Solid, stylish city bike
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable
"After years of commuting on a road bike decided it was time to change to a flat bar road bike. After lots of looking around decided on the Charge Mixer. Have ridden over 1000km on it I have no regrets. It's a solid bike ideal for the daily slog into work. The disc brakes and the hub gears work great and have needed no maintenance. it is fairly heavy but I appreciate the soild feel and think I'll be riding it for many years to come. On sizing I'm 5'8" and the small frame is a good fit."

Best all-round-racing-city-all-terrain bike...
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile
Cons: a bit heavy (but not as much)
"I was trying to decide for over a year now on what bike to get - it had to fit my needs... a mix of things... an attractive bike with a versatile -non flat- personality.
I use it around the city as well for long rides, and so far it never let me down so far. Even the slick tyres are doing fine in the "not-so-fine" streets of Athens.
The bike is fast and the quality is great - make sure you get the right size though(I'm 1.72.inseam 73 and got the snug fitted SMALL size). The top tube is higher than expected but it has to do with the style of the bike.
You can ride aggressively going through traffic or just cruise and enjoy... riding.
It's also a eyestopper - most of the people ask me for a ride, then as me about the gears and breaks and then ask me for the price. They never like that last part but I think it's a good deal overall...
Oh - ...and it's silent (which for some is good and for purists not good)
One thing: I got the silver version and the decals were black, not white , like in the wiggle photo."

Beautiful bike, odd sizing
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
"The main reason I bought this bike was its looks. A beautiful machine. A very close second is the minimalism and low maintenance. Love the disc brakes, and the hub gear is fantastic.
I find the sizing guide rather strange, if not wrong. I bought an extra small, I'm 5'8", 30" inside leg, frame fits perfectly with the seat post raised only 2".

Excellent bike
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"The Charge Mixer is a great bike. Whilst it is a bit heavy on the back end due to the gears, the look and the speed of the bike is awesome. Whilst it only has 8 gears the spread of them is very good for everyday use. Steep hills are no problem as 1st gear is very light. My only gripe is the jump between 4, 5 and 6 is sometimes a bit jarring.
Brakes are amazing. Brilliant stopping power without throwing you over the handlebars. The look of it is very striking, clean lines and no garish stickers.
Oh and the saddle is very comfortable though it doesn't look it!

Mixer review
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
"Bought this to replace a charge duster ss that was stolen. It's awesome. It's super comfy, really fast. I know a lot of people out there say get a single speed charge plug, but I love my mixer. The aphine hub is ultra slick and quiet, good range of gears an the disc brakes stop it super fast. Also usual fantastically fast and efficient service from wiggle!"

Charge Mixer 2010

Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"One of my favorite attributes of the Charge Mixer is the Alfine internal hub gearing system. The internal hub gearing allows for seamless confident gear changing. It has the look and sound of a single spinner, with no gears crunching or building up of dirt and grime as the gears are concealed.
It’s the subtle features that make this bike even more special, the signage is minimalistic with ‘Charge’ stamped on the headstem and Mixer just above the crank.
After riding for about 10kms and becoming familiar with the geometry and the setup, one word really comes to mind, ‘Quality’. This bike is fitted with quality components; from the slightly narrow OEM Charge flat handle bar with comfortable grips to the Continental Sport contact tyres, which are extremely grippy in the dry but don’t show a lot of give for the wet with the lack of a decent tread pattern.
The saddle becomes a real feature on this understated frame, and because the frame is quite large (a homage to the trends of past) the seat post doesn’t need to be raised as much adding to its ‘cool’ appeal. The saddle is a little deceiving, its actually a lot more comfortable than it looks.
After a few weeks of riding in a mixture of different conditions, I was extremely impressed. The weight of the frame is on the heavy side but hey, it only makes you stronger, and the hydraulic disc brakes will pull up no matter how fast you’re traveling. The rapidfire shift levers proved effortlessly perfect for shifting.
Overall, a trendy bike that won’t disappoint, will definitely raise an eyebrow or two in traffic and perfect for someone who’s after a bike in between a mountain bike and a road bike who wants to ride in style.
I'm extremely happy with this purchase, although a few more colour choices would be cool. Awesome job Charge!"

