"Good gloves nice fit only problem is breaking, it does not grip bear metal at all, so using your brakes is Harder and tiring on your hands, this is coming from a road bike user may not apply on mountain bikes. Other than very good."

"Fantastic tool if your training or just like collecting data (to show off : D). it does everything you can thing of bar the exception of map navigation. In this area it does an okay job with premade routes or recorded ones (pick edge 800 for that fix), menu is completey custom to however you want it. Link up with garminconnect to complete the deal.
Also note if you have a +Ant connector for iPhone you can record cadence, speed & heart rate to that as well!
Oh and very good for turbos to!"

Does the edge 500 come with preloaded maps, particularly for Australia?

It does not come with maps, that side is on garmin connect or training software. See edge 800 for that.
