" Bought this for my daughter's 27th birthday. Very impressed with the quality and she likes the fit and the magenta not-too-girly colour.
Not cold enough yet to have evaluated its performance during serious winter riding, but it's posh enough and cosy enough to wear as a warm top for autumn walks and rides. "

" Cambridge Cycles recommended these tyres before they built my Enigma Etape back in November 2011. I've since accumulated 1500 miles (including Col d'Izoard in May# - enough to remove all the moulding flashes. I've had a single puncture so far, when I picked up a local blackthorn. Nothing can stop a blackthorn!
Cornering performance in all weather conditions is phenominal - very confidence inspiring. Minimal signs of wear so far.
Have bought a spare set #tyres and tubes) at less than £28 a wheel in the "Wheels 10" offer! "

" In a way it's a shame that the HI Viz properties can't be appreciated when worn as a winter baselayer. Must wait till longer evenings to exploit the stunning dayglo effect..
Sizing seems on the generous side for a baselayer, so I'd recommend going down a size if in doubt, because there's good stretch. Excellent value in the winter sale at £11.50!! "

Michelin Pro3 Race Folding Road Tyre
Michelin Pro3 Race Folding Road Tyre
The Pro³ Race has one of the lowest rolling resistances of any commercial racing tyre.

Is this tyre is suitable for riding on rollers?

Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
NOT recommended on a dyno-type trainer, but might live longer on rollers (bigger rolling radius, larger contact patch, cooler running).

Monitor rear tyre wear on the rollers, looking for rubber specs & dust around the rear rollers. Think you'll end up buying a trainer tyre, which has a different tread compound for cooler running, to avoid shredding a good road tyre.

I'd recommend the 25mm GP 4S, which gives you 18% more cushioning for a bit of creature comfort without compromising response. Fantastic cornering grip in all weather with the Conti's, if you are into that sort of thing.

How narrow can I go / Suitable for tracks

Hi Im new to cycling so would really appreciated some help. I recently got a specialized crosstrail which came with quite grunty - Specialized Borough XC Sport, 60 TPI, wire bead, 700x45c. I intend to do a the Greenway to Paris from London - some unsurfanced tracks but want a slightly more rolling tyre - would this be good?

Do i have to stick to 45 as this is whats on, i would rather go narrow but cant afford new wheels - would these fit and how narrow can i go on the same wheel.

Any help really appreciated - cheers
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
You'd need to stick pretty close to a 45mm section tyre to maintain bead fit into the rim width.

The GP 4S is a great tyre, but I'm not sure it's available in that section. If so, it's a good choice for handling canal towpaths, NOT deep muddy ruts on Bridleways!

Should I purchase the 28mm width option to improve ride comfort?

I have recently purchased Mavic Ksyrium SR wheels but finding the ride hard on the Mavic 25mm tyres.

Will increasing the width of these tyres make any noticeable difference to the ride comfort?

What is the disadvantage of increasing the width? Rolling resistance increased?
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
Going from 25mm section to 28mm section will increase air volume by 25% (625mm2 versus 784mm2). This will give a substantial improvement in cushioning and comfort, but inevitably dull the bike's response quite a bit, which is NOT what Ksyrium wheels are all about!

However, if you're seriously compromised on ride harshness, you first need to check that there's enough clearance under the fork crown and rear brake arch on your frame, to accomodate the extra bulk of the larger section tyre. Bear in mind that 5mm radial clearance around the tyre is a minimum safe clearance, to prevent road-chippings & other debris from stopping you - dead.

 BBB BMP-45 TeleRoad Mini Pump
BBB BMP-45 TeleRoad Mini Pump
A telescopic, lightweight mini pump capable of 115psi. It has a compact design, can be used on either Presta or Schrader valves, and comes with a mounting bracket.

How do you use this pump on Schraeder valves

Am I being daft but I cant use this pump on Schraeder valves although it says it can be used on both.

I dont want to resort to my normal solution, brute force.

Help
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
It looks like there's a screw-on cap to hold the rubber grommet (into which the valve fits) in its place. If so, unscrew the cap to expose the grommet inside. Fiddle it out and turn it over to reveal a larger hole to accomodate the fatter Schrader valve. There's usually a thin loose spacer piece, which has to be refitted to ensure the cap compresses the grommet. Refit the cap tight onto the grommet and go.

Topeak Road Frame-Fit Master Blaster Pump
Topeak Road Frame-Fit Master Blaster Pump
A modern take on the classic frame fit pump for road bikes. A long, machinecut barrel quickly inflates those high pressure road tyres. Pumps to 160psi.

Valve fitment?

Is this just for Presta, or has it got a reversible fitment in the connector to use on MTB schrader valves too?

Cycle-touring with MTB 26" wheels & this would double as a good stick to ward rabid dogs off with :-)
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
The MB pump has a reversible fitment. Just unscrew the grey cap to remove it and invert it. The cinch lever probably won't need to be used on Schrader valves.

It's a sound investment as a rabbid dog deterent. Terriers-on-a-stick are one thing, but Rottweilers maybe not!

How do I select the right size

I need to purchase a pump to fit an old Falcon frame which will fit under the top tube between handlebars and seat. There are 2 hooks to locate the pump which are 46cm apart.
Can you confirm which size I need to purchase,
Thank you

Top 1000 Contributor
Topeak's sizing guide is a little bizarre in that their packaging illustrates the pump mounted as you intend, under the top tube. Yet their frame size chart is based on seat tube length (crank centre to top tube centre, at its intersection with the seat tube).

I have a Master Blaster frame fit pump mounted like yours on my Enigma Etape. According to Topeak's (seat tube) frame sizing, it's for a 54cm to 59cm frame, but on their packaging it's shown fitting under a top tube (nestling between the head tube and seat tube) whose length is stated as between 52cm and 57.5cm. based on these dimensions, the next size down (490cm to 540cm would fit under a top tube length of 46.5cm to 52cm. This might be a bit slack on your pegs (underslung pumps ned to fit very snug because knees and other bits often dislodge them).

The next smallest size would fit a top tube length of between 41cm and 46.5cm. This should give you plenty of compression to prevent it jumping off the pegs when you hit a pothole in the dark.

Sizing

What size would you recommend for a 44 road shoe?
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
I take a 46 size shoe and the XL size fits fine (the label states shoe size 45 to 47), so I suggest that size L would suit a 44 road shoe. There's a fair bit of stretch in the fabric to allow for plus/minus a shoe size.

topeak frame fitting pump

You advise Medium for frame sizes 49-54cm. How do you adjust 49cm pump to to snuggly fit 51cm.
Top 1000 Contributor
Top 1000 Contributor
There is plenty of sprung adjustment in the handle of the pump to take up the "slack" between the stated range. The pump handle can be compressed within the stated range to ensure a snug fit. HOWEVER, Topeak's sizing table is based on two assumptions: Firstly that you have a top tube that's horizontal, and secondly that you will fit the pump alongside the seat tube, between the bb shell and the top tube. If you have a compact frame (where the top tube slopes downward to meet the seat tube), measure the ACTUAL seat tube length, if thats where you want the pump to fit. OR, if you want it to fit it under the top tube, measure the centres between the head tube and seat tube to get the right fit.
