"I love Castelli clothing. Yes the sizing is always out. I'm 6" Med frame size, with skinny legs. Sporty but slim & athletic would be the description. I wear a Medium in most clothing, but always buy Large in Castelli tops.
This garment was compared (having purchased 3 or 4 and then returned the ones I wasn't keen on) to many others in a similar price bracket / fit for purpose and came out on top IMO.
I wear it on cooler days, going into the british winter / late autumn, with perhaps a Craft vest underneath, or if a little cooler a jersey.
I compared this 'Jersey' to a 'Jacket' and concluded in the main part I preferred to layer up underneath, than have a bulky jacket (which was much more expensive and less versatile). I am lucky enough to work for myself and choose to ride when the conditions suit, rather than perhaps someone who needs a warm jacket for rides late in the day when it goes off much cooler.
You can fit sleeves underneath, which is advisable as the sleeves aren't windproof which you can notice compared to the main body area.
Functionality of the top is perfect. The arms are a good length (I need reasonably generous arms for a medium size guy). It has a high front cut, but lower back. The rear pockets are fairly generously sized so fit plenty in and the front zipper chest pocket is perfect for a mobile. Especially good if you use a cycle App and wish to hear it talking to you as you knock out yet another mile or push beyond your best average speed.
The high neckline is cosy and not irritating. The back of the neck lies nicely too when riding in a tucked position.
I can't recommend this highly enough for it's versatility in the UK weather...assuming you mostly ride in the dry or have a waterproof jacket to go over the top. It is however slightly water resistant having worn it in a few showers.
With it on offer at present you'd be a fool not to buy. It's the only reason I gave the product a slight marking down, due to it's fairly high RRP."
Pros: Durable, Attractive, Comfortable, High Quality, Versatile, Good Fit
Cons: Expensive

This jersey offers greater warmth provided by the internal checked fleece.

Which base layer to go with this?

Firstly can you wear this with nothing underneath?
And then when it's colder, any base layer recommendations?
I wear it with nothing underneath, but layer up with a craft mesh vest to give an extra layer of warmth and wick away some sweat on cooler rides.

I also wear arm warmers underneath as the sleeves are not wind stopper material.

Does this have any rear pockets?

I can see a zip pocket on the front, but are there any rear pockets too?
It has the typical 3 rear pockets that most jerseys have. No zipper pockets at the rear though.
