Awesome
Pros: Durable, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive
"After much indecision took the plunge and bought this GPS., First impression is the excellent quality of every thing in the box.The instructions are minimal, but enough to get you started, a user manual is easily downloaded from the internet. The clamp is easy to fit and the unit simply attaches with half a turn to lock it in place. All the screens are customizable to display whatever info you want. The virtual training partner is great. Very easy to set up the cadence/speed sensor. Then its just press the button and ride! Downloading the saved data is a breeze. Yes,it's expensive, but it is a fantastic bit of kit. You'll wonder how you ever managed without one."

I love my new toy
Pros: easy to use
"I am by no means an early adopter or a gadget geek and even in matters of the heart (my cycling) I tend to be a miser. So this was a sizable purchase for me.
That said, I am thrilled with what the Edge 800 can do and its ease of use. The downside, if you can call it that, is that there is no hiding if you are easing off.
No real complaints."

"Superg. Get one. Getting the most out of it takes a while and some determination but it's worth it.
If you want to create a course on your computer, transfer it to the handlebars and get turn by turn guidance, this does it well.
If you want to upload just about every detail of every ride that you can think of onto the garmin connect server to review your performance, compare your performance with selected previous rides, it's astonishingly good.
There's an excellent online forum that helps with questions. The instructions provided with it are poor.
No complaints at all from me. Love it. It makes me ride more.

Pros:
Cons:

Pros:
Cons:

Super Item
Pros: Great Value, Attractive, High Quality, Lightweight, Good Fit
"Strated to take my training to the next level. Been using a cateye speedo to keep an eye on average speed and time. But now i have the Garmin im amazed. Was worryed about the price but well worth the cash. I keep an eye on my heart rate, cadence and also the calories burned not to forget the speed distance and time. Have set 2 pages up one for genral information the other has the training information on. Used the set your own course up online today that also tells you once you come off course so helps with making a course to the milage to suite you and you follow it turn by turn. Not to forget if you get lost you can navigate back to you town/city. Only draw back if you want it as a sat nav buy the navigator pack other wise you will be doing what i have and buying a SD card."

Great Kit
Pros: Durable, High Quality
Cons: Bulky
"Got this as travel all around the world and great to have the maps but these are expensive if you get lots of different ones. Great product has help me get my training on to a more focused plan. Would also recommend the 500 better for racing although if going to buy garmin pedals hear the 800 might suit better."

Step up from the 705
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive, Poor Fit
"My 705 that I had for 4 years just failed and whilst Garmin replaced it for a small fee i still decided to upgrade.
The sceen is a little harder to read than the 705, not as sharp but it is a lot easier to scroll through the options. I had no issue with the set up having had the 705 but others whom have bought the 800 have found it difficult.
I have the AUS TOPO maps which took a look of stuffing aound to transer from the 705 to the 800- many phone calls to Garmin! It was sorted out and the support staff were really good.
The only thing I dont really like is the attachement to the steerer. Yes it is simple but i think also really easy to disasemble and potentially steal. This extends to include the attachement of the device to the bracket. The one thing that is missing is the ability to adjust the angle of the device via rubber spacers as found on the 705."

The best bike-specific GPS unit on the planet
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Rugged, High Quality, Adjustable
Cons: Expensive, poor instructions
"It was unfortunate, if that's the correct word, that I received my Garmin Edge 800 on the same day as my phone upgrade - a Samsung Galaxy S2. Cosmetically, the brilliant, vibrant, high resolution phone screen was instant eye candy, and comparing the two, the edge's display felt like something from 10 years ago.
However, after using the device for a couple of months now (I always like to review my stuff on Wiggle after I've actually used them for a while) I can safely say that it was a great decision to get one.
It's a very reliable and robust little thing. I had been trying to use various smartphone apps prior to getting this, and phone hardware just isn't up to the job.
If you don't need the mapping options, just get the Edge 500, which can still provide navigation information like course directions etc.
I've used my Edge 800 with Ordnance Survey Discoverer Maps and with freely available Open Streetmap maps (open source). Both are routable and function extremely well. Personally, I prefer the OS discoverer maps as they tend to be more complete and are visually more appealing, but the OSM maps are developing rapidly and provide a great alternative to those wishing to only purchase the Base Unit, or the Performance Bundle.
I've found the cadence and heart rate monitoring to be a fantastic aid to my training. Used properly, they can help you to train efficiently and reduce your so called "junk" miles.
The big criticism that needs stating is the instructions - or lack of adequately detailed instructions. You will inevitably end up trawling the web and various forums to find answers, because Garmin haven't provided good enough supporting info."

Another brilliant gadget
Pros: Attractive, High Quality, Rugged
Cons: Expensive
"Having recently got into road biking, apart from the obvious purchase of the bike one of the items I thought I might need was a cycle computer. I duly purchased a cateye computer which was great and met all of my needs - or so I thought. Then I saw the Garmin Edge. I initially thought about buying the edge 200 but then thought what the heck , and after much research decided on the Edge 800. This bit of kit is incredible. Set up is relatively stress free, although it pays to read the complete instructions to get the most from the unit . Due to the recent weather I haven't used the unit much, but first impressions are that it is awesome. It gives so much information that you probably will never use all of it. My one piece of advice would be to purchase the maps as well - the base map is very poor, and buying the Garmin maps separately are very expensive. I wish I had . Other than that I can heartily recommend this."

My best partner
Pros:

Pros:
Cons:

Pros:

flash gadget
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight
"I was a bit dubious at first, seemed to be too flash to be true, but after a couple of rides I love it now rarely ride without it.
The battery dies a bit too quickly if you use it on the brightest setting.
And you have to initiate the auto start-stop yourself, otherwise it will include traffic lights and other 'stops' as part of your average speed.
Ridiculously easy to use!"

Good purchase
"Having used the Edge 705 for the past three years I decided to replace it with the 800, it is a much better unit with more timer pages, better satellite response and quicker download to computer, also the touch screen makes it easier to use when riding and the screen is easier to read. Base map is useless as was the 705, additional maps are a must, the user manual needs to be improved for the first time user, but otherwise a very good product."

Pros:
Cons:
