"This is my first road bike in >20 years and i have to say, how much things have moved on. After riding my Mtb for the last year, i was fed up of constantly having people on road bikes flying past me with ease, so i thought enough was enough and bought this Focus Variado Expert Triple. WOW what a machine. It is a fantastic bike to look at and even better to ride. I honestly thought i would struggle with it but everything is so smooth. The cornering, the gear changing, the braking.
It took me a while to get used to the gears, but now im up to speed with everything it is a pleasure to ride. I bought this bike because i wanted something that is going to last me for years and i wanted decent components that wouldn't let me down. i would definately recommend this bike, and the price i paid was a bargain.

Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Rugged, Versatile, Good Fit
"I've been riding mountain bikes for the last 10 years for fitness. I've always admired road bikes, so this year I decided to finally buy one. I had a look around at different bikes and found the Focus Variado to have a great spec, at a very good price. With a choice of a double or triple chain-set, I decided on the triple to make it easier going up hills.
On delivery the box has the message “not to sign for delivery if the box is damaged”.
Included with the bike were:
1) A set of flat pedals,
2) complimentary tools (which comprise of a small multi-tool of allen keys and a pedal spanner – all the tools needed to finish off assembling the bike),
3) A box of accessories (reflectors, bell), and finally
4) Instructions for assembling the bike, maintenance routines and various manuals
Assembly required includes attaching the handlebar to the stem, putting on the pedals and any adjustments needed to the saddle.
Once all this is done, you get a clear view of the bike. As always, it looks better than the pictures show. The down tube is a little chuncky, compared to the rest of the frame, and they seem to have tried to write the name FOCUS on the frame as many times as possible.
Compared to the quoted spec, the tyres on the bike are Continental ULTRA sport 25mm, and the saddle is a white colour, not the black in the picture (the white in my opinion looks better).
On close inspection of the handlebars, the top part is oval in shape, which makes holding them in this position very comfortable, but to the expense of making it harder to fit any old-style accessories with circular brackets.
On the road, the bike performs very well. It accelerates very nicely, the gear change is good, the brakes inspire confidence, and overall the bike feels stable, and very solidly made, handling all types of road very well. I found the saddle to be very comfortable (far better than my 5 year old mountain bike saddle). I've also found that the bike trips the pressure sensors in the road for traffic lights, so no waiting around for ages for the lights to change.
Looking at the triple chain-set, the 39 tooth ring is a great versatile option, Ideal for accelerating away from rest, getting up to speed, and climbing short hills. The 30 tooth ring makes climbing a little too easy, but is great for extended climbs and some of the MONSTER hills I will be trying later on in the year.
The tyres have performed well. After riding for around 900 miles, I have had 1 puncture, caused, in my opinion by my own mistake. However this gave me the opportunity to remove the tyre, which is a tighter fit than I'm used to with a mountain bike tyre, so I'd recommend taking a good set of tyre levers with you.
Overall a very impressive bike, set up very well by Wiggle and a joy to ride"

Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"I am new to road bikes and have been an MBR enthusiast for 20 years.
At the age of 41 I thought i would buy myself a quality bike. I have not been dissappointed. It is fairly comfortable and a much better bike for keeping fit compard to my mountain bike. I am starting to enjoy my mid life crisis!!

A revelation!
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"This was my first road bike for more years than I care to remember. Some market research and advice recommended to concentrate on decent wheels and the best group set affordable.
The Shimano 105 equiped Variado soon went to the top of my list and it has not disappointed. It was a swift operation to fit the bars and pedals and a quick check confirmed that everything else was perfectly adjusted. Closer inspection revealed quality components all over, a quality frame and an excellent finish.
Just a few miles for the initial outing to get "back in the saddle" and it felt wonderful. Smooth gear changes, powerful brakes and distance covered in no time.
It's early days but there are signs of many enjoyable miles to come.

Good value for money
Pros: Great Value
Cons: slightly heavy
"The best thing about this bike is value for your money. It is hard to get 105 group set for that kind of money. Overall performance of the bike is very good for that price range. It is slightly heavier than the competition but not too much.
I didn´t like the fact that I could´t fit rear wheel on to the frame. It took some file work to make it fit (not just the paint). For frame that is made in Germany I expected more.
Seat post is very bad. I would recommend that you replace it right away.
Once tuned up, the bicycle feels excellent on the road.

Superb
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight
"Excellent road bike, unfortunately I did encounter a problem on the assembly, the pedals marked left and right, the right hand side went on like a dream the left one did not want to know, a simple job that took an age, also slight problem with the left hand gear lever it struggled to get top gear.
Apart from that a great bike, great value and high quality, now that its adorned with a good many necessary extras it looks fabulous having been used to a old Claude Butler MTB it is termed lightweight by my standards.

Greta bike - now more of a bargain than ever
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I did a lot of research into road bikes before choosing this one and I'm definitely very happy with the decision - I don't know of anything else in this price bracket that comes with the Shimano 105 drivetrain and chain set.
Setup and delivery from Wiggle were excellent - my only issue was that the supplied front and rear reflectors were not a good fit for the frame at all, and took several hours of wrestling with to get fitted. Part of the problem was that the handlebars are oval in cross section, which is extremely comfortable to hold, but not so great for fitting reflectors that were designed with circular cross sections in mind. The same goes for the supplied bell, although I opted to leave that off.
I've done around 100 miles on the bike so far and find it very comfortable and smooth to ride. The setup from Wiggle was great; it rode smoothly straight out of the box and I've had no problems with it since. The only downside worth mentioning is it is a little heavier than some bikes in this price range, but personally I don't really think that makes much difference at this level."

Outstanding Bike
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I took a gamble on this bike, but it payed off for me big time. I had looked around for about four months deciding which make and model to choose.I wanted a mid range quality bike for around £1000.The focus triple fits all my requiments. With carbon fork and shimano 105 all round, the bike is smooth and responive.Out of the box the bike is better looking than on the website, with a big round down tube that looks quality.Overall for the money you can not get a better bike.I got 20% off and a 30 day money back guarantee, bargain in anyones language."

Great quality bike, well set up
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality
Cons: Bulky
"Very good quality bike. Slightly heavy, but doesn't seem to harm performance. The tripple (despite cheating) gives a good range of ratios. Very well set up by Wiggle."

Great buy
Pros: Great Value, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Limited Color Choices, weight
"Was really concerned wether i was buying the right bike for me, after reading some reviews.
But after riding this bike for >100 miles, this bike is great to ride, gears really smooth, and was great value for money (bought during 20% wiggle promotion). Its certainly not the lightest bike i have ridden, but i am really pleased with this bike. The quality is excellent."
