Crud Roadracer Mudguard Set

Traditional mudguard construction dictates a sturdy design, with bolted fixing at the brake bridges, and metal or rigid plastic utilised in the main arc. This principle has remained unchanged for a century or more.

No more wet bum!
Pros: Adjustable, Good Fit, Great Value, Lightweight
"For a couple of years now I've put up with getting wet and dirty when the weather gets ..... wet and dirty. Primarily because I hate the way they look and feel they spoil the lines of a bike.
I've now started doing more on the bike than just commuting and with the recent weather have found arriving at friends houses, shops etc filthy and wet more and more of an annoyance/hinderance.
Decided it was time to stop being silly and get some mudguards on my bike. I swayed between these and SKS Race Blades. As I run 23's and preferred the stealthier look of the Cruds I decided to go for these.
They arrived super fast and I got them on the bike... ... super fast. Fitting them was a doddle and after chopping a couple of bits off (carbon bike so very tight clearances, but no major surgery needed) I've had no rubbing or funny sounds so far and myself, my bike and my luggage are all much cleaner and dryer after wet rides.
If like me you've been putting it off, just do it. You'll thank yourself after you do."

Pros: Adjustable, High Quality, Lightweight
"Fitting is fairly straight forward, but even so I would set aside up to an hour to get them right and wouldn’t attempt to fit them if you are in a hurry. The instructions provided are good, but as every bike is different a few tweaks might be needed. Crud suggest that they will fit 700×23c or 700×25c tyres, although fitting them to the Kiron with the 25c Schwalbe Ultremo DD tyres I have is very tight and I had to remove the small extension piece on the rear guard, but this does not affect how they work in the wet. Once fitted the mudguards look great and far nicer to look at than anything else available.
In use the mudguards are stable and work very well. They offer more coverage and fit better than other add-on mudguard kits but fall short of fully fitted guards, but that is to be expected. They also stay put you you don’t have to keep moving them back in place. They are not quite flawless as any flex in the wheels or frame can lead to the guards rubbing on the tyre. With a bit more tweaking I am sure they will work without rubbing at all. Even so it is only very slight and only under power and this could be just because of my particular frame/wheel/tyre combo. If you were using a 23c tyre I think it would be fine.
The roadracers are a definite improvement on other add-on mudguards and I would certainly recommend them, but buy with caution if you have 25c tyres as depending on your particular combination you may experience a small amount of rubbing against the tyre."

Crud or Mud?
Pros: Adjustable, Good Fit, Great Value
"I have read good things about the Crud guards and I can honestly say they were justified.
Easy to fit and adjust they whave proven to be a plus in the recent bad weather. They do what they are supposed and I have to wonder why I have always been so anti mud guards before, obviously the cool or fool question has been answered.
The only one draw back was that I had to replace the front tyre as the clearance on the set I was using didn't allow the mudguard to fit under the fork. I minor point, espcially as the tyres were due for replacement any way.
I would say they are a must have for any hardy (or not so hardy) winter/wet weather rider."

Best guards by far!
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality
"I got these for my Cayo Pro after being unable to fit Race Blades due to the aero forks. I'd used Race Blades before on my Madone 5.5 and felt tehy did a decent enough job, but there was nothing else available to fit to a race bike at that time.
When I saw these advertised I decided to check them out as I do need guards for commuting. I watched the vids on You Tube and decided these were the ones for me.
They are very well made, (as anyone familiar with Crud products would expect), they look good, (well, as far as guards on a race bike can), and they work. The tolerances on the Cayo Pro are very tight, but after initial fitment, and a quick initial ride, the guards bedded themselves in nicely, and I've not needed to mess with them since.
I'd still rather not have guards, but it's just not practical, especially when commuting through a British winter. So if you need guards but you want them to be a minimalist yet practical as possible, get the Roadracers. I have given 5 out of 5 for nearly everything, but only 4 out of 5 for performance, the only reason is I feel that any guards on a race bike detract from the bike's overall performance, but that said, these are definately the best ones out there. Well done to the guys at Crud.

Perfect Road mudguard
Pros: Attractive, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
"Being a mountain biker new to the road bike scene i wanted a set of mud guards that stopped me getting an impromptue shower every time i went out on a wet road but look good!
Having looked around for a while these minimal offerings from Crud are just the ticket and having fitted them they certainly look good, are feather light and perform fantasically well can't say much more than that.
One top tip is check out the www.crudproducts.com website they have top tips for fitting on very tight frames."

Keep your butt dry in style!

Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, Good Fit, Lightweight, Rugged
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I received my guards on Tuesday, just in time too!
I rode to work, the mudguards were delivered there so I fitted them in my lunchtime. Took an hour in total after I fitted the rear slightly incorrectly and had to remove it again (my fault).
The weather was humid and clammy all day and at 5.30 (my hometime) the heavens opened like I have not seen for a looooongtime!
I waited 20mins and rode home in light rain but with flooded roads, I honestly didn't get half as wet as I would have done, and still had a dry butt! I got home and even did an extra loop because I was loving it!
So I can definitely recommend these guards, I'd never considered putting mudguards on before these because the rest are so darn ugly! It's one of those items that you think 'Why has no one thought of this before!?'.
So, style and function, that's what these are all about... now maybe they'll bring out some in colours!? (just a thought)"

Complicated Setup and Frustrating Design
Cons: Unadjustable, Poor Fit
"The Crudracer is an interesting design let down by fiddly setup and some major design flaws. Despite frequent adjustment I am unable to get the self-centring brushes to not hit the rim.
Initial setup is involved as there are lots of individual pieces. Once assembled, however, the mudguards are neat and offer good wheel coverage.
The major issue is with fit and long-term adjustment. Although the mudguards are designed to self-centre using stick-on brushes, these invariably sit against the rim. I end up readjusting almost every ride and still get annoying noise. Despite trued wheels and careful adjustment, there seems to be little that can be done about this."

