good buy for off road use
Pros: High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Expensive
"I had read a lot of poor reviews about the garmin gb discoverer maps in the garmin oregon, but I have to say the maps are excellent for off road use and the oregon does a good job of displaying adequate detail. Map refresh rates are much better than I expected from raster mapping. I have yet to find a path that is not on the mapping. You do need to download the latest oregon software from garmin though if you want to get the best out of this excellent product."

Useful kit!
Pros: High Quality
Cons: Expensive
"Whilst expensive for a micro SD card, this product is ideal for the Dakota 20 GPS unit I am using it on. The standard map installed on the unit was terrible for UK mapping so this was an essential purchase. I look forward to using it on my bike and walks."

Garmin GB Discoverer 1:50k
Pros: Adjustable, Attractive, High Quality, Versatile
Cons: Not Enough Features
"Broadly an electronic version of the OS 1:50 mapping - so great for landscape features etc. Really impressive routing facility - it seems to know the road layout, and gives very helpful hints as you approach a junction, showing a white arrow through complex road plans as well as clear written instructions, and bleaps to draw your attention. It's a pity, though, that there is not a further degree of digitization, so that all lettering, for example, is the right way up. A pity too, that countrywide coverage in 1:25k is not yet available. Closer contour lines would be helpful, and you lose definition when you zoom in too close. That said, the automatic zooming at junctions is excellent. Also impressive is the mapping's facility to rethink a route when you deviate from the route initially chosen. I use it in a Garmin Dakota 20, which I would also recommend."
