Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
"Bought this last month at the bargain price, and cnnot believe how good it is in terms of value and quality.
I had been dubious about buying a road bike as a mountain biker but this was the closest thing to a mountain bike whilst being a road bike if you know what I mean? Sexy sleek steel frame, black and from a mountain bike company in the uK! What more can you ask for?
Ok how about a full shimano Tiagra groupset! All works perfect, and is very nice to look at too.
It even came with mudguards! I have since removed them until the winter, but soon as the rain and snow falls they will be going back on.
Ignore the nay sayers who say it's abit heavy, they have not ridden one! Never noticed any weight penalty.
I just love the nice smooth ride and no harsh rigid carbon or aluminium in sight :-)
Go buy one... NOW!

Very nice, but a little pricey?
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, fun to ride
Cons: Expensive
"Looks gorgeous and rides like a proper road bike in that you feel you get much more out of it than the energy you put in. It encourages attacking long drags in the big ring and on the level there is always that temptation to click up just one more gear. It feels confident through tight corners and is very capable over pot holed and gritty back lanes (much more so than the carbon fibre race bike it replaces). It also copes OK on unsealed surfaces subject to the limitations of the 23mm tyres.
The Tiagra kit is better than the Ultegra stuff I was using 10 years ago and, after 30 miles in the wet, the tektro pads had bedded in and provided ample stopping power. A nice touch is the discrete wear indicator on the rims.
Niggles? I’m not sure about the metal mudguards. This is the sort of bike that will encourage you to do the sort of ride where you might end up cursing the extra weight they represent. I might replace them with chromplastic. And, as this is supposed to be a “retro” frame why route the cables under the top tube and not provide a pump peg? Where does one put one’s frame fit pump?
Price? A grand for the 2011 model is a lot of money. It seems to be a cycle-to-work price point. If you want to race you will get a better race bike for that money. If you want to ride sportives/audax other bikes are available in a similar price bracket. If Charge dropped the RRP by £150 (which is incidentally the discount Wiggle seems to be offering at the moment) I reckon they would have a winner here."

Best Purchase for me
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: brakes soapy and spongy
"Read lots of reviews of the Charge Juicer, all pretty complementary. I am late 50's, 6' 2", heavier round the middle that I used to be; taking up Road biking after a layoff from Mountain Biking a few years ago. Looked for a good value, reliable bike for road use, occasional commuting, not racing.
Wiggle service fantatstic, questions before buying answered speedily and clearly, bike delivered on time, ready to go. Geometry just right for me, chose the Large. Shimano kit as good as you'd expect, steel frame just terrific, speed as soon as you push down, absorbs the road vibratyion better than my sprung mountain bikes. Good weight. As other reviews the brakes are poor but easily replaced.
Got it at 50% of 2010 list price as well.
Can't recommend it and Wiggle enough!"

Inexpensive road bike
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable
Cons: poor quality brake blocks
"This bike met all my needs - as a means to building up muscle prior to hip replacement. I have not owned a road bike for 40 years. I lived in the Scottish highlands, owned a MTB with XTR components. So the Charger has fullfiled my requirement but I have nothing objective to compare it with. Delivery was very good, I now live in the South of France, it arrived quickly. Building it would have been a lot easier had the instructions been in English, not French ( lived in the UK until I retired) Everything worked out of the two boxes, the only thing that required a mechanic was the alinement of the front brake. Why did I choose this bike - endless time reading reviews, big discount, recognised for the price I could not get a good alu bike nor for the price a composite. So it is a bit heavy, it feels rigid enough, does not flex under power and gives a reasonably comfortable ride. Hip replaced, cannot wait to get back on my Charger!"

