Shot Bloks Box Rocks!
Pros: High Quality, Versatile
"(Mountain Berry flavour)
I'd never bothered even taking water on runs up to 15 miles before. On longer runs (15+) I used to just take a small bottle of sports drink. I then decided to take cereal bars or similar, but whilst they filled a hole, I didn't notice any energy improvements. I then tried gels and found them a bit rough on my stomach and didn't enjoy the sensation at all. Then I saw these. It's hard to say at first whether other factors have been the reason for more enjoyable long runs (you always have good and bad runs) or whether the shot bloks have made the difference, but after several runs using them, I think I can honestly now say that they do work. They don't give you a huge rush of energy (which probably wouldn't be good anyway), but I seem to be able to keep on running more comfortably for longer - like a <insert well-known make of battery here> bunny.
They are very chewy and it takes a bit of getting used to (especially if you've been knocking back gels before), but if you take your time and remember to breathe while your chomping (and wash them down with some fluid at the same time), they go down pretty well. Highly reccommended."

Forget about gels - try shot bloks
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, easy to eat, good flavours
"These new Shot bloks are fantastic and I can't recommend them highly enough! I've just completed a 55 mile run across biggest hills and peat bogs of the Peak District (the Dark Peak 15 Trigs) and successfully used them as my primary food source for 10 hours of hard running. They even helped me the break the record for the route which had stood for 22 years!
They have so many advantages over gels and other alternatives. They weigh slightly less than a gel but pack in 48 grams of carbs compared to 22g. They contain electrolytes so keep your sodium levels up (having sufferred from hyponatremia I know how important this is). The packaging is also really neat and completely mess-free - it's dead easy to eat them one portion at a time without having to stop running. They have a nice soft texture and are pretty easy to get down on the run. The caffeine in the Orange flavour also gives a real kick.
Having spent the last 10 years trying different alternatives to keep me going on all day mountain runs I really can say that these are a breakthrough product! They might not be cheap but I think they are worth every penny."

Quality Shot Blocs
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"I first tried these after a friend offered me one while out on a cross country ride. Easy to eat and went down well with a swig of water. Reallly noticable effect if taken every 20-30 mins and the strawberry taste great. Much easier to carry than gels and a lot less messy to take. Only slight downside is you have to buy in bulk from Wiggle but in hindsight it is easier to buy that way. Great service as always, and turned up very quickly."

No-Mess Gel Alternative
Pros: practical, not sickly or too sweet
Cons: Expensive
"Have used this on long rides and found that it works just as well as a gel (approx. one cube per 30-40 minutes). It is noticeably more practical than a gel in that you can keep the open packet in your pocket without leakage. It is also not sickly which a lot of gels out on the market tend to be. The Mountain Berry flavour is also very palatable. The only down-side is that it is quite pricey."

Better than gels
Pros: tasty, effective
"Definitely my new preference over gels and other nutrition for on the move. Much easier to consume while running and riding, ability to consume half a tube (3 blocks) as well, easier to monitor calorie intake for endurance events and a good shape for carrying in jersey pockets and pack pockets."

Saved the day on a sportive
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, energy easily provided, not at all messy, easy to digest steadily throughout a ride
"I usually time trial short distances (up to 25 miles) but at the end of the this season I entered the Computer Weekly Dorking Sportive for a distance of 102 miles (plus 5 climbs, including White Down!!!). Looking for something to supplement the feed stations I tried these. They are excellent. Easily digestible, easy to handle and eat on the move. Just what was needed to keep the energy levels up throughout the ride. Helped me nail a gold award time for the event."