A bit bumpy but worth every penny!
"I recently bought the 2010 Charge Mixer after seeing it in the sale and reading the reviews.
I'm not too handy when it comes to maintenance so I was looking for something relatively maintenance free and I think this is it! It's fairly basic (which is a plus) but a solid, no-nonesence bike. It's lightweight compared to my last track & trail bike and the 8 gears are slick to change.
I do a 20 mile round trip 3 or 4 times a week on towpaths and cycle paths so the ride is definately bumpy but I've compensated this by buying padded shorts!
Highly recommended.

Charge Mixer
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: Expensive, Limited Color Choices
"Got this for my hilly commute as, with hub gears and disc brakes, you can pull up at a downhill junction without stalling or shredding your v-brakes/wheel rims. If you're used to commuting on a Specialized Sirrus, be warned; this is not light. Also, the bars are stupidly low. I'm 6'2" and bought a Large. After raising the seat to accommodate my gangly legs, I then bought an FSA xc190 17degree stem. The ride is still low and aggressive. You can flip over the Charge +/- 15 degree stem but it looks dumb with the logo upside down and it's not very nice quality anyway.
Fitted SKS P45 mudguards. Absolutely essential kit but you'll need access to a vice and a junior hacksaw; the front left v-stay will not go above, below or around the front brake caliper.
Disappointingly, the Mixer doesn't come with a nice retro owners manual. You'll need to search the International Spider Web for advice on how to remove the rear wheel or adjust the eccentric bottom bracket.
But, after doing what you feel is neccessary to make the Mixer the sensible commuter it should be, it is still stunningly beautiful. Think E-type Jaguar or Supermarine Spitfire.
A Work of Art, and I'm glad I got it.

great bike
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Rugged, Good Fit
"sweet bike, makes even me look cool, well as cool as an old bloke on a cool bike can look.. good bits, love the galvanised frame version, discs excellent, easy to assemble, well packed, Alfine 11 speed would be nice but at the price seems great. Bit heavy though but seems to roll along nicely, no city use yet but will get there and a bit twitchy compared to my old ride steely. Frames are big, Im 6'1" and a large is just small enough.
Tubing is oversize and doesnt need to be though.

The Mixer
Pros: Attractive, Rugged, Versatile
"Only done a few km's on this bike so far but it's already turning heads for all the right reasons. It looks and handles like an urban street monster while having the added advantage of the internal hub gears to ensure that you smoke em on the hills.
It's a little bit heavy on the rear end, but hey, whose gonna complain when it looks that good..?"

Epic fun
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality
"Moved from a specialized allez elite to this! London commuting has never been such fun. Disc breaks allow stopping in the rain! Steel frame eats the London potholes, I have not had this much fun on the way to work. Not the lightest bike - you don't notice the weights when riding."

nice bike
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, High Quality
Cons: heavy
"As others say, fairly heavy but that doesn't bother me. The brakes are really good and the hub gears have plenty of range to get around my hilly city (Bristol). Everything without exception feels like good quality. At the sale price, it really is a fantastic deal.
It feels like quite a short frame (size large) and there isnt much clearance between your toes and the front mudguard (if you fit one) .

Perfect British Commuter
"Bought this as a pure commuter machine - ride 12 miles daily. Was looking for a low maintenance machine and the Mixer is perfect for this. The gear ratios on the integral hub are ideal and can carry myself up a 1 in 5 climb to home but feel fast on flat and downhill sections.
Bar grips could be higher quality, but the rest of the bike is a good spec. Ideal on wet British roads, just a quick wash, degrease and lube and its ready to go again."