Very happy with this!!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality
"I spent a lot of time reading reviews about the Charge Juicer before buying it and was struck by the number of positive comments both owners and professional reviewers had to say about it. They are not wrong either!! I love this bike. It flies along the road effortlessly. The frame and component parts are extremely well made and to be able to buy a decent bike with full Tiagra gearing from front to rear for £549 is nothing short of amazing. The bike has a triple chainset as opposed to the normal twin but that does allow you an excellent spread of gears for hill ascent to rapid hill decent. I have taken the mudguards off mine - purely personal preference. They are very solid and a lot better than mudguards of old but I just prefer the look if the bike without them. I've also added some clipless pedals to replace the resin ones which the bike came with. I can't recommend this bike enough. If your price range is about £500 - £600 then you will not find a better buy anywhere."

Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Good Fit

"I have chosen this bike after a one month bargain hunt on the web. I think it's a really good spec, and the ride is fantastic. The break pads aren't effective enough though."

The Juicer
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Adjustable, Good Fit
"Fantastic looking traditional styled road bike. This is my first road bike in twenty years, The spec was right for me and my usage, I'm not going to be racing or competing so is ideal for me. it is mainly for commuting and looks to be ideally suited to this purpose.
When it arrived the first thing I must mention is how well the bike was packaged, once removed from the box and assembled I was out, everything set up by the wiggle Mechanic perfectly. My first run was 30 miles, after 20 or so an awful rattle/rub had developed. this turned out to be the rear mud guard mid screw - wheel off and luckily i'd taken the complimentary tool with me, 2 mins later back under way!
The triple at the front wont get too much use but wiil be handy on the steeper climbs. The bike rides beautifully and even the saddle worryingly named the "knife" is really comfortable.
On the whole the bike is ideally suited to my size and weight, and it daily 25 mile commute, and I reckon it will last a long time. Quality product, quality price from a quality retailer!

"The quality of the bike construction and the riding experience are brilliant. Having come from mountain bikes to participate in multisport races this bike appears to fly. I know it is not billed as a full on racer but it has definitely made my progress on the road an enjoyable and rewarding experience."

"Just recieved the One today... such a nice piece of work. As I'm new to road I haven't got much experiences with road bikes, but still some. Mostly bikes with aluminium frame and carbon fork.
Before buying this one I struggled long with the question, what to buy.
Tested some Bottecchia, Trek and Focus bikes - they all felt a bit "hard" for my hands, cause the roads here aren't the best....
So I made the final descision and went for the steel....Yes it's a bit heavier but what adifference it makes on the road, if Your hands doesn't get tired so quick. Made 50km test drive today and it was superb...
I would suggest it to anyone, who is not in the pro-level and wants the comfortable ride...
The only bad thing was, that the mechanics have put the rear-brake to the left side - although on the order it was mentioned it should be on the right....Bad Wiggle :)

Wow!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Comfortable, Rugged, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: brake pads, possibly saddle over long periods
"There is something wrong with this bike! It goes pretty much the same speed as my Specialized Roubaix wich is 6 pounds lighter and cost £2000 more. To cut a long store short i bought this as a winter bike in the sale at nearly half RRP. Took it out on some 20 miles routes i use to time myself and it pretty much came home in the same time.
So i will start..... was dubious to be seen with a tripple chainset by riding buddies but the Tiagra groupset performs perfectly and is sharp and snappy in changes. I have hit 35 mph on flat so gearing is good. The Tektro calipers are extremely good. Better that 105 but you will need to change the brake blocks to get them working. The frame makes the bike feel solid and steering is so sharp and precise. Done 45 mph downhill and inspired confidence. Tange prestige tubing has always been a decent frame material. You get lovely feedback from the road and at the same time the comfort of steel. Welds look good as does paint job. I was coming to dislike carbon anyway.
My Spesh Roubaix feels wooden, uninspiring and even bland. This bike just confirms it. I love riding it. It just rolls so well. Only changed brake blocks at present as i am happy with how it all works. I paid £560 for the 2010 model which is the same pretty much as the 2011. It will be easy to make this bike lighter but why bother spending money unless you have to when it rides so much better than it's weight suggests, Go by one and feel the road. I was not expecting this.

Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit, superb winter bike
"I was looking at kinesis, genesis, this type of bike for a bad weather bike, and stumbled across this on wiggle.
I am 6 foot tall and 90 kg, and i went for a large which is perfect (i would say it's like a 57cm)
As with all the other reviews, the brake blocks are shocking, i put some ashima's on and for £12 allround job done. After all £549 FOR THIS BIKE i'm sure £12 to upgrade the brakes is nothing.
Very nice finish to the bike, i put 2 lifeline black alloy bottle holders on £2.50 each bargain, i took the mudguards off which makes it look not so much like an old police bike, but very funky and retro. I ride an orbea orca gold 2011 as my race bike, which in its own rite is a superb bike a real machine, the charge isn't aimed at that though it's very comfy with the steel tubes, and soaks up bumps etc. Couldn't recommend it highly enough, at the end of the day you are getting a £1000 bike for £550 common sense will provail, if your size is in stock and your in the market for a bad weather trainer, then buy 1 you will not be disappointed one bit.

Excellent steel racer
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
"This is a truly magnificent bike, beautifully made with every detail considered. The steel frame at the heart of it all is well made and stylishly understated (as is the whole bike), and being steel it smooths the ride nicely.
Components are all well thought through; the Tiagra groupset works like a dream, the compact drop bars are very comfortable and the Charge saddle is excellent. Proper metal mudguards are really solid and make a change from rattly plastic ones, but they do weigh about 1 lb so you might like to remove them during the summer months - not that weight would really be an issue for you if you've bought this bike.
The small weight difference between this and a carbon/aluminium bike is barely noticeable for most riders but it's worth it for the ride comfort of steel.
I'm not sure I would have bought it at full price but like other reviewers, at £600 it was a bargain too good to miss. I'm 5'10", 170 lb and the medium fits me perfectly."

Want a headturning classic racer? Look no further.
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit
"I am ecstatic with my purchase of this bike, it really is a wonderful machine to ride.
I concede that there are lighter bikes out there, but for someone relatively new to the sport, there is no weight issue for me whatsoever.
I am around the 95kg mark, and as a great man once said "I feel the need, the need for speed" so there is often a fair bit of force going through it, and it has held up brilliantly.
Comparing the steel frame with the aluminium frame of my previous bike, it feels far more well made and rigid. In addition to the comfort of a steel frame, it really does transfer the power well.
I was slightly worried upon looking at the seat in comparison to that on my old bike, but I must say, it is more than comfortable enough. For longer rides I would recommended the padded cycling shorts.
Charge have really excelled themselves with this bike."

What a bike!
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, Rugged, High Quality, Good Fit
"What a fantastic bike! From the very first ride I have enjoyed every mile on this steel steed. I can not recommend this bike highly enough for someone looking for a first road bike or winter trainer.
It feels strong and inspires confidence and the classic geometry means that the tange fork and frame iron out the bumps for a smooth ride.
The Tiagra groupset complements the beautifully made frame well and the wheels are perfectly adequate though an obvious upgrade option.
On reflection, this bike would have been well worth the full price but at 44% off in the sale it represents an unmissable bargain."

Excellent commuter
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: brake pads
"Got this for almost half price in Wiggle's January sale. For less than 600 quid it was a bargain.
Steel frame feels great on bumpy UK roads and mid range kit is fine for a commute. Everything is really nicely finished down to the custom mudguards. It even has some cool retro lugs on the fork.
Its a great looking bike - the paint quality is excellent up close and the colour scheme cool and understated.
The only bad thing so far (after a month or two of commuting) are the brake pads. Pretty shocking cheap things that have little stopping power.
p.s. well done wiggle for getting it out next day and in good working order"

