's properly locked shouldn't normally be an issue. Cannot budge them once they are in the locked position. Cheap and effective security solution - recommended.
Saddle skewer didn't fit existing clamp - but this wasn't a priority for me."