Great energy boost
"I use these 20 minutes before a run, and during and after long runs.
I recommend you cut the top off the sachet and place in a plastic bag before taking with you on a run.
The bloks can be squeezed out one by one. They are stickier than jelly beans and bigger, so a little harder to eat on the go, but provide an excellent energy boost.

great for little bursts of energy
Cons: i wish that wiggle would sell a mixed pack
"I tried these for the first time when I took part ina skating marathon. For this type of event, i would normally carry a few energy gels, the problem being that you have to take the whole lot in one go. I found that Cliff bars (contains 6 cubes of jelly) could give me sustained energy just when I needed it. I tried the strawberry ones. They are not too sweet adn taste a bit like strawberry licquorice sweets. You should try to take some water with them if you can, although a few cubes did not seem to be dehydrating as a gel normally is. I still don't think that they can replace gels when you are feeling like a big energy rush quickly, but they will definitely keep you going for much longer than other jelly sweets (I have tried the Power bar beans and I think they are useless). Cliff Bars have been with me on one inline marathon, one endurance inline event and one endurance cycling event and they will be coming with me on a lot more events in the future"

Pros: good taste
Cons: Expensive
"An effective alternative to gels. They aren't as messy and its easier to carry one pack of shot blok than the equivalent number of gels.
My only issue with them is how difficult they are to open while actually cycling - I've found it virtually impossible and always end up with little bits of the plastic wrapper in my mouth as I vainly try to rip it open. ( I've tried opening the pack before starting the ride, but as it was damp the first cube just started to disintigrate and stick to the inside of my pocket. Nice...)
On a 3-4 hour ride I'll probably use one pack but will time taking a cube when I know there's a steep climb ahead or I'm liable to be tiring a little.
They aren't too sweet - I find them easy to digest and all 3 flavours are pleasant enough... ...If you can get the pack open to taste them that is.

Amazing!
Pros: tasty, great energy lift
"I love these!
The perfect pick me up when my legs are feeling drained.
I have 2 with water. (3=1 gel)
and then after about 5 - 10 minutes i notice i can just keep pedalling and pedalling and it doesnt hurt as much anymore.
Very tasty. They taste just like fruity gummy lollies but not too sweet. More like a natural juice version."

Never looked like getting cramp or fading!
Pros: great taste
Cons: expensive on long events
"Tried lots of products believe me, the main aim for me is to try and avoid cramp and find something tasty that is not crammed full of E numbers and rubbish. We did the 10 peaks challenge which was 47 miles in lake district, 5500mts climbing. The weather was hot and none of us got cramp, top tip eat little and often and drink modest amounts of water with each gel cube. Last point was that we also mixed caffene Bloks with normal ones although I prefered taste of normal none caffene ones."

Easier, less messy and more versatile than gels
Pros: High Quality, Versatile, taste great, no mess
Cons: Expensive, very expensive
"Absolutely loving these. Only used gels at the end of a ride when I needed the extra boost because its all or nothing. then had to work out where to put the sticky wrapper until I could find a bin etc.
With these you can take the dose bit by bit, spread out over time so that you dont have the big hit followed by nothing for the next hour.
Also no messy residue.
I never had a problem with taste or swallowing gels, possibly because I never use the caffeine ones but some people hate gels and cant stomach them. If that is you then these gel blocks will be the answer.
Plus they taste great and the kids love them - think they are sweets!"

Clif Bar Shot Blocks
Pros: Versatile, effective
Cons: can be sticky when warm!
"Excellent product, does what it says. Gives an energy boozy when you need it. Copmpact size and easily absorbed. During a ride, I'll chew one when I know a hill's about 5 minutes away and the blocks gets me over it!"

Clif Bloks
Pros: Great Value, Lightweight
"These are much easier to eat on the ride than gels. Each pack contains 6 individual jelly lumps that squeeze out of the pack easily. One blok is equivalent to about 1/4 of a normal gel. No issues with the gut or swallowing them. Plus they taste really great. Oh yeah, they work too!
You definately get a burst of energy after eating one.

Surprisingly tasty
Pros: tasty
Cons: difficult to open
"I tried the mountain berry flavour. I had low expectations but they tasted good aren't sickly sweet like some gels and kept me going. If you are taking them out on the bike (rather than a run) you might want to open the pack before you start or at least give it a bit of a cut to make it easier to open. The box I have has a pretty long shelf life too ~12 months so it should be easy to chew through them before they expire."
