Serious Quality Issues
Pros: Attractive, cheap (relatively)
Cons: Poor Quality, Unadjustable, Not Enough Features, Bulky, Low Quality, poor modulation
"I've been battling with a pair of these for 6 months now, and have taken them to a bike shop 7 or 8 times to have the pistons unstuck, system rebled, etc. When they're not stuck on, they often cause resonance throughout the entire frame, make horrible squealing noises, and the brake feel ranges from being able to pull the lever back to the bars to being able to throw yourself off with the touch of a finger - sometimes on one hill, so not very predictable! Replacement from Avid just as bad.
They do have awesome stopping power though - it's just that the brake modulation ranges from very powerful to even more powerful, with not much before or in between. And than occasionally no brakes at all when going down bumpy stuff. All in all, very disappointing."

great budget stoppers
"The elixir 5's were a breeze to fit, they look great in white and compared to the old hope mini's they replaced, their performance is seriously impressive. Even before they bedded in they felt really powerfull with good modulation. Nice work Avid!"

Great stopping power, quality not great
Pros: Attractive, Comfortable
Cons: Low Quality, Poor Quality, Wears Out Easily
"These came fitted to a Revolution Triad 1.0 I bought six weeks ago. Since then I've done about 200 miles, mainly in wet mud.
They stop extremely well (I'm 14 stone). However, in those six weeks I've had 4 problems:
* The rear pads wore down completely (to the metal) on one side. In only 200 miles.
* One of the rear pistons has stuck in (probably causing the pad wear)
* One of the levers 'sticks' a little - LBS suggests that they've had a few problems with the piston in the lever not beng lubed enough
* The rear went through a phase of rubbing on the disc (squeaking); bleeding helped but it came back.
To have so many problems in 6 weeks suggests there's a basic quality issue."