Excellent product
"These have saved me in winter. Fit so easily and neatly to my bike, and have kept me dry. Slightly harder to fit with 25 tyres on but still fit. If bits break the company offer a very good replacement parts service too.
I would recommend to anyone!"

Best Accessory
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"From point when you open the carton with Crud Roadracer Mudguard Set you feel work of a brain of inventors these fenders. There are every detail, every label made with maximum strength of intention. No surprise the quality of the mudguards is superb. It's a best accessory what I bought for my road bike. It looks very attractive on a road bike. Usually any fenders seems ugly on road bike, but not Crud.
The Crud company offer high quality service also. If you need any spare parts you should to send post stamps to the company and get required units. I had a possibility to check it. It works!

Crud Roadracer
Pros: Attractive, Adjustable, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
"Was getting rather wet until I fitted the Road Crudcatcher. Easy to fit and almost invisible as they fit so closely to the wheel. When spring came and I took them off I missed a trick - I notice that many other riders leave the bike attachments fitted and just remove the guards themselves. Great idea, will do that next time.
Although Crudcatchers own video twists and bends the guards to show that they are just about unbreakable, I broke the front one when the putting the bike minus front wheen into the car boot losing the 4 inch section at the front and top of the wheel - didn't cause any problem and still not getting wet. Cruds website says that individual parts are available so thats a plus when I fit them again later in the year.

Does the job
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"I've just taken these off the bike for the summer but will be putting them back for the winter. They are easy to fit on my Spesh Roubaix Expert (23c tyres) but are apparently more difficult on other bikes. I did have to cut down the front part of the front guard to stop it rattling, but in practice they kept the rain off me well enough without noticing they were there.
A plus point are the looks which don't interrupt the lines of the bike. Plus the design allows the stays to break away under impact. I did manage to test the latter feature during a spectacular fall on black ice, following which I cycled for a couple of miles with just a single stay on the bike an no issues."

Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: fragile
"I bought the Crud Roadracer Mudguard Set for my winter hack. I was sick of getting covered in mud and getting soaking wet but I didn't want my bike to look like an old mans bike as it would have done with normal mudguards.
They fitted easily in about 20mins and they look great. Whats more I was surprised how effective they are.
The biggest downside to date has been their fragility. I've had a couple of off's in the bad weather and they got broken on both times although the repairs were simple enough without resort to buying spares.
As small as these mudguards are, I tried to fit them to my Focus Cayo for a big ride that looked like we were going to have to do in bad weather. There was nowhere near enough room between the tyre and frame on either end so I had to do without. On reflection, I ride with 25c tyres. It may be that there is enough room with 23c tyres instead- I don't know.
All in all, a good value product."

About time
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Attractive, Lightweight, Good Fit
Cons: Poor Fit
"This is a quality mudguard for a race bike. I have tried lots of other types, but these beat all others on weight / quality / design. They do what they are supposed to do and keep you alot cleaner and not as wet. Only thing is they do not fit my carbon blade front forks very well."

terrific mudguards
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"This is a great product. Easy to fit, super light and great value.
I can't compare them to full length, wide, traditional mudguards because I've never used them, but compared to no mudguards, or a seatpost mounted rear guard, they are sensational and prevent a huge amount of crud from getting on you and your bike.
I think the biggest area of protection is your shoes and legs which stay much drier and cleaner.
I was disappointed with the amount of sand still getting into the chain and sprockets and maybe that would be reduced if the rear guard extended down all the way to the bottom bracket, but I don't know.
The only downside I can think of is that they could do with a little more adjustability where the stays meet the guards. Clearance between tyre and guard under the brake bridge or fork crown is more dependent on the bike, but I have very little clearance in those areas and I get a small amount of tyre/guard contact in those areas on occasion."

Good quality
Pros: Durable, Great Value, Adjustable, Lightweight
Cons: could be longer
"Easy to fit, easy to adjust, lightweight, keep worst of rain/road crud off rider and bike.
But most importantly they do actually break when anything gets trapped in the spokes as I found out last week when desceding at 40mph. After the initial brown trouser moment when I thought the front wheel was going to lock up I realised the stay had snapped and the blade itself had simply twisted around the fork allowing me to coast to a stop. One broken mudguard but one very relieved rider !"

Quality improvement on my home-made guards.
Pros: Adjustable, Lightweight, Good Fit
"These are really pretty good. Very lightweight and fairly unobtrusive. I didn't notice any perceptable increase in wind resistance - even at higher speeds (+40km/h). I've not yet ridden with them in the rain but I believe they will live up to my expectations with regard to keeping water spray, mud, and road grime off me and my bike. They don't get in the way when removing and fitting the wheels to put the bike on a car rack (or fix a flat). Placing the rim brushes during assembly is bit fiddly, but not overly so."

Work in Progress
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight
"I bought some 700x25c tyres in the same purchase as these guards. I fitted the tyres to my 2007 Giant TCRC2, then found I can't fit the guards. The tyres are more important to me than the guards at the moment, so the guards sit in a box in the shed.
The problem on my bike is the clearance under the seat stays is now about 1.5mm, and the only way I'll be able to make these work is to cut off the whole section (on the rear guard) from the brake mount point forward (they go under the rear brake just fine).
Given my tyre travails (see other review...) I may be back on 23s soon and if so will try again.
Otherwise, they appeared to be very well put-together, light with good fittings. They'll sit happily in my shed until my road-bike situation changes (sooner rather than later, hopefully :-)"