Great deal on a Charge Mixer
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Versatile
"Great value for a previous year's model. The Alfine hub gearing is superb - 8 gears giving a substantial and ample range for up and down city riding. I'd be comfortable touring on this too, so good to see eyelets for a backrack. Super hydraulic brakes and decent spec throughout, for example quality Continental tyres. Slight resistance in back wheel spinning due to weight of hub, but not a clincher. Quite a short top tube on the medium which can make you feel slightly cramped with the straight bars, so, at 5'11 I would consider changing the bars to give some more room. All in all a lovely bike which I think and hope will be reliable and should require low maintainance."

I love this bike
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Rugged, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"Super slick ride, great on the road -nicely maneuverable through the city traffic. Easy gear changes. Looks great. Dead easy to replace rear tire. Replaced peddles, as with most new bikes they were a little on the lightweight side, but otherwise a lovely bike! Also delivered in ridiculously fast time -Recommended to everyone!"

Great first bike
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged
"This is my first real bike since I was a kid. I'm using it for an 8 mile commute three times a week and it is simply remarkable. Speed wise, I have nothing to compare it to, but its hard to imagine anything better.
The disk brakes are amazing. When I realised that front brakes only was best in most cases, the stopping distance and control are incredible.
The gears sometimes take a second to change - again not sure how that compares with other bikes, but its good for me to have low maintenance.
I got the SKS mudguards with it- bit of a faff getting them on, but worth it now.
Overall, very happy with my purchase."

Awesome commuter
"Fantastic purchase and great value for money, frame is very well made and bike was assembled by wiggle crew with fine attention to detail, everything about the bike is great except the grips, after 30mins with factory issue grips pain just begins to build and build, bars are pretty wide too, but both these can be fixed in no time."

The perfect commuter?
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Rugged, Versatile
"I had been riding an old racer with 25c tyres to work, partly on gravel and concrete uneven surfaces. Having come close to splattering myself on the sides of cars in the wet, driving myself insane with maintenance and shaking my teeth out on irreguar surfaces, I needed a better answer.
The Mixer is unbelievable value at 750 bucks. Even with another 150 to get it to Aus, still good value. putting together took about an hour, adjustment of the hub is simple, and it just works. The brakes are sensational, and have already paid for themselves pulling me up before I hit the car I should have seen. Seat is surprisingly comfortable, I think I'll leave it on. Still getting used to the flat bars, and I may have to get a longer stem to extend the reach a bit (173 cm and small frame), may also have to strap on some guards for the wet (but not certain I'll do that yet - you get drenched either way, don't you? Very pleasantly surprised with the hub. Yep, the low gears are low, but the flexibility of the 8 is fine. I top out at about 50km/h, but that's plenty fast enough.
Don't buy it if you want something featherlight, it's not. But for a day to day commuter on uneven surfaces with exceptional braking and minimum maintenance (and to be honest, something that's a little different and a bit cool), it's perfect."

When in doubt, Charge...
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I'm a daily commuter doing a 15 mile round trip each day and having tried, and hated a 29er was on the look out for a bike which could conquer anything thrown at it. A friend recommended a Charge Mixer to me and having taken his for a quick spin quickly realised it was the BEST bike I have ever ridden
I'm 5 feet 8 with a 31 inch inside leg and decided on the medium frame. It fits me perfectly but there is still plenty of travel on the seat post should you be taller
I have never owned a bike with an Alfine hub before but to anyone who is commuting in all weathers make sure your bike has one of these masterful pieces of engineering on it. The 2010 Mixer I bought came with a 8 speed hub which is great for what I need it for. The jumps between 4, 5 and 6 take a little bit of getting used to but once you've got on top of the gearing it goes like stink!
So far my Mixer has seen snow, ice, rain, sleet, freezing fog, wind and the occasional bit of sunshine. I clean it every week and lub the chain but thats it. Hastle free, with a capital "H"!!
A Mixer is worth EVERY penny. The frame is a little on the heavy side but when you're riding on frost damaged, bumpy and generally dreadful UK roads the Mixer absorbs the lot and feels stable, strong and planted. The stock Continental tyres are brilliant. I've put set of SPD's on my Mixer and would recommend that too
I've seen black and own the galvenised silver. Both look magnificent
When in doubt, Charge"
