Shot Bloks Box Rocks!
Pros: High Quality, Versatile
"(Mountain Berry flavour)
I'd never bothered even taking water on runs up to 15 miles before. On longer runs (15+) I used to just take a small bottle of sports drink. I then decided to take cereal bars or similar, but whilst they filled a hole, I didn't notice any energy improvements. I then tried gels and found them a bit rough on my stomach and didn't enjoy the sensation at all. Then I saw these. It's hard to say at first whether other factors have been the reason for more enjoyable long runs (you always have good and bad runs) or whether the shot bloks have made the difference, but after several runs using them, I think I can honestly now say that they do work. They don't give you a huge rush of energy (which probably wouldn't be good anyway), but I seem to be able to keep on running more comfortably for longer - like a <insert well-known make of battery here> bunny.
They are very chewy and it takes a bit of getting used to (especially if you've been knocking back gels before), but if you take your time and remember to breathe while your chomping (and wash them down with some fluid at the same time), they go down pretty well. Highly reccommended."

Forget about gels - try shot bloks
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, easy to eat, good flavours
"These new Shot bloks are fantastic and I can't recommend them highly enough! I've just completed a 55 mile run across biggest hills and peat bogs of the Peak District (the Dark Peak 15 Trigs) and successfully used them as my primary food source for 10 hours of hard running. They even helped me the break the record for the route which had stood for 22 years!
They have so many advantages over gels and other alternatives. They weigh slightly less than a gel but pack in 48 grams of carbs compared to 22g. They contain electrolytes so keep your sodium levels up (having sufferred from hyponatremia I know how important this is). The packaging is also really neat and completely mess-free - it's dead easy to eat them one portion at a time without having to stop running. They have a nice soft texture and are pretty easy to get down on the run. The caffeine in the Orange flavour also gives a real kick.
Having spent the last 10 years trying different alternatives to keep me going on all day mountain runs I really can say that these are a breakthrough product! They might not be cheap but I think they are worth every penny."

Reasonable, but not the best
Pros: better than gels
Cons: still too sticky
"Gummy texture not unlike eating jelly/jello cubes BEFORE you add the hot water.
Still sticky enough that you can't leave in your jersey pocket without the wrapper.
Taste is okay, but not the best.
Much prefer Powerbar Energy shots (lemon) which have a nicer taste, are less sticky, and have about the same calories.
Still better than messy gels that cause spikes and crashes."

Very Tasty
"These Shot Bloks give a great energy boost and are delicious.
Apparently three of the six flavours are caffeinated but neither the Wiggle site nor the Clif site tell you which! I bought the Tropical Punch ones and they are caffeinated.

bloks
"don't like taking gels whilst riding as they can be messy and I hate sticky fingers ! However this product is fantastic - you can take small pieces, it stimulates saliva immediately so its easy to swallow. Berry flavour is strong but nice - more like eating sweets - great ;o)"

Awesome product for any event
Pros: Great Value, High Quality, Versatile, tasty
"The shot bloks are fantastic for any event / training session.
Easy to get out of the packet in a hurry.
If you doing a fast flat run to an endurance hill session they pack a punch and very tasty.
I used them in the NZ Ironman on the marathon run and was extremely satisfied."

Can't stand gels - love these
"Over the years I have tried a variety of gels, but they all bounce in my stomach and leave me feeling queasy. Likewise energy drinks don't always agree with me. These Clif Bloks are a brilliant alternative. You can chomp them down with ease or my preferred approach is to slowly suck them as I buzz along the trails."

Best energy product I've used
Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, taste good, easy to take
Cons: wrapper a bit difficult to open
"I used to use gels, but I found the taste and texture of them a bit too much to handle.
These shot bloks are fantastic, once you've opened the packet, they squeeze easily out of it and into your mouth. Opening the packet isn't as easy as I thought it could be, otherwise it would be five stars.
On my long runs, I have definitely noticed a difference after taking these and am sure they have kept me going for longer.
I'd definitely recommend them. I've only tried the Tropical Punch flavour so far, but they taste nice and are easy to digest."

Best energy thingy on market
Pros: great taste, easy to chew on move
"The clif bar peanut butter bars are good but these are outstanding. I got mountain berry flavour. Great taste - not oversweet like gels. Like chewing jelly cubes! Ace"

Tasty
"I liked these. Have used them in 2 marathons as an adjunct to gels. Good thing is that you can take one or two blocks at a time and save the rest for later. No problems at all opening them on a run. Mountain berry flavor is tops!"

Going bloks.
Pros: Attractive, High Quality
"Great tasteing and very easy to eat while racing. Easy on the stomach for the longer races.
A minor negative is each blok is just a bit too big to sit on the roof of my mouth and dissolve slowly. I have to munch them in half and resist eating it all in one go.
Easy to stash in pockets or carry bag as they are sooo soft.

Excellent energy product
Pros: Great Value
"These are great if you have a problem in getting gels down your throat while running. You can just tuck these inside a cheek and they will dissolve in a few minutes. There is no sticky mess to contend with either."

Quality Shot Blocs
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"I first tried these after a friend offered me one while out on a cross country ride. Easy to eat and went down well with a swig of water. Reallly noticable effect if taken every 20-30 mins and the strawberry taste great. Much easier to carry than gels and a lot less messy to take. Only slight downside is you have to buy in bulk from Wiggle but in hindsight it is easier to buy that way. Great service as always, and turned up very quickly."

No-Mess Gel Alternative
Pros: practical, not sickly or too sweet
Cons: Expensive
"Have used this on long rides and found that it works just as well as a gel (approx. one cube per 30-40 minutes). It is noticeably more practical than a gel in that you can keep the open packet in your pocket without leakage. It is also not sickly which a lot of gels out on the market tend to be. The Mountain Berry flavour is also very palatable. The only down-side is that it is quite pricey."

Better than gels
Pros: tasty, effective
"Definitely my new preference over gels and other nutrition for on the move. Much easier to consume while running and riding, ability to consume half a tube (3 blocks) as well, easier to monitor calorie intake for endurance events and a good shape for carrying in jersey pockets and pack pockets."

Saved the day on a sportive
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, energy easily provided, not at all messy, easy to digest steadily throughout a ride
"I usually time trial short distances (up to 25 miles) but at the end of the this season I entered the Computer Weekly Dorking Sportive for a distance of 102 miles (plus 5 climbs, including White Down!!!). Looking for something to supplement the feed stations I tried these. They are excellent. Easily digestible, easy to handle and eat on the move. Just what was needed to keep the energy levels up throughout the ride. Helped me nail a gold award time for the event."
