Orca Mens Merino Long Sleeve Base Layer

Orca sources its Merino wool from a high country farm in the South Island of New Zealand – the ideal, sustainable environment for high quality Merino sheep. The Orca Merino Base LS is a light-weight, high grade micron (18.9) Merino, which means it won’t irritate the skin like normal wool. This top ...

High performance fabric
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, high performance in sub-zero
"This layer is all I have been wearing, with a very light weight short sleeve on top during the entire winter. Even down below -20 Celcius it has been more than satisfactory. Forget all about expensive jackets etc because this merino top does it all and wont let you down. This was one of the coldest winters ever in Oslo and it served me well. Outer layer covers in ice from sweat which proves performance."

High quality and performance base layer
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality
"I bought this as a start to my Winter gear, a little late but it's not getting much better...
I was very impressed with the overall appearance of it; though it is the base layer and the thinner of the two products on offer, it looks very good, fits well and has lovely finishing. Also, the merino feels very soft against the skin.
Performance wise, I have been using this a lot with the cold snap hitting. It has always kept me warm, both indoors and outdoors. I have used it playing soccer so far (too icy for running or cycling yet!) and it works well to keep me warm and also to wick away sweat so I'm lovely and comfortable!
The overall quality is high with no loose threads and is well finished. A natural consequence of it being made from 100% merino is that it tends not to smell bad, which is great.
I am now planning on getting the leggings as well as a mid layer and the short sleeve versions for Summer. Very impressed overall."

-9° and out on the bike!
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
""Yes I am a fool!
Complete novice (literally the first ride) who has invested a bundle in a brand new bike, brand new gear and itching to hit the road for my 30km round trip to my new office.
I awoke to -9° but decided to go for it anyhow. The icey blast that whipped round my naked goosefleshed knees should have been an ample warning to turn around and put the bike back inside and take my warm X5 to the office but with wife and kids cheering me on I slid aboard my new Plant X bike and rode out into the silent frozen morning.
40 minutes later (hey, give an old man a break, I am new at this!!) I arrive with a comfortable warm upper body, cold knees and absolutely frozen toes and fingers.
I have to say wore two of these Orca tops to keep the 'chill' at bay with a fetching Sugoi mid layer and a Gore waterproof jacket so the combination was incredible on the coldest ride that I will ever do.
Outstanding performance in the harshest of colds just need the same for my toes and pinkies!!"

"Very impressed with quality of the merino. It feels good against the skin and perfoms well at wicking sweat away from body.
Will buy more in future."

High tec
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive
"I have lots of sporting gear and always buy high-end stuff where possible
This is an excellent product and quite unique.
I've only had the base layer for a month now, but it seems to be reasonably durable

Well Done NZ
Pros: Comfortable, High Quality, Lightweight
"This is a great base layer. I purchased the top only but I will be buying more. (Even though it says on the label that you can wear them for 3 days.)
Why I am writing is to advise that I always have trouble with sizing when purchasing italian stuff. it's always too small so I went for the XXL size in this base layer. Guess what? It's too big. Not to worry, it goes under everything so it's OK.
New Zealand sizes are obviously the same as Australian sizes.
I love the feel of the wool.

Technical kit you can wear to work!
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"Bought this for my husband to go on a cycle trip - he loved it, could wear riding throughout the day but also use it as a smart top in the evenings. Sizes were accurate, and it still looks as good as new despite a few weeks of everyday use."

High quality base layer
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality, Versatile
"This is a warm and cosy base layer, so it should be really good for chilly early morning runs etc. It is also smart enough to wear on its own as a casual top. Very smooth and comfortable - not itchy at all. I've only worn it once and haven't washed it yet so don't know how it will respond to the washing machine. I am about a 41" chest and size M fits perfectly."

Excellent base layer
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile
Cons: Limited Color Choices
"I've been really happy with this base layer. It is surprisingly soft and comfortable to the touch, and performs very well as an insulating layer. It is light weight, and scrunches up to a very small size. Perfect for hiking too.
I'm a big fan of the style too. It's a simple design, and the logo on the shoulder is subtle and classy. I wear it out around the town without a second thought.
I'm really happy with this buy.

fantastic purchase
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight
"great fit, so comfortable, keeps me warm on those cold rides home from work and I can leave work without smelling of stale socks as I used to with my previous excellent but synthetic base layer. Looks so good I also wear as a long sleeve t shirt"

Good basic under-garment
Pros: Comfortable, Good Fit, Lightweight
"Fits pretty well, which is a good start. I am 5' 6" and usually find small sizes too tight and medium too long. I chose the medium and found that it is fine around the chest and a only little on the long side - maybe an inch or two - but not enough to be a problem.
Wicks well and does a good job keeping the heat in.
The base layer is not at all scratchy, despite being wool, and does not smell after a hard ride - that's so much nicer than the synthetic materials on other base layers I have used.
good buy"

Wool is a Good Thing
Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Good Fit, High Quality, Lightweight
"The shirt is lightweight and very warm considering; the fit is good (I'm a 33" chest; the small fits well). Not scratchy in the least, exactly as I would expect from Merino; and has all the other good qualities typically associated with wool garments."