Back to the road
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
"After 15 years on a mountain bike, the last 10 spent predominantly on roads with semi-slick tyres, I decided it was time to get myself a decent road bike... I was looking to spend around £600 - £700, which seemed to be about the minimum for an "entry level" quality bike. Luckily it was January and most shops had their end of year sales on, which meant I could look at £900 - £1000 bike discounted into my range.
My needs were for a bike that could handle daily commutes (10 - 15 miles), weekend rides between 20 and 50 miles and the occasional sportive and light (weekend) touring. So I wanted something fast and comfortable with capacity to carry work stuff (laptop etc.) and, occasionally, panniers.
The first choice was between steel or aluminium. Most reviews seemed to favour steel for my kind of usage and I've not been disappointed. Can I really tell the difference (in terms of flex, bump absorption, etc.), over an aluminium frame. Well, frankly no - but then there are so many other factors which effect the ride quality, not least the tyres: my old mountain bike (a Specialised Stumpjumper) has 1.5" road tyres, pumped up to 60psi, compared with the 23c tyres pumped up to 110psi on the Charge Juicer. And something tells me that that's going to have more effect than the frame. But having said that the steel frame feels great and will hopefully be very durable.
The weight is, of course, a few pounds more than an aluminium frame - but as soon as you're on the road you don't notice this at all.
Next up was the components: the Shimano Tiagra groupset seems well matched to the bike. It's taking me a while to get used to the break mounted shifters - and I still find I occasionally apply the brakes when changing gear! However changing is pretty smooth and precise. And my advice would be to look for Tiagra as a minimum - worth that little extra over Sora, particularly for the Tiagra changers.
Visually, the Charge Juicer Mid 2010 is a great, traditional looking bike - not too flashy but oozing quality and style. Even my kids love it! I confess to having been put off some others bikes by them looking to "flash" - clearly aimed at the young, dedicated road racers, rather than the not so young (but still keen/fit) cyclist.
One thing to watch is the size: with it's flat cross bar, the medium (which should "normally" be fine for me at 5' 7", was too large in both step over and reach, whereas the small is just about perfect. Still perhaps just a fraction too long in the reach.
The Charge Juicer doesn't come with rack mounts but the guys at Charge tell me there's no problem fitting a rack with P-clips, or going for a seat-tube mounted rack. So don't let the absence of brazed-on fittings put you off!
On delivery from Wiggle the screws holding the mudgaurds on were clearly too long and actually rubbing on the tyres which was little disappointing - though easily solved with a hacksaw! And I had to tighten a few screws after the first few miles. But otherwise the bike was well set up.
So, overall, for £600 a very happy customer with (hopefully) a long road ahead of me!"

comfort at last
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit
"Bought this bike hoping to take advantage of the 30day test ride just in case it wasn’t what I wanted.
I wanted to try a steel framed bike to see if it was as comfortable as people say, I have had aluminium bikes ,carbon bikes before and found them just ok, they were light but I would rather be comfortable.
The bike came well boxed, went out on my first 3hr ride. The bike was very comfortable ,no real issues with hands and bum.
I had read previously that the front steel fork absorbs more road shock that a carbon, in my opinion it does , keeping road vibration to a minimum so aiding comfort.
The level of equipment is good with a full tiagra group set, and shimano hoops, for the price I paid. The overall quality is very good with neat welds and a nice glossy paint finish. The only down side is the poor quality brake blocks, which I changed out for Swiss stops. And The mudguards which are adequate but need to be longer to protect the frame and feet. I will be changing these out for some sks.
All in all a good quality steel bike a very, very good price

Great Steel Bike
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I have been looking for a decent steel bike for the last 12 months to use as a winter bike. I had built a couple up on old 531 frames using a collection of bits from my shed but they just didn't excite.. The Juicer just works well as a complete bike. This is my first ever on-line purchase and the bike arrived perfectly set up. Just bolt on handlebars and away you go.
A brief 20mile test ride in the dark left me smiling. I am a big rider 88kg 183cm tall and the stiffness of the frame suits me perfectly. Put your foot down and it goes off like a rocket. This bike suits a powerful rider and the extra weight over lighter bikes is no great penalty. The Tiagra drivetrain works really smoothly and the granny ring is useful for more relaxed riding/training in the winter.
I use this bike for everything at the moment and can see myself riding it all year round. the full MRRP of this bike is a little steep but it is a bargain at £650.
The frame is very well made and has that lovely ping and spring that only steel can give.
