You've got to have the best!
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"What a relief to be able to see "proper" maps (ie 1:50k Ordnance Survey) on our GPS handheld. Having tried the cheaper "topological" option, all I can say is "bite the bullet" and go for the best - you are wasting money on the other versions. The other versions do what they say on the tin - it's true - but there is lots of missing detail compared with O/S - eg proper paths and tracks not shown- so it's frustrating, when trying to orientate oneself. Using the O/S version on the other hand, means you can instantly see where you are and locate yourself directly with your paper map. Just don't forget your spare batteries...they are such a pleasure to look at, you can overdo it!"

Mapping for GPS
Pros: Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, all tracks on os maps included, familiar appearance
"The mapping is basically the Ordanance Survey 1:50k Landranger maps so the quality is excellent and the appearance is totally familiar.. What GPS unit it is to be installed in may govern specific features such as the number of waypoints that you can have and route tracking. I believe that these maps are only compatible with some Garmin GPS units so it is essential to check that your GPS model is suitable before purchase.
With my own GPS (Oregon series) you can transfer route logs and waypoints to a PC using Garmin Basecamp which is a free fownloadable programme and therefore keep records of routes for as long as you wish (and therefore exceed the limit on the number of routes that the GPS unit can store itself).
The mapping is routeable so you can plan routes and receive directions etc depending on GPS model. The mapping normally supplied with GPS units is usually fairly basic and does not include anything other than metalled roads. All the tracks that are on a Landranger map are on these maps. so they are ideally suited for off-road use."

Great map, but pricey
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"I use this with the Garmin Oregon 300. OS maps are the bees' knees. You know what you're getting. It can also display car style sat nav mapping, a real bonus.
Only gripe is Garmin's blockage on rival map systems, forcing you to buy their own maps. This is a good map, but the choise to use other systems is sadly prevented."

Brings a GPS to life
Pros: High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"I was given a Garmin Dakota 20 at Christmas to stop me getting lost whenever I went for a bike ride (I exaggerate, but not by much). But it wasn't until I bought the southern & Wales version of this map that I realised its true potential. Sticking this microSD card into the Garmin completely transformed it from a fascinating toy into an indispensable tool.
My Garmin is the first GPS device I've owned and the instructions aren't exactly fool-proof so there's been quite a bit of trial and error involved but it's really worth sticking with, especially when you have a map as detailed and familiar as this OS in it. Now I pre-load routes and just follow the arrows, simple as that.
The detail is everything you'd expect from an OS map. It's the standard 1:50k scale rather than the 1:25k you get with Explorer maps, but that's more than adequate for road rides. I've not used it off-road yet but I reckon it would be fine.
It's not cheap but when you take into account the huge difference it makes to your GPS I reckon it's worth it. I'm doing a LEJOG ride in June and I'm really hoping I'll be able to find the money for the other two maps so I've got full national coverage."

Full OS on the go!
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"Bought the maps to go with a Garmin Dekota. It really takes the performance of the GPS system to another level, allowing you to plan and adjust off road routes while out on the bike. Excellent tool for all off road explorers."

garmin gb discoverer 1:50k scotland
"I was going up to Northumberland on holiday and the Scotish mags cover this area as we. Great to be able to see OS mapping on my 550t Oregan GPS. The maps were clear and usefull. Just what a geocacher needs. I am so happy that i am now going to but the south version asap. Well worth the money."
